Don’t miss the Outtakes.

I arrived fashionably late to the Parachute party. After joining the Edwardville community over on LJ, I saw banners and a lovefest all over the place for this lovely little fic. While it’s already got a strong following, it really needs more attention. I admit to being a pretty visual reader and a good banner never fails to draw me in. This one had two of my fav KStew/RPattz portraits mixed with a cute kid. Count me in. The banner made me click, the summary piqued my interest, the characters and the plot drew me in and kept me there, aching for more.
With the end of one of my all time favorites, This is Not My Life, I found myself missing something in my update queue and Parachute nicely steps up to the plate. They have some key similarities in that there’s one adorable kid, Edward’s kid, and Bella finds herself in a position of unexpectedly taking on the care of said kid. From there on out, the stories are deliciously different.
Right from the get go this story sucks you in. The prologue is set in the present and gives you just enough to make you wonder what the heck happened for Bella and Jack, her son, to get to the point they find themselves.
Going from there we rewind to five years earlier. Bella’s a young college student who just happens to stumble upon an adorable little boy in an alley while she’s out shopping with her friends. This Bella is one I really like. She’s young and a little unsure of herself and where she’s going, but when she finds Jack she also seems to find herself. She’s instantly drawn to him, like we so often see her character drawn to Edward, and forms a fast bond with ‘Little Bit.’
Jackson is my main love in this story so far. He’s really just an all around awesome little boy and you can’t help but fall head over heels for him, just like Bella does.

“I wished for you to be my Mommy, B.”

“Is that what you really want?”

“Please? Can I call you that now? I promise I’ll be extra good and eat my peas every time! Okay, maybe not every time, but you know what I mean!”

Seriously? The kid’s got me swooning all over the place. You just know he’s gonna be a heartbreaker.
The plot is intriguing and gives you just enough every chapter to keep you guessing. It’s obvious from the start that Edward is Jack’s dad, but it takes longer for the rest of the mystery to unravel. How did Jack end up abandoned in the alley? Why hasn’t anyone stepped forward to claim him? When and how will Bella find where Jack came from? It’s obvious that Jack loves his Daddy, so WTF happened? These are all questions that are slowly getting answers.
The author also does a great job in covering a lot of time in a short amount of space. It keeps the pace moving swiftly to the point where we’re all DYING to reach: the prologue, and (of course) the arrival of Edward. After all, the genre says ‘Romance’…
If you’re not reading this one, now’s a great time to start…just sayin’.

Like bellamarie117, I found this fic over on Edwardville and was immediately sucked in. I would like to issue a disclaimer here that I have no idea about what’s going to happen. So, if you’re a wussperv (like I thought I was), I am not sure if this story is going to stay that way. That doesn’t mean that it won’t–just that I don’t know.

Geez that’s some rec, huh? I want you to read this story–it’s different from any other that I’ve read, and I really like it. It’s a mystery, and I love the way that KitsuShel reveals what’s going on, bit by bit. Though Jackson seems wise beyond his years, he is absolutely adorable.

“Let me help, please,” he smiled at his grandmother, who beamed right back at him. Esme looked over at Bella with a teary gaze.

“Such a gentleman,” she remarked. Bella snorted and then covered her mouth in embarrassment.

“Sorry,” she giggled slightly. “He is a little gentleman, when he wants to be. He helps out, holds doors and let’s women go first. Unless it’s a fight for the last cupcake or to get to the tv first, he’s golden.”

“That’s so not true,” Jack laughed, while shaking his head.

“Oh, don’t even,” Bella argued back, laughing now herself.

Though Bella and Edward’s first interaction is understandably strained, I’m holding out hope that it won’t get too emo since she’s marked it as a Romance. Give this story a try–I think you’ll like it.
