Official Description:
Bella Swan has a major crush on a major star, Edward Cullen. They have an obsession with the same game. Can they connect through Words with Friends and become more than that? Time will tell! Rated M for possible lemons down the line and some language.
Don’t miss the EPOV companion, Words with Strangers!
The thing about fan fiction – the deliciously, scrumptiously wonderful thing about fan fiction – is all the added extras. If a book is a burger, fan fiction is a triple cheeseburger deluxe with extra fries. All the interaction that you get between author and reader turns an ordinary reading experience into a slap-up meal.
Words With Friends by Nolebucgrl takes the metaphor further. This fic has so many added extras it’s no longer a burger, it’s a spit roast.
I have no recollection of how I found Nolebucgrl, but I’m so glad I did. She is one of the most generous authors I’ve ever come across. She updates fast; she writes like a pro; her grammar and punctuation are so hot they’re sexy; she has a wicked sense of humour; and she answers ALL her reviews.
Seriously – all of them.
Many of Nolebucgrl’s stories involve sports, but the only game in this story is the one in the title – the well known iPhone app, Words with Friends. That is, unless you count the game of romance, and there is a smorgasbord of that going on.
The premise is how a little wishful thinking and some encyclopedic knowledge of the sexy, talented movie star Edward Cullen, lands Bella in the enviable position of getting to know her dream man in Real Life. Sounds like a fantasy you’ve had, huh?
Alice, Bella’s delusional college roommate, tries the same trick, but goes embarrassingly wrong. Her relationship with the hopeless Wannabeward makes it easier for us to suspend our disbelief in Bella’s luck. We’d all love to say we made friends with Rob online by being our sexy, witty and canny selves, but know it’s much more likely that what happens to Alice will happen to us.
The banter that goes back and forth between the made-in-heaven pair is sweet, sexy and funny. 14 chapters in they have been communicating for about a week, so don’t expect this to move very fast. Lemons are promised, but you may have to hang in there for a while.
What other added extras are on the menu, you ask? Well, aside from a fluffy, light-hearted and pleasurable mousse of a story, there is the opportunity to hook up with other readers and play WWF. For a small fee – a review – Nolebucgrl will add you to the list of like-minded players. Bella and Edward’s game is real, by the way – she doesn’t just make shit up, you know.
Then there’s the delectable side dish of Words With Strangers, a companion fic from Rob’s, sorry, Edward’s point of view. This story is only two chapters in, but trust me, it has a full bodied flavour. (Yes, TWSS)
Go read it – it’s a feast with no calories. What more could you want?
