ninapolitan says: I’m a firm believer that not every one-shot should be made into a full fic. It’s hard (TWSS) to go forward with them but in my opinion it’s even harder to go backwards in time and work your way up to the content in the original story.

This was written for the 80′s music contest and with most contests you write the one-shot hoping that all your bases are covered. Their bases were covered and then some. I remember reviewing originally asking (begging) for it to be continued. Never did I think for a second that they’d tackle the backstory! Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised and thrilled.

A Beautiful Mess is a few months prior to their graduation (London Calling o/s) and honestly it’s seamless in regards to transition. Besides that, it’s really hard to tell that two authors are writing it. It’s a testament to both Risbee and CPW on so many levels that they’re barreling over so many pre-conceived obstacles here. A o/s expansion, backstory and writing with a partner. Brava ladies.

There are only 8 chapters plus the one-shot to read. It’s quick but filling in the best way possible. Honestly, I truly don’t think you’ll regret reading them. I’d suggest reading the one-shot first because frankly, that’s some hot shit right there. But, it’ll also give you a great base for the rest of the story!

Kassiah says: I always love everything I read by coldplaywhore so I wasn’t surprised that I loved the o/s that inspired this fic, London Calling.

Edward and Bella have been best friends for their whole lives. After making plans to spend the summer together before going off to college, Bella gets into a study abroad program that will take her away for two months. She struggles with the decision to go and leave him behind, but ultimately decides that she has to go. At first, Edward seems mad that she is leaving. In reality, he is only upset that he is running out of time to let her know that he wants her.

I really love A Beautiful Mess because it’s not a typical cliché story involving best friends Edward and Bella who secretly pine for each other but don’t want to ruin their friendship by admitting their feelings. While that is the basic premise of this story, I really love that both of them have figured it out and want to do something about it, but just don’t know how.

We sat back against her headboard, playing random games of thumb war as I told her about what I wanted to do. I outlined everything I saw us doing over the summer, leaving out the hot sex and making out I had fantasized about, but I knew there would be a lot more involved than just hanging out. I had no idea how the hell I was going to verbalize my thoughts and feelings for her. Perhaps Hallmark made a card for such an occasion?

I’m sorry I’m emotionally stunted, but I have loved you forever. Wanna be my girl and have lots of sex?

“Yeah that probably isn’t a good idea,” I muttered quietly to myself as Bella looked up from our joined thumbs and stared at me curiously.

“What isn’t a good idea?” she questioned, obviously having heard me.

“Umm… running with scissors?” I said randomly as I shrugged my shoulders and she looked at me with an endearing smile.

Edward decides to woo her, sending her flowers, music, poetry. He doesn’t want to just come out and say he wants her, so instead he shows her. I love the relationship that they have, and really love their banter. The dialogue is so realistic between them, I question CPW’s and Risbee’s ages *giggle* I also really love that the only major obstacles seem to be them telling each other how they feel and what will happen while Bella is gone. Their parents have great relationships and get along with each other and they have other friends. Plus, everyone else is rooting for them (well, besides Jessica).

If you have read London Calling, there is one more chapter (at the time of this post) to catch up to the end of the o/s, then it’s all expansion after that. Though we know what happens when they finally declare themselves, I can’t wait to read it. If you are looking for a romantic, fun story, I highly recommend A Beautiful Mess.
