So I have been a sci-fi geek forever. And the fact that the Sci-Fi Channel changed its name to SyFy makes me shudder every time I see the logo, because I feel it is a bastardization of the genre. But I digress. The point is I’m a bit of a space fanatic. Have been since the first grade when I lied to my class and said that my uncle was an astronaut. And my Twilight obsession is officially two years old, with my fic obsession only months younger. I read voraciously, and have yet to run across a space fic. That is, until I read In The Deepest Space by loss4words.
I am not going to lie; I started bouncing in my seat when I read the summary for this fic.

What will happen to the astronaut, Bella Swan, when she is unable to make it back to her ship on Mars and close to death? Who will come to her rescue and what will she learn about what else is “out there?”

Astronaut? Check. Outer-space peril? Check. Aliens disguised as Cullens? Check, check and check. I’m in!
The first paragraphs have us agonizing with Bella as she takes her last breaths, her thoughts of Charlie and Renee, and her final regrets, feeling she was an ungrateful daughter to her father. As her world dims, we are introduced to Esssme and Emmeet. They are charged with the task of saving Bella, and it is a race against time. Essssme knows that Bella has taken her last breath, and Emmeet scoops Bella up and takes her to their ship, where she is, indeed revived. Essssme and Emmeet, along with Carliss, Ah-lisss, Jasspeer, Roe-salie, and last, but certainly not least, Edwaird, are humanoid aliens from the planet Sisla. Bella is awakened and begins to unravel the mystery set before her. As she adjusts to the realization that everyone she loves-Charlie, Renee, Phil, Jake- is likely dead and she will never be returned to Earth, Ah-lisss drops the bomb that she is to be mated to Edwaird. Traveling through space toward Sisla, Bella comes up on the learning curve of her hosts and we learn that they are, indeed, very sensual beings. If the space ship’s a-rockin,’ then don’t come a-knockin.’
One of my favorite passages happens in the most recent chapter:

I take several long moments to ogle his chest. He is slightly built but has a more languid frame than I expect. His chest is smooth, and he has defined pectorals and abs but still not like body builder ripped or anything. Across the top of his pecs, where his heart is, there is spattering of golden freckles, and a lump builds in my throat. They are familiar to me. What does that mean? He allows me time to look at him, and finally, I bend my head to his chest and kiss the freckles.
When I look back up at his face, there is something there in his eyes that I can’t quiet explain. While there is definitely a look of hunger there, there is something else as well. I dare not say love, because I could never hope that he could feel that for me so soon, but it could be very close to it.
I lightly trace the pattern of the freckles with my finger and begin to trail it up Edwaird’s body, over his collarbones, up the column of his neck, to the lobe of his ear, and finally behind and over his ear holes.
“What are these called? I ask in a whisper.
He swallows thickly before answering me in a deep voice, “Flain.”
“Flain,” I whisper as I trace around the holes, then dip my finger around the groove that curves the shell of his ear.
“Bell-a,” he groans out my name, and it makes me grow wetter.
“Does that feel good, Edwaird?” I purr.
“The mossssst erogenoussss zzzzone we have, Bell-a. Your torture pleassssuressss me. I need you mossssst urgently.”
He doesn’t have to tell me twice!

It made me want to go rub on my hub’s ears and see what it got me.
I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying loss4words’ storytelling. Bella’s internal monologues are funny and poignant at times. She is handling her situation as well as can be expected. NASA would be proud. The points of view of the aliens are so very unique, from the new language to the imaginative world in which they live and things that they have seen and lived through. It is such a fresh take on our old friends from Forks. We have so many things to look forward to, such as Emmeet giving birth, the gang’s arrival at Sisla, Edwaird and Bella’s mating, and how the people of Sisla will accept Bella. There is so little predictability that even those reluctant to try sci-fi might just enjoy it anyway based on the fact that it is simply wonderful fic!

If you are not reading “In The Deepest Space,” you are missing out my friends!! The first chapter had me hooked and it’s now on my “drop whatever the hell I’m doing and read it right the fuck now list!”

This is one of the most unique fic’s that I’ve read. When I found the recommendation for this on Twitter, I kinda expected a crack fic, but Alienward piqued my instrest so I gave it a shot and was so glad that I did. Definitely not a crack fic!

What I love about this fic is that it never fails to make me laugh…the communication between the Alien Cullen Tribe and Astronaut Bella is a riot. The Cullen’s have their own alien language and earthling Bella’s attempts to find ways to make them understand her is a hoot, kinda like this:

I’m suddenly reminded of my humanity as I feel a stab of pain in my abdomen. I really need to piss. “Um, could you direct me to the bathroom?”

“Bath rooom?” Ah-lisss questions, confusion written plainly on her face.

“Umm, urinate…expel?” I hope they will understand one of these words.

Emmeet jumps up quickly and raises his hand in the air, kind of pumping his arm and yells, “Pi-pee.”

But it is also sexy, leaves my mind reeling with questions and theories, as well as satisfying my desire for an alternate reality. It has been a blast getting to know these characters and there way of life and this is only just the beginning. Alienward has become my new favorite Edward…or Edwaird in this case! Here is a little peek at Bella’s reaction to him:

He is tall and lean, at least a foot and a half taller than I am, and God-almighty-in-heaven, his scent is divine. I maintain some semblance of manners and a brain to not reach up on my tip toes and lick his chin, but I want to. Yes I do. My fingers twitch in their want to touch those holes, and I flex them, then ball them into a fist.

He keeps eye contact with me and then, taking a really long blink, leans in toward my ear, and whispers, “xhuh-xhuh.”

“Xhuh-xhuh?” I ask, not knowing what the fuck he is talking about. No longer able to control myself with his warm breath on my ear, I reach up and gently brush my finger over the three small holes.

Loss4words literally takes me to another galaxy far far away with the kidney bean chairs, jizz filled bathtubs, pregnant Emmeet, a shower that I would die for and, of course, Edwaird! She really paints a picture for you and leaves you wanting more.

This fic is severely under-reviewed in my opinion! Loss4words even does a voice recording of each chapter so you can listen and get a real glimpse of how crazy the Cullen’s sound! Go give it a shot and leave her some love, I promise you won’t regret it!

A few months ago, I “bought” the amazing and fuckhot loss4words in the FGB auction. We’d had a running joke about ferengi and the fact that their ears are erogenous zones for them, so when she asked me what kind of story I wanted, I told her that I’d like for her to incorporate that into the story. Oh, and if she could use this as picspiration, I wouldn’t complain:

What I never dreamed was that her mind was so awesome that she’d come up with the genius that is In the Deepest Space. It’s otherworldy. It’s hot. It’s funny. It’s amazing.

I don’t know what else I can add to what aciepey and Sarabella Cullen said. There’s nothing else like it. You should read it.

And this, omr this:

Ah-lisss lowers her hand then and looks me directly in the eyes for several moments. I hold her gaze, trying to convey whatever it is that she needs me too, then she abruptly turns away from me.

“The union is decided,” Ah-liss announces, and all eyes in the room fall on me.

Trust me when I say you’ve never read anythiing like this. Listen to it, and love it like I do!

Official Description: Everything I had done in my life seemed to lead up to this moment. The moment when I found myself bound inextricably to a man I didn’t love, trapped in a life I didn’t want. And if I left him, I would be entirely alone.

aciepey says: “Expectations and Other Moving Pieces” by chrometurtle is my current obsession. It is not a fluff filled ride on the happy train, though, people. We gots angst. Lots and lots of angst. We are given a freshly widowed Esme, an Edward who has nothing but nastiness to say to his wife, Bella, and a mysterious past between the two. After the first couple of chapters, you are wondering, “Okay, chrometurtle, how in the hell are you going to pull a HEA outta this steaming pile of hurt?” And like the trusting soul I am, I place my hand in hers and keep reading.

Edward and Bella are peacelessly coexisting in New York when Edward gets the call that Carlisle has died. It is evident that their marriage is loveless, but for some reason, they feel compelled to keep up the charade. The rest of Edward’s family has had minimal contact with Bella, but believe that all is well with the couple. After enduring the funeral, Edward decides that the couple will relocate to Colorado to be near his family again. We are given flashbacks to when Edward and Bella first met, when Bella turns down his offer of a date because she has a boyfriend, Jacob. As fate would have it, their paths cross again, and a friendship forms between Bella, Jake, and Edward. It goes downhill from there, folks. But not in your typical fanfiction way. There are still secrets to be unveiled. The rest of the clan has played a limited role so far, with the exception of Esme, who makes an effort to befriend Bella. Edward is not pleased with this. At all.

What keeps me from throwing the laptop in frustration about this story is the fact that it is so well written, and I feel like a fly on the wall, watching as the story unfolds before me. My sympathies are with Edward at the beginning. He’s a shy, awkward guy who sees a pretty girl and takes a chance and asks her out. When she shoots him down, you feel bad for him, and when they reconnect, you can’t help feeling that love will win out. But something has happened in between that reconnection and present day that makes that happily ever after seem impossible. And we are also wondering why in the world they are even married to begin with. As the story progresses and she tries to thaw the glacier that is their marriage, my loyalties shift a bit. Sigh. Give me more, chrometurtle!!!

I often find myself listening to John Mayer’s song “Heartbreak Warfare,” thinking that it is the soundtrack for this fic. It just fits so well. You aren’t going to wrap yourself in fluffy goodness when you read this, but you will be wanting more. So I will keep reading. I must, because chrometurtle has crafted her words in such a way that they leave me wanting more, always. Thank goodness her updates are pretty snappy, or else I might just go crazy.

MF’er says: I’ve seen this mentioned so many times in the past few weeks and when it came up on our list of things to consider, I gave the first chapter a look—and I couldn’t stop. The summary is sure to scare off anyone who doesn’t (or won’t) read angsty stories because it tells you, right up front that this isn’t going to be full of fluffy E&B; goodness. But please don’t let that deter you from reading!

From the first chapter forward, the reading is easy and if you’re like me, that’s important. If I’m slaving away to get through the first chapter of a fic—I’m sorry, but I’m not moving to Chapter 2… This one was nothing like that at all, I ended up finishing all of the posted chapters in one sitting, which is a very very rare thing for me to do.

For the first ten chapters or so, you’ll mostly likely do as I did and sit there going:

“Edward, you’re a bastard.”

Or

“Bella, grow a fucking spine!!”

But trust me, by the time you get caught up? You’ll be changing your tune and singing something a little more like, “Edward, what did she do to you? Come to mama, I’ll make it better.”

I’m invested and cannot wait to find out what the conclusion will be in the coming chapters. I’m also praying that the author decides to do some outtakes and gives us some EPOV! (chrometurtle, are you listening? *bats eyelashes*)

mozzer0906 says:
Like MF, I had been hearing people tweet about this left and right and had it on my “to read” list for so long I decided to put it on the calendar. The first chapter is like a sucker punch, it is so unexpected. This fic is so wrought with tension you can feel it oozing out of every word of the chapter. After chapter one, I wanted to know more, after chapter 2, I couldn’t stop reading, and so on and so on. Chrometurtle really does an amazing job portraying the loveless marriage these two are in and the emotions that swirl around that. The thing I like most about this is how it shows these situations are not always as black and white as they seem on the surface. The author relays these emotions so well you will be completely entranced in the fic and realize you have read the fic in record time biding your time until the next update.

Kassiah says: So yeah, I read this too and can’t say much more than our lovely guest reviewer aciepey and my fellow Fictionators. It’s emo and makes me want to cry. a lot. Though I find myself constantly wanting to kick both of them in the face *gasp*, the story is extremely well-written, and I can’t wait to find out wtf is going on.
