Official Description: The Doctor and his companion, Bella Swan, visit Bella’s father in Forks, Washington on a seemingly normal day. But events quickly lead them down a different path and they meet some unexpected allies. Will they be able to help the inhabitants of Forks before it’s too late?
Q&A with cdunbar:
Hey! Thanks for thinking of my little crossover. If you got more than one prompt – why did you choose the prompt you did?
It was more like, how could I *not* choose the prompt that I did. I had no choice in the matter, really. Once I saw ‘the Doctor’ I knew that was the one I was going to write. I joked with Ginny after about why she sent me those prompts and she said, ‘Honey… Dr. Who just screamed Christine. Can’t imagine why.’ LOL She knows me too well, it seems. Was this prompt out of your comfort zone as a writer? How so?
Very much so. First off, it was AU, which was vastly different than what I’m used to. I had to keep reminding myself that Edward could hear everyone’s thoughts and Alice could see the future. It was hard to reconcile all of their gifts and vampiness in a way that made sense without feeling like I overlooked something, but it was a good experience. Also I had to get into the Doctor’s head, which was quite difficult at first because he’s a complex man. It took a lot of Doctor Who viewing, studying his reactions to people and events, and researching his past before I felt comfortable enough to write him. What was your favorite passage that you wrote in the fic?
In the third part where Edward sequesters Bella after the Cullens have destroyed the “bad” vampires. It was sort of heartbreaking because canon!Edward is *so* angsty, but I enjoyed writing it because of all the emotions going through him, the one that I wanted to highlight was the hope he felt as he allowed himself to touch Bella for the first time. It’s easy to overlook when reading the books, but Edward needs Bella more than she does him and I had fun exploring that side of him.Did you know the person you were writing this for prior to receiving the prompt? If you did know them – did their likes and dislikes influence the plot choices you made? How so? If you did not know them did you just write the fic the way you wanted to or did you make any effort to get to know them?
I didn’t know her. The only thing I knew was that she was under 18, so I had to keep the fic T rated or below. Actually, the person I originally received the prompt from dropped out of the exchange so I had no idea who was receiving this as a gift until it was put up, but Ginny did assure me beforehand that she was a Doctor Who fan.How long did this take to write? Did you write it at the same time as your other fic(s) or did you put them on hold in order to finish this? Has this influenced your other fics at all?
It took about a month, including all the research I put into it. I had to put Resident Geek on hiatus while I focused on this fic because it was too hard to go back and forth, since they’re two completely different stories and mindsets. Also, I noticed that my style of writing changed a little while writing the Visit Home and I think some of it has bleed into Resident Geek. I’m not sure if it’s for the better or worse, though. :\Why did you choose the prompts you gave the author who wrote your fic? Were these ideas you had for yourself or just fics you wanted to see written?
I really just winged it. I had a couple things I wanted to see written because I knew I would never be able to do them justice and then randomly tacked on the third prompt, which was the one she ended up
writing. My first two prompts were very specific, so I can see why she’d go with the third one since I purposefully left it vague.Would you do it again?
Yes. It was fun and challenging and I loved it. If Ginny and Shug hold another one, I’ll sign up in a heartbeat, but hopefully my other fics will be completed by then so I can focus on writing a longer response to the prompt I choose. That was my one regret, that I wasn’t able to really explore their new relationship aboard the TARDIS before the deadline arrived.Again, thanks for including The Visit Home! It’s been surprising the number of reviews I get that state they’ve never seen or heard of Doctor Who, but want to check it out thanks in part to my crossover. I’m just glad people are discovering the Doctor. I do love him so and I think everyone else should as well.

Kassiah says: Ah, The Visit Home. It’s really funny that over the summer I would see cdunbar tweet about the work she was putting in for the Gift Exchange. Now, I get it. I have long been a fan of her fic Resident Geek, so I really wanted to check out this story too.
This story is well-written and chock-full of adventure. I have to be honest, I know nothing about Doctor Who. I am intrigued to say the least. I love how cdunbar combined the characters of both fandoms. I mean, yes that is what a crossover is supposed to be. But now having read one, I can only imagine how difficult that must be. All I can say is cdunbar is a genius.
One of my favorite lines was this: “The Doctor had a plan.” *grin* If you want an AU fic that is fun and has some sweetness, this is the story for you. The a/n at the end of Ch3 indicates that she is considering continuing the story. My reaction to this news: *fist pump*
mozzer0906 says: I know nothing about Doctor Who, but I have to admit reading this crossover has me putting it on my “to download” list and very soon – it seems completely up my alley.
Bella and the Doctor come to forks and encounter the Cullen clan (completely in canon) as well as the nomad vamps. She adds the Doctor Who twist to the Twilight world in an enjoyable short story.
I think my favorite part was when Edward came to Bella’s window, reminding us of Twilight, but this time it wasn’t stalker-let-me-watch-you-while-you-sleep Edward, because he held up this piece of paper with words that melted me.
I think this is what I have come to realize is cdunbar’s hallmark, she writes these Edwards you just adore and who make you go all mushy inside.
