FAQs

Here are some of our most Frequently Asked Questions.

Recommendations

How do you choose the stories that you recommend on the Fictionators?

This site started out because we were constantly asked for what stories we were reading. We bring in guest reviewers and other readers to give fresh perspectives and to represent as much of the fandom as we can, we can’t read every story.

We want our readers to know that we do take stories that you think we should be reading into consideration. While we do try to find those stories that are diamonds in the rough, The Fictionators is and will always be about recommending the stories that we personally read and love.

My link is broken. Is it because you hate me/my story?

That is probably not the reason that your link no longer works. We switched our site from blogger to wordpress, causing all of our links to change. If your link is broken, it just needs to be updated.

What should you do if your link is broken? Let us know about it! We’ll fix it. Unless you’re mean.

The link to our recommendation of your story should be something like this (use hyphens instead of spaces):

http://www.fictionators.com/rec/title-by-author/

ex. http://www.fictionators.com/rec/scotch-gin-and-the-new-girl-by-withthevampsofcourse-and-jandco/

Why did you tag my story as being on haitus or slow to update? I’m updating!

We feel that we owe it to our readers to let them know about an incomplete story that is on haitus (whether official or otherwise) or takes more than a couple of months between updates. If you’ve started updating your story again–that’s great! Let us know and we’ll change the status.

What does it mean if a story has been crossed out in the Fictionary?

It means the story has been pulled by the author. We don’t remove the rec in case our readers are still trying to find the story. We’d rather you know that the story existed and it’s been pulled than keep trying to find a story that is no longer available.

Do you remove recs?

Not usually. There are a few, select cases that we will remove the recommendation. Even if the storyline drastically changes, we don’t pull the rec. Readers should be aware that our recommendations are valid at the point that we make them. We can’t control huge shifts in the story, like ULAL.

What’s ULAL?

Trust. If you don’t already know, you don’t want us to tell you.

Reviews

How do you decide what books you are going to review?

We rec what we read, plain and simple. If you’re an author and would like to send us your book for review, check out our lovely Review Policy.

Teaser Monday

What is the deadline to submit my teaser?

Teasers are due at midnight EST on Sunday night. Occasionally, we’ll tweet that you can send your teasers in late. Be sure to follow us on twitter for the latest information (@thefictionators)

Why wasn’t my teaser included?

Teasers must be for chapters that have not been posted yet. If you’ve already posted your chapter, we don’t include it. We use gdocs for you to submit your teasers and sometimes it doesn’t show up on the form for whatever reason.

General Info

Why don’t you credit the banner makers when you post your recs?

Honestly, until we got this question, it never occurred to us to credit the person responsible for the graphics. It’s not because we don’t appreciate the effort–because we totally do. There are lots of unsung heroes as far as stories are concerned, namely betas, editors, and prereaders, and there is no way that we can credit everyone involved. We’ve recommended over 600 stories and going back in time to credit a banner (or anyone else) would take forever. If the banner makers want recognition, we hope that they will mark their work in some way. If the authors that we recommend would like to credit their graphics guru, we invite them to leave a comment on their rec post. :)

How come you don’t always post when you’re supposed to?

More often than not, it’s because Kassiah is fail and is always behind. We’re human. Stuff happens. we hope you like us anyway.
