I heard about “Seeing Daylight” on Twitter when cosmogirl7481 rec’ed it, saying she had stayed up late one night so she could read it. Her recs have never led me astray and this one was no different!
The story begins with Bella, who is a property assessor for a bank, on her way out to do an assessment on a ranch. Her schedule has been so hectic that she hasn’t had time to review the paperwork for this particular property. Lo and behold, the ranch belongs to Edward, her ex-boyfriend who ended their relationship 9 years earlier when he chose to pursue his dreams of becoming a rodeo champion. They haven’t seen each other since the breakup and needless to say, neither one is prepared for this surprise encounter. It’s clear from the beginning that there are unresolved feelings and issues between them but neither wants to admit it.
The story is told in the present and Jessypt uses flashbacks throughout the story as a way to fill you in on not only what happened to Edward and Bella’s relationship but what happened to them as individuals after the relationship ended. I really enjoyed these and loved the insight they provided into their respective pasts. Both Edward and Bella had some tragic things happen to them, which I won’t spoil for you here, and you realize there are many other things at play besides a bad breakup.
The chemistry and UST Jessypt creates between them is off the charts! They really do sizzle when they’re together and each encounter, each interaction leaves you wanting more!
“Of course, the brush of his lips on her soft, smooth skin was barely a second, pulling back like they’d both been burned as they realized what he’d just done.”
“Feeling slightly dazed at the feel of being in Edward’s strong arms and the feel of his lips and breath against her cheek, Bella took a quick second to try and collect herself as she, too, stepped back from the hug.”
When they finally give in and kiss for the first time since their chance encounter, it is such a great moment! You genuinely want them to be together and I promise you, you will never be as thankful for a dead car battery as you are in this fic. You will also be excited about a busted alternator, chewed wires and rusty spark plugs, trust me on this!
This is a shorter fic, eleven chapters, but they are eleven terrific chapters. There is so much depth and emotion to this story and it will grip you from the start. The characters are relatable and likable and you will be rooting for them to get their HEA. So, if Cowboywards, rodeos, sizzling UST and a well developed story are your thing, go check out “Seeing Daylight” and leave Jessypt some review love!
Who knew I would be so into Cowboyward? I certainly didn’t, but I love him. I really love this story. It’s got easy dialogue, an intricate but not overwhelming backstory, great characters, off the charts UST, a believable plot, and fucking hot lemons.
She picked it up and smiled in surprise when she saw a picture of him and Marcus, as well as several other pictures of him with members from the rodeo team. About halfway through the album, the tone of the pictures shifted. Every picture was of her, or at least had her in it. There was a picture of them out at one of the clubs, dancing some crazy line dance; one of them snuggled on the couch, her head resting against his chest and his arm draped across her hip; another where she was leaning back against him, laughing as he buried his nose in her neck, kissing and teasing her; but the one that stood out the most was one that showed them standing on a bridge, fingers tangled together and tucked in her back pocket. She remembered that day. They had been out with Rose and one of her crazy boyfriends and had stumbled upon an old foot bridge above a creek of rushing water. Edward had tugged her across, wanting see the water even though he could have seen it from the creek bank. When they got to the center, he’d grabbed her hand, twisted his fingers with hers, and tucked them in her back pocket. Bella could see the laughter in her face and chuckled at how much she used to hate that. They had joked about that endlessly – they’d called it the back pocket love grope.
“That was one of the happiest days of my life,” Edward said quietly as he leaned against the wall beside the couch.
Bella’s head jerked up, startled, and she slammed the book closed. “I’m sorry… I…”
“Don’t be. Those are our memories and I’m glad you found them,” Edward said sincerely, moving around to look at the album with her.
I love this Edward and this Bella and this Rosalie. I love that though I wanted them to fall back into each other’s arms (preferably naked) as soon as they saw each other again, Jessypt told the story of their reconnection in a believable, romantic way. I love so many things about this story. It’s already complete and so awesome, and I hope you’ll check it out!
