Official Description:
Professional animator Edward worships cartoon exec Bella from afar by day and draws her in his comic book late at night. When this Daffy Duck-loving geek comes face to face with his dream girl, will his fantasy world come to life?
Ah, Geekwards. Some can’t get enough of them and others can’t get far enough away from them. Whichever group you belong to, this Edward will give you a fresh perspective. Toonward may be reserved, but he certainly isn’t shy and he definitely isn’t a doormat.
When we first meet Edward Cullen, we discover that he’s in love. Only problem being that the girl of his dreams doesn’t know he exists. Until, that is, she walks in the door and he’s standing there wearing a funny shirt with a pocket protector. They end up talking about male-to-male connections and teeth (of course!). It’s obvious to everyone and their auntie that Bella is flirting with Edward and he more than holds his own.
She looks up at me and studies me for a moment. “So what’s with the bowtie? Is this a fashion statement?”
I can feel my face get red as I reach up and touch the bowtie that is sewn into my polo shirt. “No, this is the uniform. Can you believe it? And just in case the employees don’t look geeky enough, this outfit seals the deal. We can’t even wear jeans, high-waisted corduroy pants or no iron twill slacks only. When my friend’s dad, the owner, is here, he makes us tuck in our shirts.”
“Oh, that’s priceless!” she smirks. “It reminds me of those crazy outfits the girls used to wear at Hot Dog on a Stick.”
“You don’t really think I’d wear a pocket protector of my own volition do you?”
“I wasn’t sure. It’s actually kind of sexy in a weird way. I bet you pick up some interesting hotties in that get-up. I bet there’s one waiting for you in the back room.”
My cock comes to life as I think of Bella in the back room.
“Yeah, we better hurry this up so she doesn’t get jealous,” I reply with a smile, pleased that I’m bantering. That book I read on how to talk to women seems to be paying off.
“What’s she wearing…your hottie in the backroom?” Bella is very provocative.
“Not much.”
She laughs. God, I love her laugh.
“Is she tied up?”
Ahem… have I mentioned that this is part of their first conversation?
Edward is an animator at Animation Nation and works on a show called Bernie and the Beaver Patrol (yes, beaver patrol). He also self-publishes a comic book in which he casts his love as the superhero, B-Girl. That pretty much sums up how he views Bella. She is perfect and perfectly beautiful in his eyes. There are complications in the form of a gym-loving CEO boyfriend and an unfortunate misunderstanding about Alice (Allie). None of this can stop the UST and the growing intimacy between Bella and Edward. Kissing lessons, anyone?
One of the many things I love about this story is how abstract way peels back the layers, revealing the true nature of our protagonists. We gradually see the vulnerability that lies beneath Bella’s confident exterior and the self-assurance that lies beneath Edward’s. Toonward has his insecurities but he isn’t pathologically passive. Fate handed him the perfect opportunity to be a part of Bella’s life and he grasped it with both hands. He starts with a Plan, which involves coffee. I may never look at a Venti Starbucks cups the same way again.
Folders retrieved, she straightens then lifts up the coffee to take a sip. As she squeezes the cup some foam oozes out onto the lid. In slow motion I watch her tongue slide out between her rosebud lips and lick the foam off the lid with a flourish.
“Mmmm,” she sighs.
Oh, her pink, wet, perfect tongue! Between the foam lick and seeing her breasts, I am undone. My blood starts pooling where I don’t want it to, and of course, the beast comes to life.
I casually try to hold my coffee cup low like a paper shield covering what’s happening in my jeans. Thank God my coffee’s a Venti.
The story is entirely EPOV and abstract way does an amazing job constructing his mental landscape. You’ll find yourself cheering for him from the get go. I like how she casts the stock canon characters too; they add a unique flavour to the story. Rose, for example, is tatted up with domme tendencies. And Carlisle? Well, if you loved Carlisle in Magnolia822′s Strange Brew, you’ll love this one.
As with her first story, Work of Art, abstract way provides insights into the world of animation that are fascinating in themselves. After all, animation has been part of our lives since we were babes. But, at it’s heart, this is a story about two people finding each other and finding love while walking down a fairly unconventional path. Wait, that sounds oddly familiar.
It’s the unexpected ways in which their relationship develops that sets this apart. Give Toonward a go and see if you can get caught up in his charm too!

I absolutely love this story and just adore Toonward for all of the reasons illustrated above.
Abby really does do a fantastic job of fleshing out a good, believable, endearingly awkward, extremely lovable geekward.
I flove Toonward!! He’s witty, self-deprecating and has a big…Starbucks cup.
