ECis4me says: I went looking for a new fic to start the other day and somehow stumbled upon The Ride by aylah50.

The summary is this: Bella and Edward meet at a concert as teenage strangers during the height of grunge in the 90′s. When their paths cross 14 years later, Edward is stuck in the past while Bella is fleeing from hers.

My first thought was, “Great! I’m from Seattle. I grew up in the “Grunge Era” in the mid 90′s, I bet I’ll love this story”. I was right.

She jumps right in to the instant connection Bella and Edward have when they “meet” at this concert. They share a moment without even exchanging names and don’t see each other again until they’re adults. When they do meet again, they have the same instant connection but neither of them has any clue that Edward is the guy from the concert and Bella is the girl from the concert. They both admit they feel like they’ve met before but they can’t figure out where from. Each chapter, I’m on the edge of my seat wondering when it’s going to be revealed and how. Music is a huge part of this story and each time she writes song lyrics into a chapter, the memories come flooding in. Who doesn’t like that?

Bella appears to be such a strong woman. However, we learn that something happened to her all those years ago after that concert, which is another thing we’re waiting to find out about. The sad thing is that we know that one of the best nights of Edwards life was the night of that concert. It seems like Bella had a great night as well, until this “something” happened.

Jake has been Bella’s BFF since High School. We’re learning a little more about what Jake’s feelings have been for Bella over the years. It looks like there might be a little drama surrounding Jake’s feelings towards Edward and Bella’s budding relationship.

All in all, I love this story because it’s full of nostalgia, great music, romance, some yummy ExB tension, there will be some drama and I have a feeling a little bit of angst. You name it… It’s there. I can’t wait for the next update!

I loved this story hard with the first two paragraphs. The 90′s references to Zach Morris and Live? Yes please. The fashion I instantly cringed at Edward’s clothing but at the same time I can beam with pride that I was there for all the awful clothing that we once thought was fashionable. Sometimes in fic’s it can be hard to relate to something if you weren’t there. This is something I can proudly say that I’ve been there, done that and have the awful pictures to prove it. The one thing that draws me into a story more than anything is how well communication can take place between two people without any dialogue. The standard I hold this idea to is Get Me to You, and this is its equal.

The only thing better than the communication is the music. This story should have it’s own playlist on your iPod. From Stone Temple Pilots to Live to Pearl Jam, this story has the ability to take you back without making you feel old. When it comes to the characters themselves, I like that this Edward is normal and somewhat adjusted. He doesn’t have any deep and dark issues. Bella on the other hand does have the issues but is taking the steps to change that. Sometimes you see an author try to force to characters together because they desperately want Edward and Bella be together. These two seem to fit, as cliche as it sounds, these two actually make sense together.

Kassiah says: Awhile back, graphics guru HeatherDawn was making a new banner for someone, and she showed it to me. I wanted to read the story immediately. When the story posted, I saw that the amazing brits23 and awesomesauce76 were her betas, so I knew the story would be hot.

Like Tampagirl said, this story should have it’s own soundtrack. The way aylah50 has woven the music in is absolutely stellar. I love the dual POVs and even though some of the events are repeated, the added insight into what each of them are feeling doesn’t make it feel repetitive–at all. This story is hot and has a very intriguing plot; I find myself wishing and hoping for updates.

I love how this story has a strong Bella and an Edward who doesn’t have it all figured out. He’s successful in life on paper, but wants something more. The mystery of what happened to Bella has me biting my nails, nervous for her. I also cannot wait for them to figure out that they’ve “met” before.

I pressed on her hip and she slowly twisted around in my arms, placing her hands on my chest. With one hand holding tightly onto her waist, I brought the other up and cupped her face in my palm, stroking her soft cheek with my thumb and caressing the fine hairs at the back of her head with my fingers. She exhaled softly, a lustful look in her eyes. She reached up and gently touched my lower lip, recognition sparking on her face for a split second, but then furrowed her eyebrows, confused. “I don’t know why I don’t remember how I know you,” she whispered. “But I don’t care.”

For the great music references, realistic dialogue, and interesting plot, I think you should give The Ride a chance. You won’t be disappointed!
