Fickle Hearts is a written collaboration between jadedandboring and killerwardsmuse. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop. I found myself gasping so many times, my husband had to ask me with sincere concern, “What is wrong?” I started to explain to him, “I’m reading this fanfic story ….” and then he immediately cuts me off. *sigh*
There is such a fine line between love and hate. In their summary they quote Shakespeare, “There is no evil angel but love.” Ain’t that the fucking truth!
When you first start reading Fickle Hearts, you wonder how is this an Edward and Bella love story. They each had moved on from one another, married to wonderful people. They had happy lives, happy marriages, happy families. Their lives were set on another path without each other. Now, their paths have crossed again. As soon as they see each other after ten years, they have to remind themselves they’ve moved on. Which clearly shows they haven’t.
I have to say, Bella was one of my favorite characters. I don’t condone her behavior or the decisions she made. She was selfish, she ran from her problems and for some reason I didn’t hate her. Her character was definitely flawed, and let’s face it, aren’t we all. There is no perfect Bella, or perfect Edward in the world.
Edward was an interesting character to me as well. After Bella was introduced to him as Jasper’s wife, he immediately tells Jasper she broke his heart. If that doesn’t tell you he still has feelings for Bella, I don’t know what would. He was clearly driven by his emotions.
Both could not overcome their attraction and passion for each other even after 10 years. It was like their love possessed them. They had wonderful spouses and children, but couldn’t stop being together. The pull was that strong. Alice was amazing. She was selfless and forgiving. Two qualities I wish I had. LOL Edward didn’t deserve her. I think of everyone in this story and she deserved the happy ending.
I loved Jasper as well. He called Bella out on everything. Granted, some of his actions were not good ones either, nothing compare to what Bella did. However, I possibly would have done the same.
Another praise of this story is the Adele song lyrics at the beginning of each chapter. Adele. Oh my heart. Adele. The songs they chose for each chapter fit perfectly. That was brilliant. It was like all of Adele songs were written specifically for this story. Chapter 3, Someone like you was amazing.
This story was well written and just simply brilliant. It was honest and showed the affects an affair can have on everyone. It definitely isn’t for the light hearted. It has the angst that you feel in the pit of your stomach. These characters come to life with their passion and guilt. This story is by far one of my favorites. Fickle Hearts is definitely a must read.
