Official Description: When Bella and Edward meet the first day of High School, he is a chubby misfit with no friends in a new town, aside from his popular cousins. He meets Bella Swan, a well-liked, if uncoordinated, local with problems of her own. This is the story of their friendship, their loss, their love and destruction. Can they find their way back to each other? And can they survive the changes they have both gone through since the fateful day they met?

secamimom says: If you are on twitter you have probably noticed a few of us sporting the same avatar at times. This avatar is of Chubward. Chubward is our beloved Edward in the story …Becomes the Swan. This story is all kinds of awesome. Instead of being the really athletic guy with lots of friends in high school, Edward is the quiet kid who is a bit on the chubby side.
When first reading the story, we start off in the present day. Then the authors take us back in time to show how Bella and Edward met and fell in love, and yes, eventually, how they fell apart. The first meeting of these two is basically the complete opposite of a lot of stories in the fandom. Rather than Edward jumping in and saving the day, it is Bella who swoops in to save Edward. After that first meeting, Bella and Edward were pretty much attached at the hip.
Bella, later needs some rescuing of her own and of course, Edward is there to help her. After this encounter, the two of them begin to realize that they are seeing each other as more than friends. From the first time he calls her Mon Coeur, to the tuxedo print t-shirt, to their first kiss by the campfire I dare you not to fall in love with Chubward. Let me warn you, there is definitely some heartfail in this story, majorly. But as the two meet back up in present time, hopefully they are able to work through it. Here is a little bit from one of the most recent chapters of …Becoming the Swan.
“Sleep well, Mon Coeur. Tu es mon amour, tu es ma vie, tu es mon tout.”
I leaned forward to kiss her forehead and stopped as she turned her head and began to mumble, her face scrunching up adorably. “Edward, est-ce que tu es aussi doux que tes yeux?
I recoiled and smiled bringing her hand to my mouth when I realized what she had said. She was dreaming of me, responding unconsciously to me.
This little bit right here gives me hope for a future for these two. That, and promises from the authors that they do believe in HEA. Believe me, I harass them with every update to make sure that is still their policy. So, give ….Becomes the Swan a chance. I am sure that you will not regret it.
MF’er says: I have to admit I was one of the people who was lured in via Twitter. Everyone has been talking about Chubward for weeks now and thank goodness for secamimom who took the time to explain to me and pass along the link!!
When I first read the description, I was giggling because months ago I remember a discussion that involved a few people, most specifically americnxidiot — who said she wanted someone to write the movie Edward as the fat kid, LOL. Well here it is!! And it’s just so unbelievably good. So good in fact that I spent the entire day reading every chapter I could and then was disappointed when I had to delay reading the most recent chapter to actually leave work and go home. If there was a way for me to read while driving, I would have done it.
From the very first chapter, I can honestly say I was hooked and I don’t think there has been another fic, with the exception of Hydraulic Level 5, that has given me such a heartichoke about what could happen next. In fact, I believe the last review I left told the girls they gave me the heart clenchies (yeah, I know – it doesn’t make sense to me either, but that’s what it feels like!!)
I’m unbelievably anxious at this point to find out what’s going to happen next and if these two will make it past what has happened between them, and it’s a testament to their wonderful writing that they have affected me (and I’m sure others) like this with the way they have written the story. Trust me when I say this is a must read, you won’t be disappointed in Chubward at all.
