“Argue, argue, argue. That’s all we’ve done since he’s taken an interest in that pointless human.” ~ Rosalie

That’s how Mortissues opens this fresh, New Moon-era fic. Edward left Bella and someone has to step in and help her cope better than she did in the source material, right?

In this wonderful story, Rosalie Hale takes on the role of guardian over this poor human her brother abandoned. You have never seen Rosalie portrayed quite like this.

Saying that she hates “having a sense of responsibility,” she decides that leaving Bella alone with the dangers she faces and the possibilities of complications is not an option. She and Emmett lie to the family and return to Forks to watch over Bella.

She never wanted to be involved with the pathetic girl who thought she was all goo-goo eyed over Edward. She never meant to give a flying rip about her. Rosalie’s attitude is more golden than her reputed hair as she snarks about everything under Forks’s cloudy skies as she begins this adventure of Bella-babysitting.

In her words:

My idea is simple. I completely agree with Emo Ed when it comes to Bella being allowed to live out a happy human existence, where we differ is in how to go about it. As much as I might have made my opposition known we did involve her in our world and we did expose her to others in it. To abandon her now is criminally negligent, she doesn’t deserve to die at Victoria’s hand just because Ed’s incapable of thinking through the consequences of his actions. I have no intention of becoming involved in her life, because frankly, I’ve had shoes I care about more than her. I reckon on three months tops to establish whether or not Victoria is a danger to her and then she’s on her own, like every other human. And in the meantime she’ll never know we’re there.

What Rose doesn’t plan on is finding herself drawn to be involved with Bella. Keeping in mind that Rosalie wants Bella to remain human – and safe – she encourages the teenager to branch out in her interests, counsels her regarding hearing Edward’s voice when she’s in danger, and so on.

Rosalie pulls no punches.

The genius of this story is in how Mortissues shows the evolution of Rosalie’s change of demeanor. From dissociative and disdainful, she grows fonder of Bella by degrees. At last, protective of the girl she has grown to care for very much, she even comes to negate earlier, “unchanging” standards so that Bella will find the forever she wants.

“It’s the other impulses he has trouble controlling that bother me, Em.”

“He’s never shown any interest in her that way,” he points out.

“I’m not risking it.”

“You know you’re starting to sound like her mother, don’t you?” he says slyly.

Now, you probably want to know who “he” is, right?

Rosalie’s attitude has to undergo a change when Bella attracts not only human admirers but a vampire one as well: Jasper.

Rosalie loves her brother, but doesn’t trust him. With good reason. (Yes, you’ll have to read to fully appreciate how Mortissues set this up for you.) However, circumstances convince her (and her team of trusty chaperons) that barring the way in this romance is not in everyone’s best interest.

Which is an open invite to some teasing smexy times!

‘Want,’ he mouths and I press my lips to the finger still held against them.

He drags that finger down, pulling my lip out and then darts forward to capture it between his own, sucking it gently, and it takes all my will power to stifle the moan. He releases my lip, slanting his mouth down over my own, his tongue forcing its way inside and my hands whip up to fist in his hair.
The hand between my thighs cups me roughly as the other massages my breast, bringing the nipple to an instant hard peak and I clutch onto his hair tighter to hold myself upright.

Effortlessly he turns our bodies to face each other, lifting me to straddle his thighs and wrapping his arms tightly around me as we attack each other’s mouths. There’s nothing quiet about this kiss, it’s got everything in it we’ve been denying ourselves since graduation.

“Oh god, Bella.” He groans, pulling away eventually and transferring his attention to my neck so I can breathe. “I need you. I need to be inside you.”

Heat flashes through me at his words and I arch into his body drawing another groan from him.
“Please.” I whimper.

Yes, please!

If you’re a fan of a strong, sexy Rosalie Hale, you need to read this fic. If you’re not a fan of hard-as-nails, bitchy Rosalie, you need to read this fic – you will learn to love her.

And if you want a good Bella-gets-it-together story, you should read this fic, too.

So yeah, pay Mortissues a visit. And tell her LJ Summers sent you!
