Carlisle is smart, compassionate, witty, charming. He’s educated. He’s a patriarch. He’s a fucking doctor.

So, with all these wonderful, delicious qualities, why is Carlisle so underappreciated?

Carlisle, in fic, is either: The Pervy doctor, a la Bella Swan Diaries and all variations of Hot Bitchatude, the wise sage who doles out advice to his rapt children, or the one that pops in to save the day whenever anyone has a medical problem.

It hurts my soul that he’s so underused.

Now let’s talk about Carlisle/Bella. It warms my wasn’t hugged as a child heart. I mean, you guys saw New Moon, with the study? Unf. And Charlie and Bella aren’t that close… it makes sense.

There are about a handful of good Carlisle/Bella stories. What happens at Charlie’s Wedding by Velvetbutterfly is one of them. Now, it’s not Hydraulic Level 5 or solo Jandco good, but it’s good.

Bella and her biffle Alice are traveling to Forks for her father’s wedding to Esme, where they meet Esme’s brother Carlisle. Action!

It’s escapism at it’s best. It’s got a funny, slutty Alice who encourages Bella to get her no strings sex on, it’s got a semi-strong, sexy, fun Bella who isn’t afraid to let Carlisle know what she wants, and she sure as hell isn’t taking his shit. Also, when he refuses to fuck her for the first time, she accuses him of performance anxiety and walks away like a motherfucking pimp.

“Yeah, maybe next time you won’t get performance anxiety. Good night, Carlisle.”

Like a pimp.

We start off with some no strings friendly sex. My favorite kind. Carlisle is older, but that doesn’t matter if they’re just fucking, now does it? Bella’s pretty proud of herself, because, I mean, have you seen him?

Go Bella.

The lemons are barely ridiculous, and this comes from a writer/reader who only reads lemons if littlesecret84 writes them. Anything else I tend to skip/skim. But there are very few “cores” or throbbing anything, which I appreciate. Though there are loud cries of “I’m coming!” He knows you’re coming sweetie, quiet down. The neighbors dog is flipping his shit. Shh.

It’s fun, and light, with just a touch of This-is-wrong-I’m-too-old-for-you and a slightly shady past to make me happy. Don’t even look at me like I’m the only one.

With very little fuss and angst, they jump into the sack. And by sack I mean shower, sofa, kitchen counter, under the table action in front of Charlie, at a club, in her bed, on the floor, in his bed, in the car… it’s basically that Ludacris rap song, you know, where he names all the places he’s going to fuck.

An unfortunate side effect of sex develops.

Feelings.

Carlisle and Bella start getting all sweet, and they hold hands and he tells her he doesn’t want to stop fucking her after the wedding and she’s like “Awww!”

Edward, Carlisle’s son, comes in to mess everyone’s day up, and get’s rejected by Bella several times. He’s got his fair share of Daddy Issues himself.

This fic has minimal angst- the sort of angst coupled by misunderstandings and stupidity of characters, which is easily solvable, it’s fun, smutty, very light, and you really push for everyone to get their shit together.
Read it on a lazy Saturday afternoon, you won’t regret it.

The only canon pairing is Alice and Jasper. We are introduced to Bella and Alice who are travelling to Forks to attend (wait for it)…Charlie’s wedding to Esme. His biceps flexed as he set Alice’s luggage to the side, and then helped Charlie with the other pieces.

Bella tried to swallow, but couldn’t. And then he turned around, and flashed her and Alice a dazzling smile, and Bella felt faint.

“Bella, Alice,” Esme’s voice sounded far away, “this is my brother, Carlisle.”

If you aren’t familiar with C/B pairings, this story is an excellent introduction. Velvetbutterfly has done a great job in creating a chemistry between two characters, despite their almost twenty year age difference and almost makes you ask, “Edward, who?”

She gasped, as he set her on top of the counter, and thrust against her. He moved his mouth away from hers, kissing down her neck. Bella threw her head back, granting him better access. As he nipped and sucked, his hands went under her tank top. His thumbs circled her belly button, and then inched up towards her breasts. He cupped them, flicking her pebbled nipples and Bella moaned, even though the touch was almost painful.

“Oh, my God, please, Carlisle,” she panted.

There is an Edward in this story and he is Carlisle’s son, but the mystery around his upbringing and his determination to sleep with Bella makes him an albeit minor but very intriguing character. The story quickly goes from flirty and full of lust and the author is able to turn a relationship fueled by passion into a love story.
