Official Description:
A heart leads Bella back home to Forks… and to the brother of the woman who donated it. M for Lemons/OOC/Language
I am the very first to admit that I love angsty fics. If it makes my heart hurt and I cry like a baby I can’t get enough. Dear Maggie fits those requirements to a “t”. It squeezes the emotions out of you with every update. Jenny writes beautifully and her words are full of so much emotion. It wraps itself around you, this story, and refuses to let go.
In Dear Maggie Bella Swan enlists her father’s help in finding the sibling of her heart transplant donor, Maggie. She moves to Forks with Charlie, planning to spend the summer with him, and hoping to meet Maggie’s brother. While at an appointment with her new doctor Bella is told where she can find a job. It’s a car garage owned by Emmett and when she drops in she comes face to face with one Edward Cullen.
He is, in a word, awful. Condescending and rude. It’s obvious that he’s determined to push Bella as far as he can but who knows why that is. I’ll be honest, I love an asshole Edward. I don’t know what it is about that type of character. Is it just me? Do any of you love when Edward’s a super douche? You get little glimpses of Edward being not completely horrid. That makes you love him, because you know what kind of person he is capable of being.
Edwards own point of view is interesting and full of depth. The little pieces of his past are so heart breaking that you won’t stay mad at for long – even when he’s being nasty. He’s funny and sarcastic and sometimes sweet. But those are things he definitely tries to keep hidden. This Edward is an enigma. A contradiction of epic proportions. He’s tattooed and gruff but he’s going through med school. With his attitude being what it is you wouldn’t think he’d want to care for sick patients. You better believe that his bedside manner is severely lacking. One of my favorite lines is when Bella points that out to him:
“Just a little tip since I’ve spent so much time with them: Being a good surgeon means having good people skills. You’d better study up on that, Edward, because yours suck.”
On occasion Bella does put him in his place and he feels bad about treating her so terribly. Two seconds later, he is back to being rude and hurtful. I’m surprised Bella doesn’t have whiplash. He doesn’t want to care for her, but he can’t seem to help himself. She’s going to burrow her way into his heart; even if he doesn’t want her to. But oh, he so does want her to. His attraction to her is off the charts!
If you’re a fan of the tough talking, rough guy that battles his attraction to the sweet, broken girl and if you like to read fic that makes your heart hurt- you are going to adore Dear Maggie.
Nicekittyrawr’s review is perfect, and I don’t have much to add, except to say that I really love this story. I love that even though Edward’s a total douche–he obviously has reason to be. I love that Bella’s totally determined to get to know him, even though she knows it will devastate her when he finds out what she’s hiding. I love this:
I wanted him to close the few inches between us and feel his lips on mine, but he didn’t.
He didn’t move for what felt like an eternity.
“Slow,” he eventually said. “I can’t… Not unless it’s slow.”
It’s so good. Definitely add this to your list!
