VanessaRae says: So, I was asked by AmeryMarie, who was helping Kassiah, to review I Love LA, as she and I have a mutual love for this fantastic Rob-fic. This is the fic that popped my RPF (Real Person Fiction) cherry. I was fairly new to the world of fanfic when I found it, and I only found it because it was recced by an ass-load of people in author’s notes of stories I was reading. I have to say that I was timidly interested at first, because I wasn’t sure how I would react to reading a fictional story about Robert Pattinson’s life. I had already developed a healthy obsession with the man himself, and just wasn’t sure if I could read what I considered “someone else’s fantasy” about him. I was proven completely incorrect in my assumption. Feathersmmmm (Alice) has created this wonderful alternate reality where you find yourself rooting for the main character, Grace Bradshaw, to be able to lead this perfectly abnormal life in a relationship with Robert Fucking Pattinson (this is how he introduces himself after she blurts out “Holy God its Cedric Fucking Diggory” upon seeing him). Grace and Rob have quite the age difference, nearly 11 years apart, and it is really the underlying Achilles heel of the story. It doesn’t bother Rob, and Grace likes to pretend she doesn’t care, but it crops up time and time again to bite her in the ass and kick her back down. They bond over Chex Mix, Golden Girls, a mutual love of kick-ass music, and Grace’s boobies. I’m trying to keep this short, so I had to pick out the highlights, and those three things don’t even begin to completely describe how quirky and amazing this story is. It turned me onto RPF, and now I can’t get enough! If I had one shot to convince people to give RPF a try, I would say this: Just do it. I know that some people have an issue with RPF, and I understand. I do. But while reading this gem of a story, I found myself fervently hoping that Rob really did have a “Grace” in real life; someone that he can escape to during all this madness and insanity that his life has become. Alice has done a fantastic job building this whole backstory for Gracie and George (their nicknames for each other), while at the same time taking you on such a rollercoaster of emotions that you feel like you are part of their circle of friends, experiencing each sector as they do, and getting rocked by the the characters’ own feelings as if they were your own. Between Grace’s best friend Jen, her gay friend Jake, Rob’s friends, and Grace and Rob themselves, this is definitely an alternate universe I’d love to live in! One last thing: make sure you listen to the songs she lists while reading–they really charge some of the chapters! I’ve discovered loads of new music thanks to Ms. Alice. And, after you are done reading the story, you then get to look forward to the sequel, coming in the Fall!!
