Sunfeathers says: As a hardcore E/B fan, I particularly relish stories that feature an Edward and Bella who once were a couple but – for reasons still unclear to the reader – are no longer together. It’s no surprise then, the summary for Love on the Seine caught my eye: European romance? Time spent apart? A (possibly) rekindled flame? A quick read of the prologue and I was totally hooked.
One of the really neat things about LotS (wandb’s second multi-chapter fic) is that it’s a two-fold love story. In one arc, we find ourselves exploring Europe with a younger Edward and Bella – new friends and potential lovers – and in the other arc we’re watching an older Edward and Bella reconnect years later – only to find they’ve each moved on.
Or have they?
Apparently something went wrong somewhere along the way, and with each chapter (a nice balance between past and present) we learn a little more about what happened then and whether or not there’s hope for them now.
The story opens with Bella out on a date with – now hold onto your canon-hoor hats – Jasper, and they’re waiting to meet some of his friends. Well, guess who just happens to be one of these friends? Yep, you’ve got it, Edward – only he’s not alone. Who could be perched at his side?
I watched Edward be attentive with Tanya and felt a surge of jealousy. She was beautiful and had long red hair that flowed wildly over her shoulders. She looked like the type of woman he should be with- stunning just like him.Time for another cocktail, Bella.
Gah, freaking Tanya. As the character most likely to mess with the good ship E/B, she drives me nuts – though I must admit she’s a perfect foil in these stories. But Tanya and Jasper are only part of the problem – there’s also the fact that Edward and Bella let things fizzle out once they returned home. Did they not want a long distance relationship – or was there a misunderstanding that came between them? Well, we must read on to find out.
I’m a sucker for witty inner monologues and wandb does them really well – they’re often as revealing as they are funny. For example, it’s nice to know that despite Edward’s gentlemanly ways, inside he’s going crazy with need for Bella:
As much as I wanted her, I didn’t want her to have any regrets about being with me. I knew it would only be a matter of time with her. She wanted to be with me, that much I could tell. But, she wasn’t the type of girl who just slept with anyone and I respected that.“It’s fine, really. I don’t want our first time together to be something you regret,” I confessed, her eyes shot up to stare at me intensely and her face blushed.
Yes Bella, I fully intend to make you mine.
Sigh.
With declarations like that, I find my hope for a reunion growing with each chapter because it’s clear they are meant to be together. But will they find a way to do just that – to overcome time, distance and third parties? I look forward to seeing if they can.
Kassiah says: I don’t know how I found this story, but I really love it. I don’t know what I can add to Sunfeathers awesome review; she captured exactly how I feel (especially about freaking Tanya lol).
I love wandb‘s writing style. The story switches between Edward’s and Bella’s points of view both in the present and in the past, which gives us a deeper understanding of what could have possibly gone wrong. I love how she details the not only the places that they visit, but the way they experience them for the first time and the emotions they are feeling because of that. Like Sunfeathers (and all of her other readers, I am sure), I find myself anxiously waiting to see what will happen with these two. It’s labeled angst, and that worries me a little bit.
If only I had had so much fun on my trip abroad
jk. This story is sweet and romantic, and I think that you will really like it. Definitely check it out!
