Official Description: The summer before her junior year in college, Bella moves to be closer to her father. All the while adding some much needed space from her crazed frat-boy ex-boyfriend. Being there for her father comes with the fresh start she needs. (One without men to complicate it) Until, one evening after her shift the most gorgeous man she has ever laid eyes on…comes to her aid. He causes Bella to almost forget the vow she’s taken against the opposite sex. Almost. That is until the realization that he’s a frat boy and she’s never going there again. No matter how those intense green eyes make her feel.
What will happen when Bella transfers to the University of Washington and meets a handsome coed, Edward? Will she find peace from her past or be stuck playing the part?

LexieCullen17 says: When I was asked to do a guest rec for A Silver Tongue, I legitimately started bouncing in my seat, not only because, um, hi it’s one of my very favorite stories, but also because it is an amazing story that no one knows about.
A Silver Tongue is that elusive AH fic unicorn—it’s well written, interesting, smart-mouthed characters, complex storylines, fuckhot sex scenes, and just all around unique. It baffles my mind daily that it’s not being read or reviewed by more people. Seriously, how many of you reading this rec haven’t heard of this story before? Probably a huge chunk of you. And for that, I will spend the next however many words telling you why this story should be one of your favorites.
The story starts off with Bella transferring from her university in Florida where her stalker ex-boyfriend was just given a restraining order (yeah, when was the last time you saw that in a fic) to, where else, University of Washington.
Now, just when you think the story might be bordering on some dangerous fic, clichés, BAM, the entire game is changed. A man hating Bella begins working as a bad ass bartender with little patience for gropey guys, following the lead of her tatted up, equally raunchtastic boss, Angie. One night on the job, Bella struggles to throw out a particularly poorly behaved fraternity boy, James (who else, right?) when none other than Edward shows up. Only, he’s one of James’ fraternity brothers, and Bella has little patience for him either.
What starts off as a rocky love story, though, soon diverts into a fabulous subplot. A secret point of view is revealed, watching Edward and Bella as they work through their differences to ultimately get together. This POV stalks them thoroughly, becoming increasingly more violent with each day, hoping to break them apart for good. It’s fascinating and unlike anything I’d ever read before. As of today, it still hasn’t been revealed who the secret POV is, but I know who it is (buahaha, evil laughter), and let me tell you, you WON’T be disappointed with the reveal.
But as well as scaring you somewhat shitless, this outsider POV gives the reader amazing perspective on all of the characters, giving more depth to their quirky personalities…so much so that her secondary characters become just as important as Edward and Bella (as denoted by her recent nomination for the Indies in the category of Best Secondary Characterization). Charlotte, her roommate, is a southern debutante with a big mouth and an even bigger personality. Alice is Edward’s better half, a master manipulator, who is ultimately responsible for the B/E union. Emmett is an overgrown teddy bear, the president of their fraternity, willing to lay down anything for his family, and Jasper is a hippie stoner who owns his own college bar. Speaking of which…
Bella, as well as being a total bad ass, is also a poet. Jasper’s bar has an open mic night where Bella performs weekly as “The Unnamed Poet.” il-bel-mondo writes all the poetry herself, and some of it…good god…will have you squirming in your seat.
“Hush dear hold your words, silent…breath in the sounds of my excitement.” I drew in an audible breath and sighed its release. “I feel their eyes on us, peering and watching…enjoying the gossip, laughing and talking.” I let my gaze wander away from Edward’s and made eye contact with the faceless others that occupied our space.
“Mesmerized by your stare, comical in my need to be near…mental games and slips of hands fuel my desire.” My hand slid slowly down the thin metal of the stand, and I pulled my face back after I said, “I step away from your sex on fire…Engulfing flames, encasing heat…” My words’ volume grew louder along with my want to feel his skin under my touch.
Our eyes stayed locked as I spoke. “Night time escapades end when day break meets…my back against a wall, you pressing into me…my mouth on your cock while you drive haphazardly.” He broke the visual hold we had by letting his eyelids drop and his face tilt towards the ceiling.
“Moans and flashes of skin…my need overtakes me, without you my breath would end.” I took a long pause and drew in their attention. “Your next move fuels the fire. Flames erupt as you move inside her; her is me as my skin scorches. Your touch the flames, your fingers the torches…skin on skin, bones melding in sin.”
And that’s only the beginning.
I know this is the most ADD recommendation ever, but seriously, how do I whittle down my favorite parts of the story to share with you when the entire thing feels like my child or my best friend (and I’m not just saying this because the character of Charlotte was based on me–*winks*)
The real answer is, I can’t. There’s too much to love about it to even begin recommending it properly. So, if you haven’t read this beauty of a fic yet, please run over there right now and show this one the love it deserves.
Kassiah says: I really love this story. I love the banter between Edward and Bella (as well as the other characters). I love that il-bel-mondo has taken changed our perceptions on many of the characters. Rather than Angela being the meek-smart-girl-who’s shy, she’s a badass bar owner. Instead of Bella’s sidekick character being fulfilled by Alice, it’s Charlotte. I love that in spite of these twisted characterizations, she’s kept so many of the canon characteristics that we love to read in fics.
A Silver Tongue has one of the best “meeting” scenes I’ve ever read:
“You do like him,” Angie smirked. “Dammit, Bella, you’re blushing like a school girl.” She was really amused. I, however, was not. Then she winked at me. So not funny, Ang.“Whatever, Ang.” I shot at her. Whoa! Great comeback there, Swan. Dee da dee.
“So, tell me Bella, what else did you notice about him?” She purred at me.
“Well, like I said, he had sexy hair.” Ang nodded, encouraging me. “He had the most intense green eyes and pretty lips.”
Angie started laughing. “Pretty lips?”
“You know, like those lips that you just want to run your tongue across? Those pretty lips.” I could see my tongue on his, as I explained it to her.
“Mmmmhmmm, is that all you noticed?” She cooed at me. What’s with the interogation?
“No!” I was getting embarrassed by her questions.
“Oh wow. Bella has a thing for Mr
. Pretty Lips Sex Hair!” She was in a fit of giggles, again.“No, I don’t. I don’t even know his name,” I spat at her. Hello Officer Obvious, just ask her. Duh!
“It’s Edward,” a velvety voice said.
My jaw dropped as I spun to see him standing in the doorway. Please, God, tell me he did not just hear what I said.
Because it’s fuckhot, has great characterizations, amazing banter, and a great plot that makes you think, I highly recommend A Silver Tongue. Check it out!
