Official Description:
When Edward and Bella throw themselves into a long-distance relationship, they don’t realize that sometimes the mileage is not the biggest obstacle in the path of love. Stephenie Meyer created Edward; I made him say “Bloody hell.” AH, AU.
It’s good to be back for a visit with the lovely Fictionators, and I couldn’t be happier than to tell you why I love Mind the Gap so very, very much. And boy, do I! This fic is my absolute fave right now, and I wait anxiously each Wednesday for an update.
Every so often, I like to go fic diving on FFn. Sometimes, just doing a general search for Twilight stories brings about some laughs, other times I see something new by an author whose work I’ve loved in the past. I’ve always hoped that someday I would find that diamond in the rough, and a little over a month ago, I hit the jackpot. The summary sounded promising, the prologue was intriguing, and the first chapter had me hooked from the start. I was shocked to see that there were less than 100 reviews at the time! So I kept reading, and update after update, I was hanging on every wordLuckyStar815 posted. The fact is, I’m in love, and I want this under read fic to get the attention it deserves because this is the kind of Edward/Bella love story we all adore. There’s the build of friendship, sweetness, uncertainty, and a whole hell of a lot of UST!
Bella and Edward meet completely by chance, but despite the unusual circumstances or the fact that Edward is returning to London in just a few hours (oh yes, this is British Edward, ladies), he’s drawn to her enough that he asks her to spend his last few hours in New York City with him. When he returns home, she’s still on his mind, and so their long distance friendship begins. I love the way their relationship develops; it’s slow paced, yet you can feel the way they grow close despite their circumstances. They each have their own lives, with responsibilities and other people, but that doesn’t keep them from building up to something…more.
I promise. From this moment on, you’re my girl. But only mine. Remember that.
But don’t worry – it’s not all web chats and the occasional international phone call. It’s Edward, though more of an emotional cripple than Bella realizes, who invites her to come visit him, and that is where the true tension begins. When they first met, they’d only know each other for hours. On their brief holiday together, the growth of their friendship gives way to mixed emotions and uncertainty on both their parts. This is unusual and new for both of them, but neither can resist putting forth the effort. Neither can deny that they’d rather be near to the other, no matter how unsure they are how to proceed or where their relationship can realistically go given the big blue ocean that separates them.
Fret not, though, sweet readers. A bigger and better opportunity to be together presents itself, and what strikes me the most about this story is how genuine these characters are. Their feelings go beyond the surface, and through alternating POVs, we get to see each character’s perspective on things, as well as the unspoken observations that they sometimes miss about the other. No matter how much time they’ve spent talking in the past, as that was how they came to know and desire one another, communication seems to be the biggest obstacle.
I stare at Bella at a loss. Then my gaze shifts to the bags in my sister’s hands, and it clicks for me so suddenly that I flinch—they are no less than Galeries Lafayette bags. Give it to Alice, our daddy’s girl, to go shopping at the most bloody expensive shopping center in this town.
Damn.
I freak out, losing my head completely, desperately struggling to come up with something to fix the situation. “Come.” I take Bella’s hand. “I’ll get you what you liked,” I say, not realizing yet how majorly my stupid brain fails me this time.
She yanks her hand away, looking sullen, and it dawns on me I’ve fucked up because I just humiliated her and immensely hurt her dignity. Oh bugger, bugger, bugger!
“I said I didn’t like anything.” She bites her lip. “I thought we were going to have lunch. I’m starving.”
“Sure,” I mumble. “This way.”
Bella quickly turns and begins walking in the direction I’ve pointed her, leaving us behind.
I glare daggers at Alice.
I have complete and utter faith in LuckyStar815 that she’ll bring these two out of this story with their HEA, but I know the bumps in the road haven’t all been smoothed out yet. In the meantime, I’m eating up this sexy, sweet, vulnerable Britward and waiting for the day Bella truly sees herself for the wonderful woman she is – just the way Edward sees her.
This one is a must read, loves. Go now!
When Dulci told me about this story, I couldn’t wait to read it and share it with you. I can’t top all of the reasons that she gave for you to read it, just that I really want you to. I’m not gonna lie- after reading the prologue, I’m a little scared, but like Dulci said, this story is sexy and sweet and is a total must read. It’s so good, I’m almost willing to overlook the appearance of Skanktoria. Almost. Definitely check this one out–I can’t wait to see what ya’ll think about it!
