Footfalls Echo in the Memory was written for the Love of Jasper Contest and my first reaction after my heart was done breaking was WOW.

There are three characters in this O/S: Jasper, Bella and Alice; however, this is not a poly story.

Jasper is a man that Alice watches pass out near her home in Morocco. For no apparent reason when Jasper wakes up he can’t remember anything about his life before. Alice makes sure to nurse him and then help him try to find his memories. They never really come back to him. He has a “B” tattooed on his arm, and they come up with the name Ben for him.

Ben and Alice fall in love, even though he feels like he can’t give away his heart completely to her. He just doesn’t know why he can’t. While this is going on we see snippets of Bella who is waiting for her fiancé to come home from a dangerous job. He doesn’t call when he is supposed to, and eventfully he is assumed dead. Alice seems to know her time with Ben is limited as he tries to find out his past. I wasn’t sure if I wanted Jasper to never remember, or for Bella to get her fiancé back.

inside-the-disarray keeps you on the edge of your seat with a box of Kleenex close by with lines like this:

I can’t understand my fixation with remembering. It’s been two years since she found me. Anything I had in the past is long gone by now, I’m sure. I’m happy with my life. I have a home, a fiancée, a family. But I find myself still lying in bed awake at night, wondering what it is that’s missing. I love Alice with as much of myself that I can possibly give, but there is something, some small place in my heart that I can’t give her. It eats me alive, it makes me feel like a terrible person, but more than anything, it terrifies me to think of what used to fill that space.

Want to know how it ends? Go read it and leave some love when you’re done. You won’t regret it.

Normally I wouldn’t have read something labeled Jasper/Bella/Alice, even with the promise that it wasn’t a threesome. But this month I’ve decided that I’m going to use my time with The Fictionators as a way to expand my horizons. Footfalls Echo in the Memory did not disappoint.

This is a beautiful oneshot, filled with love, confusion, and just the right amount of angst. Which characters your loyalties lie with determines how you will feel about the ending. For me, I’m left needing– no wanting, the rest of the story.

Who wouldn’t want more of this?

For Alice, seconds dragged on. She stood frozen in place as the noise of the busy city sidewalk faded into oblivion. Her every sense was focused on the man beside her as he stared hopelessly back at the brown-haired girl. Something in his eyes changed and time stood still.

Alice knew that the next words out of his mouth would change her life forever. She held her breath, waiting for the girl’s name to fall from his lips. Flashes of their time together twirled through her mind like she was watching though a kaleidoscope. Their future, their lives together, the diamond ring on her third finger—none of it mattered anymore. She just knew.

A man awakens in an alley. He doesn’t know where he is, where he came from, or how he got there. He cannot even remember his name.

Elsewhere, Bella feels her heart shatter into a million pieces with each day that passes without word from her fiancé. She cannot bring herself to give up on him…not until she receives that phone call.

Alice, the girl who found the man, helps him, and little by little, he learns things about himself. His blond hair and blue eyes, coupled with a slight Southern twang in his voice, indicate that he is most certainly not Moroccan, but why is he there? He can speak French and Arabic. He can read and write, yet all the details about his life and preferences are gone. And then there is something else; something he can’t quite get a handle on, but deep in the darkest corners of his soul, he knows something – or someone – is missing, and he believes that if he could just unlock that one memory, everything else would fall to place.

Everything in this story is a mystery, but the way inside-the-disarray unravels the details, the readers understand what has happened, and your heart is torn in two directions. By skipping from “Ben”‘s life to Bella’s and then to journal entries our lost man makes over the two year span, readers are sucked into a heavy emotional climate, full of longing, fear, and memories.

This is one of my favorite one-shots, (also a For the Love of Jasper contest Hosts’ Mention), and in my opinion, it has never received the attention it deserves. If you’re looking for something original and edge-of-your-seat, you will love this.

I would never have read this if Dulci hadn’t insisted. And now, I am so, so glad that she did, because I would seriously be missing out on what is one of the best one-shots ever.

The other reviewers did an amazing job telling you what’s going on in the story, so I’ll just mention certain moments that really stuck out to me and will stay with me forever. Like when Alice traces over “Ben”‘s “B” tattoo, hoping that it stands for his name, picturing Jasper pouring over a crossword puzzle, like he had been doing his whole life with Bella, and Bella sitting on the shore with a letter she’d drafted to her lost love.

I do not know how in the heck inside-the-disarray got all of this packed into a one-shot. The history of the all three characters, the depth of their emotions, the longing that Jasper/Ben feels to know his past as well as the apprehension that looms over him at what will change if/when he ever does remember…this is absolutely amazing. The way she has intricately woven details together, like when he says “Bono” when trying to come up with a “B” name for himself, only for us to later find out that he’s not a U2-fan. I could feel the pain and just everything as Bella fell to her knees as she received the call from Jasper’s mother. The snippets from the past we got, including Jasper’s proposal to Bella–how could *I* love a fic so much that only mentions Edward Cullen one time, and in passing? I don’t know, but I do. This should seriously be a movie.

This story has everything you want: passion, love, an amazing plot, moments that make you laugh and cry and think. It has quickly become one of my favorites, and it definitely should not be missed.

Official Description: Edward is having trouble balancing his urges for Bella’s blood and Bella’s body before the wedding. What started out as a simple “Practice Fic” has become a retelling of BD from EPOV that lets us see just how much he struggles for control at every turn.

HookaShewz says:
Blood and Lust was brought to my attention because of the Golden Lemon Awards. After I read the winning excerpt, I told Kass I wanted to write a guest review; but seriously, who wouldn’t want to review this fic after hearing it won a Golden Lemon for Best Description of Pussy Flavor.

Here’s the excerpt that made me want to read;

I opened my mouth on her without any hesitation for the very first time. With a loud growl that shook the both of us, I lapped hungrily at her, dragging my tongue against her soft folds repeatedly. She tasted like sin and fuck and heaven all rolled into one. I couldn’t stay in one place, each part of her tasting better than the last. I sucked her juices from her, burying my face as deep as I could, moving back and forth from her clit to her opening. I slid my tongue deep inside of her, tasting the mixture of our flavors blended together and knowing that there would never be another taste in all of existence to top it.

Speechless? Maybe a little breathless? Yeah, Me too.

When I first jumped into Blood and Lust I hadn’t read the summary. I didn’t know if it was AU or AH, canon or out of character. All I knew was it had to be HAWT if it won a Golden Lemon award. So I dove right in and fell instantly in love.

In chapter one we find out that Edward struggles with not only his blood lust for Bella, but sexual lust as well. Edward constantly fights the urge to bite her. So what makes this different from other Breaking Dawn rewrites? This is what makes it different for me:

Well, there I was, sitting in a classroom full of students, trying with every ounce of my strength to not grab this strange new girl and drag her off to rip her throat open at the same moment I buried myself inside her to the hilt. It was as if decades of latent seventeen year old boy lust had decided to gang up on me in a retrograde attack. Bella Swan had given me a painful thirst for her blood… and the first erection I’d experienced in ninety years.

The more I thought about it, the harder I got. The more violent the murder scene in my mind, the more I could feel the pulsing and throbbing in my manhood. Each time she shifted in her seat or flipped her hair, I was struck with another wave of molten lust. I felt my final grasp on sanity snap as I stood up and cleared the table off in one swoop of my arm, sending the microscope shattering to the floor and little jars of planaria flying across the room. I grabbed Bella and threw her on top of the desk in front of the entire class, her clothing ripped into shreds within seconds. My engorged shaft was sinking deep inside of her and pumping away roughly as I brought my mouth down on her throat. I could feel my teeth breaking the delicate skin of her neck the same way that my cock was penetrating her body.

Then came the blood. Sweet, glorious nectar. It was so hot, so delicious. It flowed as freely as the juices between her legs, covering me. I drank and drank with reckless abandon while I thrust even harder into her welcoming body. She moaned and whimpered and held me tightly, loving this glorious death I was giving her.

AwesomeSauce76 takes us through the amazing journey of Bella and Edward ‘practicing’ for their wedding night. She takes us on a tummy dropping roller coaster ride of struggles and successes. By the time we get to the wedding night, we are thrilled for them and then immediately devastated for Bella when Edward becomes so afraid he is going to hurt her again, that he refuses to be intimate with her again.

This is where its similarities with the book start to cross, but she gives us so much more. She did a great job with expanding on the pregnancy and what Edward was going through as he watched Bella waste away, unable to do anything. The following excerpt from chapter eight broke my heart:

Once I had come out of my panic-trance after Bella dropped her bombshell on me, I had foolishly thought that she was as terrified as I was of this unknown evil entity that had taken up residence inside of her body.

Wrong.

She was terrified of me.

Even with the sadness, she also makes your heart swell when reading about him hearing the baby’s thoughts while still in the womb. Just like in the book, this totally changes Edwards opinion on the baby. He went from thinking of the fetus growing in Bellas belly as an “it” to an actual baby.

She continues the story with the wonderful experiences of Bella being a vamp and the cottage. Oh yeah, and she gives us the missing ‘happy times’. This is where Edward gets to taste her truly for the first time.

They have to learn how to balance being parents with their intense need for each other. Edward is also shocked to find out that he still wants to bite Bella. He is just as shocked to find out Bella wants him to bite her. I loved the following excerpt from Chapter 12 part Duex:

I could feel Bella’s nails digging into my back, scratching across the muscles there and feeling amazing. I licked my way back up her neck, sensing a now familiar urge starting to take over when I neared her throat. I let my teeth scrape along the surface of her flesh, not quite biting, but enough to leave a slight sting behind.

Everything happened very quickly after that.

Looking back, it’s almost a blur. We had been taken over so completely by our instincts that it almost felt as if we were puppets being pulled towards a violent end against our will.

As soon as she felt my teeth leave her neck, Bella screeched and pulled my hair fiercely until I was looking her in the eye. Her blood red gaze was absolutely rabid. The vampire goddess was back… and she was pissed.

“Don’t you EVER fucking tease me!” she screamed, wrenching my head back further and clamping her teeth into the side of my neck, right over my original bite mark from Carlisle. Her teeth punctured my skin there and it was like I was being reborn, claimed in the name of Bella. It felt so painfully wonderful that I immediately began climaxing, shaking so hard that I nearly dropped her.

As soon as she released her jaws from my skin she was pushing and shoving at me until I let her go. She slid down my body and glared at me angrily. It slowly dawned on me what had just happened, and with that realization came my own unfamiliar rage. Just like earlier, I was furious that she had dared to bite me first, regardless of the fact that it had felt amazing. When Bella saw my transformation she smirked.

“Then fucking DO something about it!” she yelled at me, reaching out and scratching her nails down my chest so hard that it stung. She placed both hands on me and shoved, knocking me off my feet. I looked back in time to see her running away into the trees.

The story is close to being complete. Currently she is giving us a look at preparing for the battle with the Volturi. There’s no doubt that I think you should read Blood and Lust. I know you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

SnowWhiteHeart says: Ok, so as soon as I heard horny vampward…I was IN. Now you’re speaking my language!

Enough with this puritanical bullshit. The nature of vampires is sensual. They bite a tender area, namely the neck. They suck warm life-giving blood from their victims, leaving them weak and rapt. Vampires literally live off this intimate act. The whole thing is incredibly sexual. Sorry for the rant, but I used to teach Dracula. :)

So why this prudish Edward we see so often? Why does he have such chaste values and such absurd willpower? He’s a seventeen year old boy who hasn’t EVER been laid…and he’s lived a CENTURY for god sakes!

Enter the story Blood and Lust. A truly good take on a more realistic Edward, sexually. No, not a Slutward/Hornword/Woodward, but a creature of base desires. Blood. Lust.

And in the beginning, it’s dark stuff. Good dark stuff.

Down boy!

Now, the beginning of the actual plot is something you’re probably familiar with. Edward and Bella practice being intimate on many levels before the wedding. I think many of us who write have toyed with this great concept– we all love the slow burn of the idea of Bella and Edward eventually getting freaky, milestone by milestone. Blood and Lust is by no means cliche or worn-out, but it’s a great execution of this notion that many fics don’t get right.

Namely, the tension. B and L really portrays just how *fucking* frustrating this balance is for Edward. And Awesomesauce (love the name, bb) doesn’t hold back in the dialogue department when Bella and Edward are discussing their precarious situation.

“Bella, pardon my French, but are you fucking blind?” She snapped her head up to meet my blazing golden stare, a look of surprise on her face. “I have repeatedly told you that I feel like I am the lucky one to have found you. You accept me as I am and love me despite all of my flaws. I am a bloodthirsty, murderous monster, Bella. That should trump any insecurity you may feel.” Seeing that she still looked skeptical, I added, ” Bella, it’s not a matter of you belonging to me. It’s the simple fact that from the day I met you, I have belonged to you! I am putty in your hands. I find you completely irresistible, otherwise I would not be here right now.”

“But Edward-”

“But nothing!” I interrupted. “If I was physically able to keep any sensible distance from you at all, I wouldn’t be standing in your bedroom at three in the morning, ogling you when you’re half naked while at the same time, trying not to kill you! I’m doing everything in my power right now to keep from either biting you or fucking you senseless, and it’s almost impossible to think straight with the nearly twenty-four hour hard-on you give me!”

Honesty IS the best policy, Eddie. Good job. And he’s not SHY about his …wording.

What I wouldn’t give to hear the big EC tell me, “Bella, baby… spread your knees a bit wider for me.”

Bow to the chicka-wow.

Now, admittedly, I’m not completely caught up on this fic. Hey, it’s hard to keep reading after you’ve “twirled-the-pearl” five or six times during one chapter. ;) But, I digress, I’m sure this fuckhot ride will continue to thrill, for sure. I know it heads into Breaking Dawn territory, and I’m more than cool with that.

Now, I’m going to have to stop because I’m at work and nearly panting. Is it getting hot in here?
