Official Description:
Edward finds himself back in the little beach town of his childhood when he inherits the local bar from his uncle. The elusive, pretty girl next door has killer legs, a sketchbook and secrets that are slowly eating her alive.
Back at the end of last year, I was trolling LiveJournal for some new fics to read. I stumbled upon some community (the name escapes me now) and gave Firefly in Summer a try. As I read, I was expecting a sweet romance about Edward moving to a beach town where he takes over the bar of a relative that has passed, meets Bella, and they have happy lovey times in the ocean. What I got was a deeply touching story filled will sorrow, heartbreak, and emotions so well-written that I had to go back and read the story again.
We begin with Carlisle informing Edward that a beloved uncle has died and left him the bar where he spent his summers growing up. At first, Carlisle comes off as cold and uncaring. I didn’t like him. But then as the story goes on and we learn about Edward’s mother and the happy summers spent at the beach, a whole new world starts to emerge and Carlisle’s character starts to peel like an onion (OK, so I fucking cried. Shuddup!)
Then when you think all is well, we learn about Bella’s past and why she is so distant and shy. Edward and Bella begin a friendship that is at times sassy and exciting. Hold on… primarycolors pulls the rug out from under you again. Devastating heartfail. (Like, you want to stalk her twitter and curse her out, or send her pictures of ugly things, I don’t know.)
But, have no fear. It’s not over. Deep breaths. Due to a bit of sci-fi-lite that she snuck in on us a couple of chapters ago, a whole new element kicks you on your ass. I missed it the first read through and about shit my pants. I was so happy and excited. Currently, she has posted 14 chapters at Ff.n and edited/beta’d it from its original version I read on LiveJournal. I know what’s coming in chapter 15, and it blew my mind. But that’s as far as it went when it was originally posted. She is continuing it and I, seriously, can not fucking wait to see where it goes. I have a really good feeling that Emmett and Rosalie are going to add whole new rungs on the ladder.
When this review goes public, those already reading this story will know what I’m talking about and run back to chapter 12. Then you’ll do a collective *facepalm*. (And hurry to stalk her twitter with love, or send her pictures of pretty things. Whatever.)
For those not yet reading Firefly in Summer, forgive the lack of quotes that normally accompany these reviews. I’ve given so much away already and just want you all to run and read it and rest easy while you do. (And make sure to have tissues handy in chapter 14 – just sayin’!)
I’m never not complete fail at keeping up with stories… so this is yet another that I’m far too behind on than I’d like!! I started this back when PC posted the first chapter and loved it. Seeing what everyone else has been saying about the story though, I’m kind of scared to go back in. But sweet, swoony Edward’s are my kryptonite… and I think I’m going to have to spend my weekend playing catch-up on this fantastic story.
I’ve tried to come up with what to say to let you lovely readers know why I love this story and why I think you should read it, and every single thing I think of gives too much of this beautiful story away. And that wouldn’t be fair to you. So, I’ll try the best I can.
Like vysed said, Firefly in Summer begins with the death of Edward’s beloved uncle. Instead of selling the bar that was left to him, Edward decides to move “home” and that’s how he meets Bella. I love the way their relationship progresses–though he doesn’t know what happened to her to make her…skittish, for lack of a better word, he knows that it was something. Instead of being an asshole and pushing her, he waits for her. He loves her and wants to be with her and is so patient, right from the beginning. He’s swoonworthy and she wants to be strong–for him.
…And that’s all I can tell you. haha. What happens is just…yeah. What vysed said. Consider my mind blown. I am literally waiting on pins and needles for the next chapter. I think you will be, too.

I read it and I am the one when I read it *face palm*
I checked this story out after I read the rec here. I am still getting over chapter 15 and the nice nugget at the end. I like Kassiah am waiting anxiously for the next chapter. What an amazing story!
This is a really beautiful story. One of my favourite fanfics.
