Official Description: When is enough truly enough to avenge the women you love? The beast that is retribution consumes Edward’s mind, body, and soul. Everyone will pay – Edward Cullen has no limits. Will Bella? Could she be his salvation, his angel – the one who stops him from spiraling to the darkest depths of hell?

Kyrene once Blood Roses says: Oh Ultio, very excited to be writing a review for Ultio. I clicked on this fic on a whim one day when I was on Twilighted. Their signature intrigued me, so I figured, “why not?”  While I’m used to disappointment when I act on a whim like that, this story reminded me why that is sometimes a good plan of action.
In my mind, a vampire Edward has a lot of potential to be something dark and borderline evil. We all know the intensity of our Edward, who has killed in the name of justice, would kill himself after the death of his love, and kill other’s of his kind to protect her.
What if she’s killed by something else? By something killable, something weaker than vampire? And what if Bella isn’t the wife? What if Edward had found his mate years before Bella ever existed? And if she dies? Well, take a note from Eclipse: what would Victoria do? And then add the creativity and genius of Edward.
As the summary says, this Edward has no limits to his revenge. The threats he makes are absolutely cringe worthy at moments, and his actions leave you sitting with your mouth wide open. Is this OUR Edward? Written in third person, we see both sides of the story, something Edward is completely incapable of comprehending. Because of this, we see innocence. The characters caught in his web of revenge, begin has nothing but children. We watch as their lives turn from something hopeful to something akin to personal Hell, for accidents, a slip of the tongue, or just guilt by association.
Like a villain from a movie, Edward shuns his family, and lives every day for the pleasure of torturing the “guilty”. Is there an end to this? Well, vampires live forever for a reason. My favorite part of this Edward? There are no red eyes he needs to hide from his family or the people around him. Darkward doesn’t need to feed on human blood to be what he is.
So what part does Bella play in this? Absolutely nothing special it would seem at first. He can read her mind, albeit it’s a little harder than most. Her scent doesn’t seem to have any special hold on him. She’s still the usual self-conscious girl we know, ; in fact, her self-esteem is probably the lowest I’ve ever seen it. What a great time for White Knight Edward to swoop in and raise it for her, right?
No. You want dark? How about straight-up, mentally abusive dark? Bella is a tool for his revenge, and no matter what feelings he may form, Edward is in this for the win. Is there hope? Of course, there’s always hope. But do you really want it? I’ll be frank; this is the first story I’ve ever read where I have to sit in wonder if I even WANT an HEA for Edward.
As you take this journey of revenge with Edward and his unfortunate victims, you watch as he commits unforgiveable acts against two families and, most importantly, Bella. As you read, ask yourself – can you find peace through single-minded, malicious vengeance and corruption?
