Faking It by Spanglemaker9

Official Description: Half of Hollywood’s most famous couples are faking it. That’s how Bella Swan’s publicist convinces her to pretend to date troubled Hollywood bad boy Edward Cullen. And she’ll do anything for her band and her music.

Don’t miss the Outtakes!

In a fandom where we’re constantly asking ‘are they or aren’t they?’ and ‘PR relationship or true love?’, I can’t think of a more relevant storyline than one about two famous people being brought together by their publicists. No, this story isn’t about Ashley Greene and Joe Jonas and their epic romance. It’s also not about the very obvious PR relationship poor Robert and Kristen have been forced to fake over many, many months and several continents. I’m talking about Bella Swan, whose band, Eclipse, has just won “America’s Next Great Band” and Edward Cullen, the bad boy movie star who is now unemployable due to some reckless behavior.

I hate revealing storylines and plots in reviews, so I’ll just talk about how much fun this story is. I read it a long, long time ago, and remember anxiously waiting between updates and pestering people about how angsty they thought it was going to get, what they thought about Edward, how pretty Bella’s dress was, and of course, how insanely hot the sex was. Because the sex here is really, really hot. I mean, there’s arm-chewing in limos and Edward is delicious.

(Although his arm isn’t the one that’s getting chewed)

When Kassiah told me that “Faking It” hasn’t been reviewed on The Fictionators, I was shocked, because this story is a Twific classic. I’m not even sure why I’m writing this right now, because everyone has read it, right? If you haven’t, you really should. The plot is interesting and fun. Spanglemaker9 has developed characters who you’ll root for, and when she describes pretty things, it’s the best! You will absolutely love reading about Bella getting ready for events. No one writes pretty dresses, complex characters, and UST quite like Spanglemaker9. I have no doubt that anyone who reads this story will end up falling in love with her words, and one of the hottest Edwards in Twific.

I was one of those people that littlesecret mentioned that hadn’t read this story until this week. And I fell in love (thanks to cosmogirl7481 and marvar29 for pimping it to me).

spanglemaker9 managed to create two great characters who find themselves stuck in an impossible position. And then they both find the one thing neither of them expected… each other.

While we’ve seen our Edward as an actor a few times in fic, it’s not common that we see Bella as a famous person too. In this case, she’s the face of her band Eclipse, and she’s the good girl to our bad boy… Edward. Edward is in need of a reputation makeover, while miss Bella is trying to get her band in the spotlight.

These two start off their shaky ‘fake’ relationship with a very public date, that turns into something neither expected:

“Hey, Bella,” I murmured, scooting closer to her with a smile, “See that guy at that table over there? Don’t look!” I motioned nearly imperceptibly with my chin. She nodded. “He’s media. Spying on us. I think we should give him a little something to report, don’t you?”
Her eyes widened in alarm. Christ, was being touched by me really such an unpleasant prospect to her? “Relax, it’s just for show. You’re safe.”

And before she could flip out or protest, I angled my body across hers and buried my face in the crook of her neck.

“See? No big deal,” I whispered into her neck. She just about leapt out of her skin.

“You’re tickling me!” she hissed.

“Hold still!”

“But it tickles when you talk!” she was squirming underneath me and trying to stifle a giggle.

“Quit wiggling! Okay, I won’t talk. I’ll just nuzzle.”

She started to squeal, but I slid my right hand up to the base of her neck and angled her head to the side, giving me better access to her neck. I trailed my lips along the length of her neck, just barely touching her. I meant to just goof around, give the guy a show and maybe get a rise out of Bella at the same time. But now that I was here, with my nose buried in her hair, her floral, slightly spicy scent was making me lightheaded. And her hair, what was that scent?

Strawberries. It was such a simple girlish smell. I was used to women smelling like a complex mix of very expensive grooming products. Her silly strawberry shampoo was killing me. And there was this feeling when I touched her like this, like electricity, I could feel it sing along my fingers and down my spine. It was crazy, and intoxicating, and I didn’t want to stop.

That made me a bit flaily… as did several other parts of this story. What follows their arrangement is sweet and adorable and just what I look for when I’m trying to find a good story. I highly recommend checking it out, and it’s complete so you can dig in and consume it all at once!

You’re missing out if you haven’t already read this story!

Oh, Faking It… this is a fic I really miss; it’s an oldie, but a goody. It’s been almost a year now since it ended, but it’s still my favorite Edward as a famous actor fic. In fact, it’s pretty much the only one, as far as I’m concerned because all others pale by comparison. It does switch POVs a little more than I’d normally enjoy, but it doesn’t necessarily detract from the fic.

Why do I like it? Well, for starters, it’s well-written and unique in that Bella is an adult in a famous band. The whole premise is that Edward is kind of a douche who needs an image makeover, and Bella’s a good girl with a good reputation – her agent talks her into fake dating Edward as a way to a] make him seem less of a jackass and b] get more publicity for the band.

“My law school friend, Laurent, happens to be publicist to Edward Cullen. And yesterday, after this tidbit hit the internet, I received a phone call from him. We had lunch, and he has made us a very intriguing proposition.” Aro stopped and leaned back in his chair, flexing his fingertips together, fixing me with his steady, steel blue gaze. “You and Edward Cullen. An arrangement.”

“WHAT?” I shot out of my seat.

Aro quickly held up a hand to calm me. “Please, Bella, let’s just discuss the whole thing in detail before you dismiss it out of hand.”

“You want her to whore herself out to Edward Cullen?” Emmett roared behind me, “I don’t think there’s anything to discuss!”

“No, no, no,” Aro’s patient demeanor never faltered. “There would be no actual intimacy between them. He would never lay a finger on her, if she so chose. Will you at least listen to the situation before you refuse?”

I looked back at the others. Emmett and Jasper looked tense, but controlled. Rose looked calm, willing to listen. I trusted Rose and her instincts above anything else. If Rose wanted to listen, then I would listen.

I took a deep steadying breath and raked my hands through my hair to push it off my face. I slowly lowered myself back into my chair.

“Explain it to me. All of it.”

And so it begins.

If you’re one of the few people in the fandom who hasn’t read this fic, I recommend giving it a try. It’s an interesting look at celebrity and definitely makes you consider what’s real and what’s not in Hollywood.

I don’t know what I can add besides I love this story, and I know you will, too. It’s classic and Spanglemaker is one of the most talented writers out there. It’s one of my favorites, and I hope you’ll read it :)

Rhapsody in B by LillyBellis

Official Description: When a rising musician falls in love with his small-town childhood friend, can their yearly New Year’s Eve tradition bring them together once he rockets to stardom and leaves her behind?

littlesecret84 says: I hate giving things away in reviews of stories I love. I just want people to take my word for it and read them. And review. A lot. They should just trust me, because I obviously know what’s best for them. Clearly, this is all about me and not about Lillybellis, or the wonderful story she writes – Rhapsody in B.

I can go on and on giving examples of what I love about RiB, but I’d be ruining it for all of you. Instead, I’ll simply copy/paste the summary:

When a rising musician falls in love with his small-town childhood friend, can their yearly New Year’s Eve tradition bring them together once he rockets to stardom and leaves her behind?

I found RiB when Lillybellis tweeted a link to it last fall. I read the prologue and it completely sucked me in. The prologue was in Charlie’s POV, which is pretty unusual, but it was beautifully written, and made me feel things. I thought about waiting until the story was complete to read the rest, but when I received the alert for the next chapter, I immediately clicked on it, and I’m so glad I did. RiB is one of the most captivating and well-written stories I have come across.

Where do I begin? When I think about RiB, I always wonder what I’d categorize it as. Fluff? Angst? Romance? Friendship? There should be a category that encompasses all of these genres, because RiB has it all. While RiB makes me smile and laugh a lot, every word Lillybellis writes makes my heart ache. A sweet ache I long for between updates. The best kind of ache. It makes me cry. It makes me laugh. It makes me remember old friendships and miss people from my childhood, or from when I was twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen. It reminds me of the overwhelming sadness you feel when you lose a loved one, but also reminds me of the people who stand by you when this happens. The people you may not spend every day with, but who matter more than anyone else. True friends who become your family, who know you better than anyone else. Oh, the things Lillybellis makes me think about. It’s cruel, but she does it so beautifully that I can’t hate her.

So in RiB, Bella and Edward grow up together. The story is set in the 90s, and it’s so much fun to go back in time with the entire gang. That sounds so lame. I assure you, the story is not lame. Anyway, Bella and Edward grow up together, and there is so much sweetness and love and amazing writing that you won’t be able to take a break while reading the chapters. The format of this story is unique – each chapter takes place on New Year’s Eve. We basically grow up with them, watch them change, develop as characters. Ultimately, we watch their lives take completely different directions. Their New Year’s Eve tradition brings them together again, if only for one night a year, and it’s oh so painful and beautiful at the same time.

That’s one of the things I love about RiB. The separation is painful. I cry real tears! But it’s also wistful and sweet, because it’s clear that they both love each other – it’s just that the timing and circumstances are unfortunate. Bella doesn’t sit around all year and mope. She’s strong, she lives her life, has friends, she loves. Even when she sees things that cause her pain, she doesn’t crumble. Her strength and the way she deals with the situation break my heart, and I’m always in awe of her.

Friendship, angst, nostalgia, romance, laughter. An Edward to swoon over, a Bella to admire. Charlie, wonderful Charlie. Adorable James. I’m forgetting a lot of people, but that’s fine, because you’re all going to go read this. And you’re going to tell Lillybellis she’s amazing, and you’re going to thank her for writing it.

SnowWhiteHeart says: New Year’s Eve. A night of major expectations, right? A night where you “have” to be doing something special, or be with someone special. Rhapsody in B is a lovely story set across several NYE’s in the 1990′s. It’s full of fun, nostalgia, longing, and sometimes sadness. It’s glorious.

Fathers and sons didn’t attend the same high school to maintain an idiotic birthright; they did it because there was only one high school in the whole damned town. Generations filed into The Forks Diner for dinner every Saturday night, not because the food was particularly good, or to keep up some kind of moronic custom. No, they ate at that diner because it was the only one within a thirty mile radius, and if they didn’t they’d be stuck trying to choke down some god-awful homemade slop being passed off as dinner. I was a newlywed; I knew a lot about choking down god-awful homemade slop.

Charlie Swan himself narrates the first chapter of Rhapsody in B on New Year’s Even 1975 with his newlywed wife, Renee. Lillybellis does a great job w/ the Chief’s voice, but also manages to make a special moment with Renee really sweet and authentic. Fast forward to the totally-radical early 90′s.

“I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up!”

All I could see were Jasper’s feet as his ratty old tennis shoes shot up in the air after he rolled off of his chair and onto the floor. Emmett laughed so loud I could feel the table vibrating, and the two of them were acting even more stupid than they usually did.

“God, I love that commercial,” Emmett said as he locked hands with Jasper to pull him back up onto the seat. “Every time that old lady falls down the stairs…”

“Emmett cracks up like an idiot,” Edward whispered, right into my ear. His warm breath made me shiver.

I absolutely love how Lillybellis seamlessly weaves such great nostalgic memories into her dialogue. Between references to Urkel and the ORIGINAL 90210, this is a must-read for any child of Generation X. Here’s a hint if you’re a Gen-X-er….did you drink Crystal Pepsi? :)

Aside from the cute references and the awkward teenage moments, there is some real depth to the story. Bella’s mother died young. Edward is consistently out of Bella’s reach. There are touching moments that will make your heart break.

“There was always this time, this empty space between when our lessons ended, and when you’d come downstairs to do your homework. I didn’t want to leave, because I always just liked being around her, you know?”

I nodded, swallowing against the lump in my throat. I understood that feeling completely.

“I’d sit at your kitchen table, watching her as she got ready to make dinner. It used to be a quiet time. I’d sit there and pour over the sheet music she’d given me for the new song I was trying to learn, or I’d just watch her, because…because she was just so different from my mom. Once she got sick, I stuck around more often, maybe because I knew our time together would be short, I don’t know.

“It got to the point where she’d stand there, chopping vegetables and stuff, she’d say things like, ‘Bella likes to have cherry popsicles when she has a sore throat. The twin pops, not the single ones,’ and ‘Bella gets sick when she reads books in the car. You can’t ever let her bring a book in the car.’ Completely random stuff that I thought maybe she was trying
to remember, or that felt good for her to say out loud.”

I smiled, because Edward always remembered the best things, the happiest times. When I was with him, when he talked about her, I felt like she was just in the other room, not years away, her memory stowed away in songs and pictures and things that would never, ever be her. Edward brought her back to life.

“It took me forever to figure out why she did that, but over the last few months I finally began to understand,” he said, his fingers brushing the skin between the hem of my shirt and the waist of my pants. The feeling made my whole body tingle.

“Why did she do it?” I asked.

‘Because I think,” he began tracing a small circle on my hip, “she was trying to teach me how to take care of you when she wouldn’t be able to do it anymore.”

Oh, I’m sorry, I should have pointed out that you should grab some tissues. /sniff

Anyways, I think Rhapsody in B is such a wonderful blend of genres that you absolutely must sample it. I was astounded at the range of emotions it was able to produce. It’s extremely well-written, and the storyline will certainly keep you wanting more. Enjoy, friends.

MF’er says: I just deleted everything I had to say because I can’t possibly put into words as beautifully as these girls have how much I adore this story. Since the very first chapter I’ve been in love and I regularly pester Lillybellis because I want more! She has such an incredible way of making me fall in love with her characters and her words, it’s just impossible for me to explain how she does it. Between her words, the humor, the heartache, the wonderful 90′s pop culture references and the UST, it all just comes together to make a gorgeous story that you will be sorry if you don’t read it!

Official Description: Bella is quickly on her way to being a married woman, but what happens when she questions her commitment? AU, AH, OOC. Rated M for future chapters. Nominated for Best Alternate Universe Human WIP at the Indie TwiFic Awards.

LittleSecret84 says: When WriteOnTime tells me I have to read a story, I read it. So I clicked on the link she tweeted even though I had a “new no fic” rule and I am so glad I did. The Sweetest Thing is different from most stories out there. We find out from the very beginning that Bella is getting married… to Mike Newton. No, don’t freak out! Mike actually seems like a good guy, but probably not the one for Bella, who is incredibly anxious about marrying him. In fact, she is so freaked out about the wedding that Bella decides to return some bridal magazines Mike had purchased for her.

Guess who works at the bookstore? Uh huh, it’s Edward.

Now, I don’t want to give any more of the plot away, but let me just say that if my local bookstore was owned by Magpye’s Edward I would never leave. Like, ever. My entire salary would be spent on books and I’d forget FF ever existed. That’s how amazingly sexy and interesting Edward is.

(note to readers: pay attention to his shirt/buttons/sunglasses)

I promised not to give anything away, because this is so good that you want to go read it for yourselves, but let me just mention that they become friends and the chemistry is off the charts. Bella’s internal monologue is witty and never annoying (Bellas tend to annoy me – a lot), and Edward is well… just go read!

What I love about The Sweetest Thing is that these are all good people. No one is despicable, there is no “bad guy.” It’s just Bella, trying to figure things out, and Edward, realizing he really, really likes this girl who is unavailable. It’s not some torrid affair and it’s definitely not majorly angsty given the subject matter. It’s smart, well-written, hilarious, and just incredibly sweet.

Kassiah says: I told littlesecret84 that she said everything I wanted to say and more in her awesome g/r. I don’t know how long I have had this story on my list, but I could kick myself for not reading it sooner.I think you’ll love this fic.

One thing that I really love about this story is how likable I find Bella. I seem to always love and fawn and swoon over Edward, but I find myself feeling almost proud of Bella in this fic. I also really enjoy Alice. That doesn’t mean that I don’t love Edward because trust, I do. He is absolutely swoonworthy and adorable. Did I mention noble? sigh.

This story is fantastic, with great character development and a truly believable plot. The characters have issues without being overly angsty. There are some moments of incredible fuckhotness that leave me panting for more. I can’t wait to find out what is going to happen next and that’s simply The Sweetest Thing.

While We Drifted We Were One by ooohlalaaa

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5154173/1/While_We_Drifted_We_Were_One

Official Description: When Rosalie & Edward’s relationship becomes something more after being friends their entire lives, both deny that it’s anything but physical. What happens when Bella shows up? Will they give into fate or continue to lie to themselves? AH AU

MyLittleSecret84 says: While we Drifted We Were One is not an Edward-Bella story. That’s probably the first thing you would want to know. The second thing you would want to know is that it’s written by Ooohlalaaa, who in my opinion can do no wrong. So when I found out that she’s writing a Rosalie-Edward story I was a little skeptical at first, and decided to lurk around to see if I could get into it. The lurking soon ended when I realized just how well-written and captivating this story is. In While We Drifted Rosalie and Edward are lifelong friends who have been hooking up for about eight months when the story begins. In Rosalie’s own words:

“I staggered into the bathroom to take care of my typical morning-after-drinking-so-much-I-did-Edward routine.”

The first thing that struck me was the familiarity between the two characters. Written in their respective POVs, we get the following observations:

“Before he said anything, I heard Edward’s nails scratch against his scalp, a sound I’d know even if I went blind.”

“ I hummed at the sensation of her fingertips pressing against my scalp, a feeling that she knew had been soothing to me since I was a little boy.”

Despite all the hooking up and their friendship, these two don’t exactly get along. Rosalie refers to Edward as a poser and Edward calls Rosalie an “unmotivated, materialistic, impassionate stranger.” Their relationship is dynamic, to say the least. They clearly adore each other, and Edward admits to friends that he’s in love with her and has been obsessed with her for years, but Rosalie’s actions make it impossible for them to become more than friends and fuck buddies. Enter Bella – who Edward agrees to go on a date with to a) get his mother off his back, and more importantly 2) get a rise out of Rosalie – and things get angstier and more difficult for everyone involved.

Bella almost seems like a ghost in this story, especially when she is first introduced. I read mostly B+E – I don’t like other girls touching Edward, talking to Edward, being around Edward – so I wonder sometimes if I will be upset with the author when and if Bella ends up hurt. The truth is, however, that any sympathy I have for her is the sort of sympathy you’d have for a secondary character. As narcissistic and bitchy as Rosalie may be, it is her pain that matters here, as well as Edward’s. And the author does a magnificent job of getting us to identify with Rose, understand her, and care deeply for her. I feel almost desperate when I read it, feeling angstier than I did when I stayed up all night reading Wide Awake. This doesn’t mean that Oohlalaaa’s wonderful sense of humor and wit aren’t present, however, so don’t worry about it being too angsty.

For those of you who doubt they can get into this, try to put all judgments aside. I know this is not for everyone, and I respect the choices people make with respect to what they read, but believe me when I tell you that this one is worth it. Oohlalaaa’s writing gets more poetic with everything she writes, without ever losing the wit and humor that we are all familiar with and love. The author does with every chapter what few people manage to do at the height of their stories – transport me to this world she has created, make me feel a dozen emotions at once, and sympathize with pairings and characters I never thought I could care about.

One final note: the Edward here is yummy, he does very sweet things, and he wears vintage-y clothes and is a musician. The chemistry between them is ridiculous, and when Rose and Edward are alone together, things get really, really hot. Read it for that, if nothing else.

This will not disappoint.

RedVelvetHeaven says: MyLittleSecret84′s rec is so complete and amazing, I feel there is little I can add to sway you to read this story. I can only simply say….have you ever read a story where you know you are reading something coming straight from the writers heart? A story that regardless of the content…the plot…the characters…the writing alone can hold you; keep you coming back for more? This is one of those stories. Having the opportunity to beta for OHL for this story is probably one of the greatest experiences I have had being a part of this fandom. From the very first chapter I was in love with this story.

OHL shows us the vulnerable side of Rose. She shows us the bitch we all know…then pulls off the mask. With intense rawness, she delivers, by far, the best Rose I have ever read. Edward is equally amazing. He is as deep and beautiful as he is messed up, confused, and frustrated, and you will get so mad at him for all the wrong choices he makes…but if you are honest with yourself, you really do understand why.

I could never fault anyone for not being able to read out of their comfort zone…but if you’re ready to take a chance…the amazing and hauntingly beautiful writing in While We Drifted will make it all worth while.

Kassiah says:
Everyone who knows me knows that I love OHL like nobody’s business. That girl could ask me to walk through fire for her and I would. That girl could put out a story that Edward is in love with Rosalie and I would …read it. On the other hand, everyone who knows me also knows that I am a Bella/Edward girl deep in my soul. Pair anyone else you want to up–fine with me, but I cannot deviate from an E/B coupling. Would the OHL-loving side or the E/B side win out with me as I drift along in this journey?

First, I would like to say that this story is, in my opinion, OHL’s best writing. I have read everything she has written, except her earliest work, and you know Resistward holds a special place in my heart. This story is so beautifully poetic and emotional and so deep, I just want to erect a monument in OHL’s honor.

I do agree with MyLittleSecret84′s assessment that Bella is inconsequential to this story; she could be anyone and it wouldn’t matter. This is a story about Rosalie and Edward. Sadly, my E/B half wins out and I find myself crying and begging him to let Rosalie go and put all of his efforts into Bella. There are sweet moments between Rosalie/Edward that anyone other than me would be a fool not to appreciate, from him tying special strings around her wrists to singing her a special song in the park. It’s romantic, but it’s angst to the nth degree for me, and I can’t handle it. It is also fucking hot, I mean *fans self*, but for me, it’s the wrong couple and even the hot smexin’ makes me emo.

If you are a reader who can look past the need for an E/B pairing, read this story. It is beautifully written and such a wonderful fic, you will seriously be missing out if you don’t. Even if you don’t think you can handle it, give it a try anyway. I will be here to hold your hand afterwards, I promise.
