We’re all experiencing the same troubles this morning with a change that was made to FanFiction.net. We are no longer allowed to use line breaks such as: ~*~, or *** and similar options. FanFiction.net has edited chapters to remove these breaks from all live content, but there is a workaround.
Thanks to americnxidiot for pointing this out, here is the easiest way to fix the problem. Also to antiaol who discovered that the horizontal line provided by FFn is not the only option, she discovered that we can also use the following:
(these x’s can be replaced with any lettering you choose)
Step-by-step Instructions:
- Log in to FanFiction.net
- Go to ‘Publish’ and click on ‘My Stories’
- Choose the story you would like to fix and click ‘Edit’
- Click on ‘Contents/Chapters’

- To easily export chapters to your Document Manager within FFn, use the ‘EXP’ link on the right hand side of each chapter.

- Once the chapter has been exported, you can click the direct link to edit your line breaks

- After the chapter is edited, you can replace it by returning to ‘My Stories’ and editing the story once again
- Click on ‘Contents/Chapters’
- Scroll to the bottom of the page until you see this:

- In order to replace the chapter, click on the first box and choose which chapter you want to update.
- Click on the second box and choose the document you’d like to replace it with and then click ‘Replace Chapter’

Hopefully this helps all of you with the problem and you’re able to get it figured out quickly, if you need any additional help, feel free to e-mail me: caren@fictionators.com

You can also use any variation of letters in the breaks, and some symbols are accepted, but it's hit and miss…
thanks for the info!
these things FFn does piss me off ¬¬
I've recently changes to this —->((squiggly line time warp!))or((squiggly line scene warp))But to each there own, right?Cheers!LL
I swear the ppl running FFn have their heads up their asses lately
Thanks for the info! I know I will have to use this as a guide when I post next week.
Hey… I just got back from vaca and missed this… I went back and looked at my stories, and found another designation for a break that was not eliminated by FFn (I used this in one of my fics, and it was not removed):~/~
thanks ya'll!
FFn have some serious issues. I think what bugs me the most is that * * * is a standard scene break indicator in the publishing industry. It makes no sense at all *shrug*
