If we are all lucky, we experience at least once meeting someone who inexplicably changes the course and fabric of our lives forever. The Tutor is just that kind of story. Bella is that person for Edward. She not only helps him work towards something he needed (literacy) to step into the life he didn’t know that he could dream of, but opened him up to the love of the people around him. She helps him grow into someone who learns that help doesn’t equal charity. That opportunity can be found if you allow others access to yourself.

This tale had lots of hurt, but also some laughs. Like when Edward walked in on Esme and Carlisle, Carlisle’s response simply is, “teach him not to come barging in…” LOL! Yet, one of my favorite moments was their first kiss. ItzMegan73‘s use of description and detail had me holding my breath and then melting into arms that were not holding me. I felt the tingle in my lips and the sensation of being consumed. It is delicious.

In the rocky course of Bella and Edward’s relationship in this story, Edward destroys his soon to be awesome vehicle in a rage at loosing Bella. In a rare responsible moment, he solicits a job at a local mechanic shop with the help of Emmett. He gets an internship there to work off the cost of repairing the car. I mention this, because this moment leads to one of my favorite characters in this story, Brian, the shop owner. I think he is the first person who has ever not treated Edward with kid gloves. He makes him face his illiteracy, and not hide behind excuses. He shows him that it is okay to ask for help, but not to hide behind an emphatic “I can’t”. He is a mentor for Edward. He gives him motivation to educate himself, because even a job that requires your hands, also requires your brain. Love, love, love this character.

There was so much growth in this story, not only for Edward and Bella, but the side characters too. Rosalie learned consequence. Alice learned strength. Jasper learned self-worth. This story and its inhabitants had a definable arc that I happily chased after from start to finish.
