Chancing Fate by JMCullen09

Official Description: After relocating to Forks with her parents to take ownership of the family store, Bella Swan meets an angry Edward Cullen – who happens to work at her parent’s store, but not by choice. Both have secrets and pain. Is their meeting coincidence or fate? OOC

Let me start by saying that anything JMCullen09 writes will be a wonderful read. So, when I saw that she had started writing a new story called Chancing Fate I didn’t hesitate to begin reading it.

Chancing Fate is an amazing story, you find yourself drawn in from the moment you start reading the prologue.

You’ve left wondering what happened to make Edward say “I fucking want you,” … “And I fucking hate that I do. So stop. Stop whatever it is you’re doing.”…

And then the story begins… Bella received a heart transplant. The medical bills incurred from her illness forced her parents into bankruptcy. So, when Renee’s uncle offers them his general store to run, they jump at the opportunity to get back on their feet financially. Moving to Forks from Phoenix, Bella finds herself having to start a new school and making new friends.

From the first moment Bella meets Edward there is a strong connection between them.

Bella finds herself just staring and unable to look away, Edward is thrown by this and snaps at Bella “Quit fucking looking at me,”. Bella doesn’t understand what she has done to deserve such hatred from Edward and soon finds herself totally consumed with thoughts of him.

Edward wishes he could just forget this annoying new girl. Who is she to come into his world and make him feel things he has buried deep down and vowed never to feel again?

And this is the start to their hate/hate relationship.

The more time they spend around each other the deeper their attraction to each other becomes. The sexual tension between them is out of this world. As a reader, you are left breathless waiting for Edward’s next word, action, and emotion.

After nine chapters we have returned to the prologue. The last chapter concluded with these two lines…

Don’t fall asleep, Bella. You have somewhere to be when everyone falls asleep.
My entire body flushed with heat. I was in so much trouble later.

If you appreciate intense UST, then this story is perfect for you. I promise, Chancing Fate will own and consume you.
Enjoy.

Chancing Fate pairs Bella, the new girl at Forks High with a two year old heart transplant she’s not keen on everyone knowing about, with Edward, the Patron-guzzling douche who acts that way because he’s damaged from some kind of emotional trauma. He pisses her off… she pisses him off.

The heart transplant angle is interesting because I worked for a while with a lot of people who have either had heart transplants or pacemakers. Reading about Bella’s scar brings back lots of memories for me, as well as some hilarious stories about boyfriends seeing the scar for the first time.

I’m reminded of something else when Bella and Edward come face to face one night in the Cullen house when she and Alice are having a sleep over, although I can’t quite put my finger on it:

I quickly grabbed a bottle of water and hobbled back toward the stairs, moving up them leisurely to save myself from any further injury. I was just rounding the corner from the top step when I ran smack dab into another body.

I went to scream on instinct, but a hand clamped over my mouth. I scrunched my eyes together, then opened them, blinking rapidly as the face the hand belonged to came into focus. He leaned in so that I could no longer see his face, his warm breath caressing the shell of my ear as he spoke. “Shhh… You wouldn’t want to wake the others and shit, would you?”

Edward stepped back, but was still standing so close I could feel the heat of his body. I stared up at him, feeling my heart thunder in my chest from the adrenaline running through my system. The moment I shook my head, he dropped his hand from my mouth.

This is an alternating point of view fic, and scenes are repeated from both points of view. I have a theory about where this is going and what the thing that drives Bella and Edward apart is going to be… guess we’ll see how that plays out.

This story had me hooked after reading the prologue.

I could feel his warm breath on my mouth, taste him as my tongue dipped out to drag a path across my bottom lip. Being this close to me, this was not something Edward did. “I fucking want you,” he admitted through gritted teeth. “And I fucking hate that I do. So stop. Stop whatever it is you’re doing.”

Just wondering why on Earth Edward is so pissed at Bella for “making” him want her has me dropping everything I am doing when an update rolls in. Bella is the quiet, shy girl in high school and Edward just seems like a pretty annoying dick. But you can tell that both of them have a lot of secrets and that is what keeps me reading this story…that and the fact that I love me an angry, brooding, hot as hell Edward. But then again, who doesn’t?

I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her body tight against mine. I crashed my lips to hers. “Don’t let me,” I pleaded. It was as much for her as it was for myself, because I knew if my tongue entered her mouth, if I tasted her right then, the window for halting this shit was over.

She didn’t fight me, didn’t even try to stop my mouth from claiming hers. I didn’t know if I wanted to thank her, or fucking yell at her for not having more a need for preservation of life.

“Stop me, Bella,” I demanded in a low voice.

God, if you don’t stop me right now, Bella, I won’t be able to stop.

“No,” she whispered back. She was so fucking defiant, and the fact that she defied me made my dick practically weep in satisfaction.

I groaned loudly, pushing my tongue inside her mouth. Fuck, she tasted so good.

I mean, come on, tell me you don’t want to know what happens after this? Believe me, you won’t regret starting this story.

I hadn’t heard of Chancing Fate when secamimom put it up on our list, but when I realized this is the same author that writes The Unaccompanied Soul, I decided to check it out. That, and the fact that I’m a sucker for hs-fics in general :)

Nine chapters in, I like it. I love how realistic Edward’s thoughts are.

My eyes shot up, landing right on Bella’s face. I was instantly enraged. I wanted to break Tyler’s fucking jaw. I didn’t give a shit if it was irrational or not, because she wasn’t my girl, but he still shouldn’t be asking her out. She wasn’t his. She’d never be his.

I watched her, the blush on her cheeks spreading down the visible part of her neck as she stared back at him. Her breathing increased, she bit her lip and flushed deeper. It was like she sensed me staring at her. She fucking knew I was looking, I knew she did, even if she wasn’t staring back at me.

Don’t fucking do it, Bella! Don’t you say yes to him!

I really thought she was going to say no, because I willed her to tell Tyler to fuck off, until Alice opened her goddamn mouth about double dating with her and Jasper. My eyes drifted from Bella to Alice, and I was pretty much incinerating her with my eyes.

“Uh… yeah, that sounds great.”

The moment she said yes, I shoved back in my chair, practically knocking it over as I left that fucking lunchroom. There was no way that sitting there in that chair any longer was a possibility, not after she told Tyler yes. I couldn’t look at him without wanting to cause him serious pain. I wanted to hurt that motherfucker. I wasn’t even sure how I managed to get up and leave at all.

Mac said she has an idea where this is headed, and I guess I need to ask her about it, because I have no clue, lol. Chancing Fate is hot and angsty and has a great plot. Check it out.
