Here’s the problem: you are missing Tie Me Down to This World by Struck Upon a Star, one of the best fics on the site, period.
Where most fics go wrong with the Jalice pairing, Tie Me Down goes so very right. Taking bits from canon (Jasper’s scars, Alice’s amnesia), this fic translates the story into an all-human universe in such a way that you can’t not be drawn into their story.
When we meet Alice and Jasper, they are both in the hospital, on opposite sides of a wall. Jasper has suffered horrific burns, while Alice was in a bus accident that left her broken and without any memory of who she is. Through the paper-thin hospital walls, the two form a tentative friendship marked by wall taps and quiet conversations.
Neither feels worthy of the other’s attentions, and the story follows these two very broken souls as they find their way back to being whole, learning to see themselves through the other’s eyes. The UST as they move their relationship beyond hospital walls is stunning, and will have you clicking the link for the next chapter like a crack monkey.
The updates can take a little while, but are so very worth waiting for. I’ve told every single person I’ve managed to corral to read this fic and now I’m telling you: read it now. It’s one of the most incredible pieces of fic I’ve read on the site, and while it could stand on its own as original fiction, the ties to canon give it an even deeper meaning for Twifans.
