MFEO by cosmoandmarvar

Official Description:

One long drive, two lonely hearts and one little boy. What happens when the words are perfect and the time is right, but the places are all wrong? AH

I am shocked to find myself writing a review for The Fictionators. It is intimidating, to say the least, so I am going to just be myself and keep it simple. After all, it shouldn’t be that hard to tell you why MFEO is one of my favorite fics.

MFEO, or Made for Each Other, is a collaboration between the amazing, Cosmogirl7481, and the equally amazing, Marvar29. I was first introduced to these fuckawesome ladies through their fic, Love In My Box. I can’t get enough of them now. MFEO, a fic inspired by the movie, Sleepless in Seattle, has everything I love. I love me some angsty fic, but sometimes I just need romance, and to laugh so hard I just about pee myself. Just reading Cosmogirl and Marvar’s A/N and End Notes for each chapter makes me snort and giggle.

Simply put, I am hooked on MFEO because the characters are funny, quirky and have heart. This is one of those fics in which the characters are so real and endearing I can’t help but laugh and tear up as I read through each new chapter. Sleepless in Seattle is one of my favorite movies, but Cosmogirl and Marvar have given MFEO the perfect amount of Bella and Edward spin and plot twists to make it fresh and new.

When we meet Bella, she is the PR Director for the Florida Marlins and is living in Miami. Bella’s crazy bestie, Alice, is married to Bella’s uptight psychiatrist brother, Jasper. While driving to meet her hypochondriac boyfriend, Michael, Bella listens to Edward and his son, Jacob, on a call-in radio show. As Jacob and Edward talk about the death of Jacob’s mother, and how it has affected their lives, Bella has an intense reaction. Bella tries to explain her reaction to Alice and Jasper, and Alice talks Bella through it as only Alice can.

Alice stares at me with a strange expression. “Bella, he could be ‘the one.’ I’ve never heard you talk that way about anyone. Definitely not about Mike Newton, professional hypochondriac. Not even when you met that hot baseball player, Big Rod.”

“A Rod, Alice.”

“Whatever. All those yummy baseball players and you don’t even notice.”

“That’s part of my job.”

“Yeah, well, I’d hit that.”

“Hit what?”

“Bella. Seriously.”

“What?”

She gives me the look that probably makes my brother’s balls recede into his groin. I give her my best contrite smile. I don’t have balls, but Alice is scary.

“You are a beautiful, professional woman. You have an excellent job as the PR director of the Marlins. And you are dating ‘Bubble Boy.’”

On the opposite coast, in Seattle, we meet Edward and his nine year old son, Jacob. Edward is a lawyer who is just loving his son and trying to get through life day by day. There is nothing sexier to me than a man who gives his heart and soul to his children, as Edward has done for Jacob. This Daddyward does it for me. Edward has a great support system in his sister, Rose, and her husband, Emmett. Rose is a loving sister and aunt, but she tells it like it is in her special, snarky way.

“I don’t even know how to go about dating,” I admit. “Like, I don’t even know where I would meet someone.”

“Well, don’t ask me,” she says, “I’ve been married for a thousand years. And the only two single women I know are Lauren and Jessica…and you can’t date them because they are whores.”

Emmett is the perfect match for Rose. He is gorgeous, but seems to lack a verbal filter, which I find to be hysterical.

“Can I ask you a personal question?” His request pulls me from my thoughts.

“No,” I say without thinking.

“Seriously, man,” he says. “How long has it been since you got your dick wet?”

“What?” I hiss.

“And I don’t mean wet with some sad bottle of lotion you hide in your nightstand.”

After listening to that fateful radio show, Bella breaks up with her boyfriend. The break-up sets off a chain of events including the writing of a drunk letter, a boob pic, missed opportunities, mistaken identities, chance meetings, fuckhot kisses, and a sprint in a ball gown through the Happiest Place on Earth. I don’t want to say more and spoil the story for you, and since MFEO is a WIP, I’m waiting for more myself. I’ll be eagerly checking my alerts and I recommend you do the same. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

I love cosmo. and marvar. When they team up, together, I can’t help myself. nysue did a great job with her review and honestly, I don’t know why you’re still here, instead of reading MFEO right now, but since you are, I’ll tell you a few of the things I love about this story.

You guys all know that Edward is almost always my favorite thing in fic. And in MFEO, it’s no different–I flove him. What does surprise me is how much I sympathize with him:

I’m sitting here, completely shocked. And while I understand that there is a woman – a “doctor” – talking to me, all I can do is look at my son. He’s looking at me with wide eyes. Like he’s scared of how I will react. So, I do the only thing I can. I begin to talk to this “doctor.” For him.

“I’ll just go to bed,” Jacob says, embarrassed.

“Oh, no you don’t,” I tell him. “If I have to do this, you’re doing this with me, little man.”

“How long has it been since your wife passed away, Edward?”

I wrap my arm around Jacob, as he scoots closer to me on the couch. He lays his head on my shoulder and he has so much hope in his sleepy eyes. Have I really been that bad? I thought we were getting by. I thought we were doing fine.

“Two years,” I tell her.

“Two years is a long time,” she says.

“Really?” I ask. “That’s funny. It doesn’t seem long. It seems like it was just yesterday that I came home from work and she was in the kitchen making brownies with Jacob.”

And that right there makes me wish that he hadn’t lost his wife. I mean–geez. But then I remember that Bella’s listening to this call and it gives me hope :)

I love all of the characters and how supportive of their friends they are. I love Jacob. I don’t know what else to say that won’t give away the story. Yes, you’ve all seen Sleepless in Seattle, but this has more, and it’s not exactly the same. And the last posted chapter (chapter 11)–gah! You just have to read. ♥
