“Your last moments will be spent staring into the shadows, wondering when I’ll be coming for you. You’re going to think about your death, and even picture it. You’re going to worry about the pain you’ll feel; the thing that you fear the most… and I’ll be listening.” – Edward Cullen, Lions Eat Lambs.

There is just something alluring about Darkward with his red eyes and demented ways. He is intelligent, distinguished, and always a gentleman. Oh, and he’s completely psychotic. He is Hannibal Lecter in a pretty package. Raggdoll of Twilight creates a wonderfully suspenseful story based on The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, in which Edward exemplifies all of the twisted possibilities that being a non-vegetarian vampire imply.

This story finds Bella and her friends camping in the wilderness for the weekend. They unknowingly end up in Edward’s territory and he just loves visitors. When Bella wakes up and finds all of her friends missing, she stumbles onto a large mansion with hopes of calling the police. Instead, she is convinced to stay the night by the charming and attentive Edward Cullen. Edward is then faced with a dilemma:

“It was then that he knew he needed time; time to decide what he would do with this instant craving that consumed his body and diseased his mind. He felt as though his own body had betrayed his purpose but he continued to ask himself, seduction or the hunt?

When he finally makes his decision and reveals his true nature to Miss Swan, he is calculating and cruel:

“Yes, I know. I know everything. Every minuscule thought or idea that has passed through your head from the moment you walked through my door, I have heard. You should be ashamed of yourself, Bella; wanting to sleep with a perfect stranger when you have a man waiting for you at home.”
She shook her head. A flutter rose in her stomach and it turned. She felt sour and uneasy. Tears threatened to break through and further reveal her turmoil. “He’s not my boyfriend.”
“But you want him to be…or did.”

Edward then explains that he has indeed captured her friends but intends to hunt her first. Being the gentleman that he is, he gives her until midnight to try and get away. While Bella tries to make her escape, Edward becomes bored and must amuse himself with his other prisoners. While I certainly don’t want to give anything away, poor Eric’s encounter with Edward will give you chills.
It is evident from the prologue that Bella does in fact escape, but Raggdoll does a masterful job of making you question that fact time and again before the end actually comes. She captures the horror and despair that Bella experiences as she second guesses her every move and tortures herself with what-ifs. She proves that vampires, even pretty sparkling ones, are meant to be feared. Raggdoll of Twilight delivers one of the best stories in horror fic genre.
