In this fandom, people are always looking for that rare gem, that story that has all of the elements to draw in the reader. There are so many stories out there, but only a handful can really present itself as a unique and wonderful story.
A River Between is such a story. It is sweet, lovely written, and has so much UST that you can barely stand it.
This story is about a privileged heiress, Bella, who has come upon hard times as her family has lost everything, including her father. The Cullens are her family’s greatest rival and have acquired her treasured books. Bella lives for her books and is greatly distressed over the loss of them. Edward knows this and has always admired Bella from afar. He uses the new found ownership of the books to lure Bella into an arrangement. He offers her a job handling the books, but they both know they have to keep it secret.
As the story unfolds, Bella and Edward begin a relationship over all of the books, he allows her to keep one a week in exchange for her taking time to read to him. Things progress as Bella admits later that she would exchange kisses for books.
“A book for a kiss,would that be a fair deal, Isabella?” He walked slowly towards her.
Their first kiss is amazing and sets the reader up for craving more.
The first brush against Bella’s upper lip sent a jolt down her body. The second, a slow graze across her lower lip, stopped her breathing entirely. By the time he finally pressed both his lips against hers, Bella’s knees had buckled. He caught her with one hand on her back, crushing her body against his. His other hand moved to the back of her neck, deepening the kiss. His mouth moved slowly against hers, insistent and coaxing.
Edward capitalizes on this information as a later exchange allows for Edward to gain kisses from Bella. A wager is planned as Edward hopes to win a date with Bella.
The story has so much UST with the bets the two have made that it can make you crazy!
Bella watched as he raised his arms slowly on either side of her until his hands clutched a shelf the height of her chin. She was completely enveloped in his heat, the sound of his breathing, his smell.
The tension in his body made the veins on his forearms bulge. She wondered what it would feel like to trace her fingers along them.
The long, elegant fingers that had tormented her over the last two evenings gripped the shelf tightly for what seemed like an eternity. His right hand was digging into the wood so hard, she thought he might claw a chunk out.
The author writes this with a unique tone. She has created an adorable Bella and a very sexy and sweet Edward. He will do anything in hopes of winning her attention. I adore how committed Edward is in wooing Bella. Another super plus about this story is that the author is not dragging things out. This is a beautifully told story, read it, you can’t go wrong.

When WildRedPoppies contacted me for some feedback on her story, I was hopeful as always, but knew the chances were great that I would be disappointed. Not only was I not disappointed, I was amazed at this well written and carefully constructed story. She has a real facility with building UST without it becoming gratuitous. I really, really like this story and am thrilled that she has received this rec.
