Sick of whiney, anxious, lip biting and mental-monologue heavy Bella? Bored with Old English, possessive, and too suave to be true Edward?

Give Dahlia J Black’s off the wall, New Year’s Eve festivities seeking couple a try.

While maintaining Bella’s destined for disaster and Edward’s intelligent beyond his apparent years characteristics, this imaginative and quirky writer managed to throw all other predictabilities about our favorite romantic duo out of the window. Bella lacks patience and holds her tongue for no one. There is no such thing as thinking before she speaks, so you don’t have to sit through her constant analysis and will she, won’t she puzzling. And Edward is not about to dive in front of any bullets for this girl who’s so determined to take hold of his nuts and keep them as decoration for her best friend’s trashed rear view mirror.

She’s frustrating in a curious way, sure; challenging, even. But to die for…?

Not so much.

They get stuck with each other when an untimely, and mostly inconvenient, accident causes Bella to force herself into Edwards plan’s for the evening and, being the second guessing and fumbling person he is, he can’t argue with someone so manipulative and quick winded. Bella doesn’t realize what kind of night she’s signed up for until it’s too late to turn back, and finds the unexpected surprises wrapped around Edward’s family to be more intriguing than she might have guessed.

But don’t worry folks. There aren’t any of those sparkling or exploding, sharp toothed monsters here. This all human fic dazzles with music and man-to-man combat.

Discover the answer to the age old Saga question around whether or not two completely different people can fit themselves into each other’s worlds, while you laugh and point at the awkward events of the evening. Furthermore, do so while appreciating how very American our South African author is able to become when she steps into our beloved fantasy world. It’s truly like getting a sneak peek into a CW-esque script (really CW, give her a call!!).

Furthermore, this is one of the most drama-light while suspense filled and comedic non-crack fics you’ll find. But best of all, it doesn’t drag on for decades, centuries, and eons. The chapters are bite sized and delicious, like a mini Reese’s Cup.

I give Bella and Edward’s New Year’s Eve Adventure two of my big toes, thumbs, and six others – from a few of my friends – up. Take my word for it. It’s up for grabs. You can keep it if you don’t agree. I’m that confident.

You know what there’s not enough of in the Twific universe? Comedy. Well all know it’s true. Whenever we find stories that are humorous but still romantic (even though everyone enjoys some crackfic from time to time), we embrace them. Everyone loves laughter and fluff, right? Well this little gem is a fantastic blend of Edward/Bella banter, over the top characters, gigglesnort moments, and at the end, a hot hott hottt lemon! The full title is actually Bella and Edward’s Slightly Strange (but mostly awesome) New Year’s Eve Adventure, and if that alone doesn’t pique you’re interested, even just a little…well, I don’t know what the hell would.

Before I really get started, I just want to say one thing: Jasper is mine.

Now that that’s out of the way, we can discuss the lulz, WTFs, and o.O moments that the delightful DahliaBlack has cooked up for us in this fun little story. Coming in at around 25K within 8 short chapters (and it’s complete – hoorah!), B & E’s NYE Adventure is a quick and fun read. You can get through it all in no time, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll be pouting for more.

So why do I love it so much? Well, like I said, there is great banter. The majority of the story is dialogue driven, and it’s snark after snark and quip after quip. Bella definitely keeps an unsuspecting Edward on his toes, but with a couple of oddball brothers and their crazy girlfriends, Edward is intriguing enough to actually make the outlandish and outspoken Bella take pause. She sort of likes him…but she sort of hates him too.

What you end up with are a wrecked Rabbit (the car, you pervs), lip synching, lucha libre, a chain smoking cougar, tutus, pretend Texans, body paint, Medieval restaurants, ending up at the wrong place at the wrong time, bare butts on a pile of winter coats, endless crazy scenarios, and finally…a New Year’s kiss???

And the cherry on top is that the final chapter is actually a bonus outtake that DahliaBlack did for Smut Monday. Want a taste?

“There’s just this one thing I’ve been wondering all night,” he said, resting his hands on my thighs and trailing them slowly upwards.

“Mmm hmm?”

“What do you have on under this sparkly skirt?”

“Feel for yourself.”

He guided his hands up towards my ass and drew a sharp breath when he realized that my pink leggings were lace-topped and held up by garters. His cool fingers tickled the bare skin of my upper thighs and left goosebumps in their wake as they found the delicate lace of my boyshorts. A maddening tingle had appeared between my legs. All I wanted to do was push myself down on him.

“Holy fuck,” he growled, squeezing my ass.

“Not what you were expecting?” I asked innocently.

“Not even the dirtiest thoughts of my inner teenage boy could’ve come up with this.”

UNF. Even I want a piece of Bella after that! Oh, and an ass squeeze from Edward, pleaseandthankyouverymuch.

Bottom line, Dahlia Black is a fantastic writer who has proven through numerous nominations, awards, and contest honors that her stories are high quality and fun to read. This one in particular is under appreciated, so go check it out, and tell her where you found the story! Happy reading!
