Miztrezboo has written some very compelling stories, peopled with relate-able characters who draw you into their lives. So when she wrote this little Femme slash piece I read it, even though I don’t generally read slash. I’m so glad that I did. Once again, she treats us to characters whose inner lives shine through the narrative. Alice’s dissatisfaction with her job, and general ennui are deftly handled and shown to us quickly. Despite her state of mind, Alice’s inner monologue is often hilarious.
I smiled, and stood, holding the back of my skirt down hoping that the little weasel wouldn’t get a better look than he already had today on my body. Yet I failed, because as I covered my back half, my top popped open a little more and revealed the tiny sheer black demi cup bra I had on underneath. I mentally slapped myself, realizing just what was giving him that added smirk. Trust today to be the day I wear the one with the little pink bows above each nipple. Great, now he thinks I’m wearing sexy lingerie for him when it was really because I woke up feeling like shit and wearing my sexy girly things always made me feel better.
Alice’s attention is well and truly caught by the mysterious woman who comes into the store on a hot summer’s day. The wonderfully descriptive passages of Rosalie are some of the reasons I love this story. Phrases that convey exactly what Alice is feeling, and are vividly sensory.
Sweet like my aunt’s caramel tarts at the Spring Fair. Fresh, like when the summer rains fall, steamy and sweet on your tongue and something else, something so familiar and yet so exotic I knew I needed to breath it in again.
The second chapter switches to Rosalie’s point of view, and through her eyes we get to watch their slow unfurling towards each other. Rosalie is at a bit of a cross-roads in her own life, and her encounter with Alice awakens her.
I grinned back at her, a little lost in her stare. A little lost in the fact that she was still smiling, and her cute button nose I just wanted to press with my fingertip. She was sweet and beautiful and intriguing all bundled into what appeared to be about five foot of petite beauty. She was so little, even I could probably pick her up and throw her over my shoulder like some cave woman type deal, then again, I had about four inches on her.
For the final chapter we move back to Alice, and things really heat up! There are so many wonderful lines here that it’s hard to pick and choose among them, but this is one of my favorites.
Her fingers traced over the soft charcoal and ebony lines of my tattoo, moving up over the limbs and branches and swirling around the tiny cherry blossom buds. The gold bangles on her wrist slid along her forearm, the metal clinking with each movement as her index finger set fire to my skin, skimming over my ribs and stopping only when my bra ended the trail.
The sensory feel of Miztrezboo’s writing draws you in as a reader and immerses you in the world of her characters. The super steamy lemon in the final chapter is amazing, and the snarky life she breathes into her characters inner narratives is priceless. I’m sure you’ll love it, so head on over and give it a read.
