This story completely owned me and I finished it in 3 days!
Right from the beginning there was a little twist that I wasn’t expecting but it made me sit on the edge of my seat the entire fic wondering how she would get these two to be flexible enough to fix it.
Bella is a strong, independent woman that is ready to have a baby but she doesn’t want the man to go along with it. She enlists her Gay BFF Jasper to help, and he of course agrees.
Edward is a successful single man that absolutely adores his nieces, but doesn’t ever wants kids of his own. His twin Rosalie is together with Alice and who better than Edward to help them have a baby?
Seems simple enough. But a mix up at the lab turns everyones world upside down.
Bella and Rose have worked together in the past and Rose can not stand Bella so imagine the drama this brings to the situation. Luckily, Jasper and Alice’s relationship is wonderful. The chemistry they have together is like none I have seen. They are soul mates, but in a very platnonic way. So while things in their corner seem to be moving along, Edward and Bella are kind of caught in between wondering what the heck they should do? They are drawn to each other, but that just confuses things even more because Bella wants to do this on her own, and Edward feels like he shouldn’t abandon his “responsibility.”
LyricalKris takes her time building Edward and Bellas relationship, but at the same time they give in a little here and there, essentially avoiding the elephant in the room…
[dcs_p]“The way his hands were pressed against her, outside her shirt, he could undoubtedly feel the hardness of her slightly distended belly. It was easy to miss with just eyes, concealed as it was with clothes that hung the right way, but he could undoubtedly feel the difference.[/dcs_p]
[dcs_p]For a long moment, neither of them moved, waiting for the other’s reaction. Then Edward’s hands shifted. He kept his thumbs and the heel of his palms against the swell while his long fingers angled downward. They brushed against the hem of her shirt and again he waited, giving her the chance to stop this, she supposed.[/dcs_p]
[dcs_p]But she didn’t. She couldn’t.[/dcs_p]
[dcs_p]His fingers flexed inward, bringing fabric up with them. He flattened out his hand, the pads of his fingers, and then his palm, shaping themselves to the contours of her belly. Side by side, his large hands completely cupped the bump.[/dcs_p]
[dcs_p]Again, the atmosphere that surrounded them changed. There was something primal about the pull in them now, something ancient. Like they were both marked territory. Her hands, light and soft, came up to rest on his – her arms lining up with his arms. The emotion that flowed inside their skin had no words. She carried him inside her. She was already his. Beneath their hands was a connection that made Edward need to protect her, possess her. It was a hunger that only she could fill – a right as ancient as the world was old.”[/dcs_p]
*Flail* For someone that doesn’t want to be a Dad, he sure does seem to like a pregnant womans body, doesn’t he?! And for someone that wants to do this alone, she sure does seem to feel a connection!
But eventually, something has to give….
This story was so real. I never felt like any part of the story was forced. No fluff for fluff’s sake. I definitely went through a few tissues. And LyricalKris asked questions at the end of each chapter that made me think back to my own pregnancies which really helped me connect even more with Bella and had me feeling nostalgic at the same time.
I loved everything about this story. From beginning to end.
I’m really into baby stories. I don’t know why, maybe it’s DILFward. Maybe it’s hormones. I just do. LyricalKris has written one of the most awesome baby stories ever, with a plot that’s completely unlike anything I’ve ever read before.
There are so many reasons that this story is great. I really love this Bella. Like ECis4Me said, she’s independent. She’s tired of waiting for her life to line up the way society thinks it should before she has a baby. I also love the way the entire situation is handled. The characters aren’t all “squee, we met our soulmates and are so happy” when there’s a mixup at the lab that is going to potentially fuck up everyone’s lives. There are serious repercussions that are felt throughout the entire story.
I think it’s so realistic that there would be family members in this situation that would have the attitude that they have to try to make the best of things. Alice immediately recognizes that everything is not ideal, but she’s not going to let that stand in the way of their happiness. Her partner, Rosalie, isn’t so accepting and has to deal with the way she feels on so many levels. I love that LyricalKris weaves Rosalie’s feelings throughout the story.
The way that Edward deals with his growing feelings for Bella is another thing that I love about Parenthetical Love. Keeping in mind that he agreed to Rosalie and Alice’s request because he never intended to be a father, he recognizes that he has feelings and that complicates things. I love that he doesn’t instantly and magically want a family and a Happily Ever After with a woman he barely knows. Even after he realizes he loves her, he still doesn’t know that that changes his outlook on life. Their relationship evolves, and so does Edward’s character. Even when the shit hits the fan, Edward stays true to character, and I love that.
Ngl, this story has angst. It has drama. It has romance and fucking hot lemons. It has a complicated story–like life usually does. It’s real. And it’s complete, so now is the perfect time to check it out!

Wow. You gotta tell a girl when you write something like this!! So glad bmango pointed me in this direction. You just mad my entire day (week…month) better.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m very proud of this story, and I always try to make my fics as real as possible, so knowing that it came across is a gift.
Thanks again! *blush*
