Fall to Ruin One Day by sleepyvalentina

Official Description: Isabella Swan is finally ready to face her past. That is, of course, until she winds up sitting next to it on an airplane. A lot can change over a decade—goals, careers, aspirations, locations. Love? Extended as a FGB piece for Elizabeth440.

When Caren asked me to do write up a rec for ‘Fall to Ruin One Day’ (okay, that is not entirely true. I told Caren to tell Kass that I WANTED to write the rec when it came up on ‘Fictionators’) I was so excited. I’ve written two other rec’s on here before and both of those fic’s have gone down as two of my most favorite. I’m thinking that, ‘Fall to Ruin One Day’ by sleepyvalentina will be added to the list of mine too. Recommended and Most Favorite.

‘Fall to Ruin One Day’ comes to us from author, sleepyvalentina, the author who brought us ‘Art After 5′,’Counterpoint’ and several other loved and well-received fic’s. She slipped by my radar with her previous fics, but when I saw several people talking about ‘Fall to Ruin One Day,’ I had to take a peek. And oh my heart…I had no idea what I was in for.

The story begins with Bella at O’Hare airport in Chicago, leaving her home, to visit her best friend and former college roommate Alice in Washington D.C. We know from Bella’s thought process at the airport it has been ten years since she’s seen her best friend. We also learn the reason for her long absence has to do a with a man still connected to Alice. As fate would have it, Edward Cullen, the man she has spent a decade trying to get over, is on the same flight. The awkward first exchange gives way to just how palpable Bella’s pain toward him is…

Fifty feet away from me might stand a man with lips I’d kissed and a body I’d clung to in my sleep, but that’s where all similarity ends. As much as I want to believe otherwise, I’m not breathing the same air as the man I love, whom I’d spent the past ten years missing beyond all reason; I’m merely occupying the same space as his ghost.

They are seated next to each other on the plane, a covert move on Edward’s part after seeing Bella at the airport, and the first exchange they’ve had in years commences. We see Bella fight through a range of emotions during the conversation, most of which revolves around pleasantries and ‘what have you been up to?’ talk. He is fulfilling his dream as a U.S. Senator and she is a Sommelier at a swanky Chicago restaurant. It all seems very nicey-nice at first but, the underlying current, the deeply wounded words they share at times let us know this was breakup of emotional devastation.

The rest of the story so far is following a present day scene along with a past flashback. We see how their relationship began with an innocent flirtation between Bella, who was crushing on Alice’s older brother, Edward. When Bella has no place to go during a week’s long Thanksgiving break from school, she’s invited to stay with Edward at his home. Almost immediately, there is an intense attraction that gives way to undeniable physical attraction. Although Bella is inexperienced, she knows there is more to what she is feeling besides what he is just doing to her body.

His kiss has a rhythm that my hips take it upon themselves to replicate. My shirt rides up and exposes my underwear, and the next thing I know, I’m on on my back. He’s on top of me with his tongue in my mouth, his hands in my hair, and his hips between my legs. It doesn’t matter that he’s wearing pajama pants and I’m wearing underwear, I can feel that part of him against that part of me. Though he’s physically closer to me than anyone has ever been, it’s not close enough. I wonder if any such thing exists. I think about this long after he’s fallen asleep with his arms wrapped tightly around my waist. Something tells me I could have him inside me, and I’d want him to be even closer.

Make no mistake, this story isn’t pure smut. The lovin is hotter than hot, yes, but there is so much more going on. It’s not quite talked about yet, but we can tell by where they are in present day, that this relationship progressed much further than the physical, and for an extended period of time. This is what makes this fic so good. For anyone who can relate, having that one intense, immediate and life-changing relationship that maybe didn’t make much sense, couldn’t be explained, is the one that changes us forever. Then one day when it ends, we spend years trying to make ourselves feel whole again. We may never get there. That person can come back into our lives, much like Edward did with Bella, and you are right back where you were years ago. All the same feelings with the only difference being years of separation and a breakup you have questioned for years.

At one point I tweeted, “Bella…You are so stupid! I’d do the exact same thing though.” She may be stupid to be entertaining the thought of allowing him back in her life after such a debilitating breakup, but I ask you, if faced with that one person, the one person was your Edward, could you say ‘No?’ It’s why canon Bella couldn’t, and my suspicion is FtROD won’t either.

Sleepvalentina’s writing is real and honest. Her Bella is one of the most refreshing one’s I’ve read in a very long time. There is a very fine line between writing a naive, inexperienced, but smart Bella and writing a naive, inexperienced, but dumbass Bella. Bella can be young and slightly immature without being stupid. Unfortunately many fic writers can’t find this balance, but Sleepyvalentina does is brilliantly. Bella is intelligent, goofy and often misplaces her ‘think-before-speak’ filter, but these are things that makes her so endearing. It’s the exact reason Edward falls in love with her. And while we are on the subject of Edward, he is solidly placed. He is very smart, very focused and very intense. He wants Bella, and he goes after her without regard. While some may view this as dickheaded move considering her age and experience level, it’s written in such a way that there is such a painful honesty behind his take-charge attitude. Again, I suspect, this clash of personalities will prove to be an issue in the future, but I would expect nothing less. This story shows us a candor that is both equally lovely and painful…just like real life.

And oh my…this story updated just as I was writing this. Did I mention that she updates frequently? At least once a week? I didn’t? Well, she does.

So, yes, run and read ‘Fall to Ruin One Day.’ It will suck you in and you’ll never look back. Plus, I met Sleepyval at ComicCon this year and she seemed like a sweetheart to boot. What more can you ask for?

I’ve been a longtime fan of sleepyvalentina‘s work, and though I’ve loved everything of hers I’ve read – I have to say, this one’s my favorite.

I’d even go as far to say it’s quickly earned a spot in my top five fics of all time.

sleepyvalentina has created characters that are real and raw. The tension and emotion she manages to convey with so few words literally jumps off the screen. Almost every chapter has the power to send me from either extreme tummy flutters to epic heartclenches to tears in the blink of an eye.

The story begins with a flashback to 1999, when a much younger Bella finds herself at the airport seeking to start a new life. We find out very soon the reason for this…

As I make my way to the ticket counter, I can’t help my awareness that it is the first day of the rest of my life—a life without Edward Cullen.

In every chapter that follows, we get a glimpse at the past, a snippet of the future, or both. And after ten very long years, Bella has finally decided to return home to visit friends for the Thanksgiving holiday. To say she’s unprepared for what she finds before she can even leave her new home state of Illinois would be an understatement. She’s unprepared to deal with her past so quickly colliding with her future, but she handles it well – on the outside at least.

“Hello, Isabella,” he says as he slides into the seat beside me.

His smile makes me weak, and if there was any question as to why I’d put so much effort into avoiding him over the past ten years, I now have my answer. His affectation of formality notwithstanding; in his presence, I lose myself.

I acknowledge him with a curt nod and respond to the tone of his greeting in kind. “Senator Cullen.”

With the progression of each chapter, we get to experience first love and the way it can take hold of us like no other. Along with this now being on of my favorite stories of all time, I have to say this Bella is probably one of my favorites too. I absolutely love the innocence of her younger self and her inability to filter absolutely anything from Edward and his oh-so-bubbly butt.

His back is to me as he pulls a pair of boxers out of the top drawer. I don’t know what he does with his towel; I just know one minute it’s covering his ass, and the next it isn’t. I think his butt cheeks might be like the sun—that I’ll go blind if I look at them directly—but I can’t help myself; they’re too perfect. Then he steps into his boxers and I get a glimpse of something even more fascinating than his ass crack. There, dangling between his thighs, I see the back of his ball sack.

“Doesn’t that get in the way?”

He pulls on his boxers creating what I can only describe as a total eclipse of the ass. When he turns to face me, he’s laughing.

I squeeze my eyes closed and scrunch up my face. “I said that out loud, didn’t I?”

“Yes, you did,” he says. “And no, it doesn’t.”

“I can’t believe it,” I mutter under my breath.

“Why? I’ve been working with it my whole life; I’m used to it.”

“I meant I can’t believe I said that.”

There’s laughter in his voice. “I can.”

In the future, we get to see how much she’s changed and grown. She’s older, wiser and much less naïve than she was in the past. Though, she may be just a tad more jaded… I fistpump hard seeing how strong she’s become, because something tells me she’s going to need that strength in the future to overcome what’s about to happen. Not just with her return home, but learning the truth about what’s happened since she’s been gone.

Like I said before, every chapter is a rollercoaster of emotions and you’d be crazy not to jump on the ride. It’s worth it, trust me. If you haven’t already, go check out this story so I have more people to discuss it with!

For the Summer by camoozle

Official Description: Every year Bella waits for the ‘Pay Checks’ to roll into her sleepy river town and every year Edward’s hers, just for the summer. AH, AU, OOC, B/E

I’m so thrilled to be able to recommend ‘For the Summer’ by camoozle because it owns my heart right now. A delightful story of friendship, first love and all the emotions that come along with it. Each chapter brings us to a new summer, exactly a year later than the chapter before, and takes us along on a delightful ride.

Starting in the summer of 1983, we follow eleven year old Bella, whose family owns the marina at a popular vacation spot in Arizona, and her new friend Edward, who is visiting for the summer. They spend their time doing things most adolescents do: swim, goof around and antagonize each other. At the end of the summer, Edward gives Bella a birthday present, which is still a month away, and a gesture of “so you can remember me.”

Every year, Edward returns, a little taller, a little smarter, and ultimately, a lot more handsome in Bella’s eyes. Then, as summer comes to an end, they say their sad goodbyes to each other once again, and Edward leaves her with another birthday present. As they age, the inevitable feeling of attraction grows between them and an innocent love begins to bloom.

“You know, I’ve never done that before,” I say and Edward grins.

“It was okay for your first time,” Edward reassures and I laugh because I know he’s lying. He’s touched boobs, for crying out loud.

“Yeah right, it was awful,” I say, frowning a little as Edward steps away from me.

“It wasn’t awful,” Edward says as he starts back down the hill. “You’re supposed to move your mouth a little, kind of relax your lips.”

“Can we try again?” I ask as that damn blush creeps into my cheeks. I don’t want Edward thinking I’m a terrible kisser because of a technicality.
“We can practice all week, if you want.” Edward flashes me a sly grin and I’m filled with a mixture of excitement and nervousness and dread. Because even though the thought of kissing Edward again makes my stomach tighten in new, foreign ways, his words leave me with an aching in my heart. One week, that’s all we have left. One week.

Camoozle takes us through the heat of the summer, the feeling of melting ice cream on fingertips, teenage hormones and climbing through windows to forbidden bedrooms, and while the prologue is assuring us of a HEA, there are whispers of angst coming. Seriously though, how could there not be? Summerward and Marinabella are only together for a handful of weeks out of the year before they have to return to their other lives. Those lives are found hundreds of miles away from each other, where the confusing emotions of the teenage psyche mix with outside influences, and off-balances everything they believe to be true.

Quite simply, I adore this story. I think you will to. Don’t believe me? I leave you with one of the Birthday gifts Edward left for Bella at the end of the summer. Dare you not to swoon.

The sun burns with magnificent heat.

The water ripples in soft waves.

The hills bend and curve, holding the river in a tight embrace.

She is my summer. My heat, my waves, my tight embrace.

Happy Birthday, Bella. I’ll see you next summer.

Love,

Edward

Told you so. Read it.

Adorable. Heartbreaking. Funny. Sweet. <- All descriptions of this story.

Melissa228 recommended this to me a few weeks ago and once I started, it was almost impossible to stop (just like vampires and blood). Camoozle has created a Bella that I absolutely love, her inner thoughts and attitude make me giggle. I’m also a big fan of the ‘slow burn’ and the fact that the love (and lust) she develops for Edward isn’t instantaneous. These kids go through quite a bit before they make the jump into something a little more than friendship. And since they only see each other for a few months out of the year, it gets harder and harder to say goodbye each time the summer ends. Which means that as the chapters go on, it gets harder and harder to finish them, because you know what’s coming.

But it’s so very worth it, because the story is just that good. You’re definitely missing out if you’re not already reading this!

I love stories that can make me giggle, and For The Summer does not disappoint. A giant goobery smile was plastered on my face the entire time I was reading.

All of the characters have been perfectly written. Those little moments that I remember feeling during adolescence are all there. The nervousness, the awkwardness, and the absolute newness of everything.

“What? You…you kissed somebody?” I ask, forcing the feelings of anger and betrayal from my voice. I have no reason to be jealous, no reason to think Edward wouldn’t have girlfriends. He’s very nice and cute and of course girls would like him. But this makes us uneven again, and I foolishly hoped, maybe someday, Edward would like me like that, that maybe he’d kiss me.

But not now, not ever. Not after he kissed some other stupid girl and touched her boobs. No, I will have nothing to do with loving Edward.

It wasn’t that long ago that I was going through the same things as Edward and Bella, but I sure don’t remember it being as yummy as camoozle writes it. If my awkward moments had been laced with the sexual tension that builds between Edward and Bella, it would have been a lot easier to get through.

And then I feel it, a crackling hum, an electrical impulse, a spark. Whatever it is that Alice was talking about, I feel it and I know. And I’m scared and nervous and excited that his hand is touching my cheek but I want to be closer still so I crane my neck, tilting my head towards his. He leans down slowly, he’s so close now I can feel his breath on my face, his hand falls from my cheek and slides around my back instead and he pulls me even closer. Our bodies touch, my wet tank top against his bare chest and I relax against his lanky frame.

*sigh* Dreamy, right? if you haven’t already, make sure you check this one out. In the meantime, I will be sitting here waiting not-so-patiently for the next update.

Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin without fangirling this story. It’s always fun to read the variety of stories and styles that exist in this widespread fandom, but I am an absolute sucker for an author who creates strong, clear characterizations and a plot-driven tale that is exciting and heartwrenching to watch unfold.

The premise is simple: Bella is a young girl (eleven when the story begins) who lives a small town, working class life with her father and older brother. Every summer, they work in Charlie’s marina, tending to the Pay Checks who come each year for vacation. Bella is a product of her upbringing – of the sheltered life, of growing up surrounded by men, and of Charlie’s philosophy on business. Her constant repetition of this is the evidence of her limited world view and the way she is affected by what (and who) surrounds her.

“I just hate the beginning of the summer. All these people think they’re so special with their big boats and their fancy clothes,” I say, thinking about the boy’s new leather shoes and the way he winked at me, like he was thinking of a joke and I was the punch line.

“Those big boats and fancy clothes put a roof over your head, missy. And an ice cream in your hand.” Dad winks and holds out a couple of shiny round coins, and I know he’s right. It’s no use arguing with him, I know we’re luckier than most folks in this little town. Besides, it’s the start of the season and Dad’s busy. I shouldn’t bring him down with my sour mood.

“I know, Daddy,” I say, slightly ashamed I even bothered him at all. He gets up and places the coins in my hand before kissing me on the head. That’s my cue to leave, and I pocket the money before walking back out into the smothering heat.

So we meet Edward – just turned twelve years old, and he’s on vacation with his father (who is too busy working to do much with him) and his step-mother (who he and Bella nickname “the vampire witch monster”). Despite the differences of Bella’s life in Arizona and Edward’s in Seattle, they find that they’re not so different, and a bond is forged.

“I don’t have any brothers or sisters. I’m a lonely child,” Edward mumbles as he fiddles with the knobs on the washing machine, and I quickly pick up my underwear from the floor and shove them into one of the canvas bags along with the rest of the clothes from the dryer. Emmett’s going to be pissed at me for not folding, but I’ll just have to do it back at the house.

“You mean, an only child,” I say as I toss the clothes from the washer into the dryer. I turn the dial and push the start button and the machine begins to tumble.

“No I don’t,” Edward says quietly, and again my stomach feels all strange and mushy. I know how he feels. Sure, I have Emmett, but he spends a lot of his time with Jacob’s brothers. I’m alone a lot, and if I’m not alone, I’m usually wishing I were.

And so it begins. Bella and Edward become summer friends, and all too soon, it’s time for him to return to Seattle. Bella fears that this is the end of their friendship, like so many other one-time summer visitors have been before, but Dr. Cullen enjoys their summer enough to return year after year, and with those summers, the relationship between Edward and Bella blooms.

Each chapter, they are another year older and have more experience that comes with life and time. Their feelings for one another stretch beyond friendship, moving into places that are frustrating, exciting, confusing, and full of unnameable longing.

Each year, Bella reminds herself that what they share is only for the summer.

Yet, as the prologue reveals, there have been seventeen summers together, and with that bit of information, there are a world of possibilities, both loving and potentially heartbreaking, that these two characters may face. I’m anxious to see where this story goes, clinging to every word Camoozle writes and waiting (im)patiently for another update.

Beyond Edward and Bella, readers will find strong, interesting, fun supporting characters. The relationships reflect canon, but they each have a unique, unpredictable edge. Every person in this story serves a purpose, and as the years pass, you’ll see them grow and react age-appropriately to the circumstances of their lives. That, I feel, is one of the most outstanding accomplishments of this story. Camoozle’s progression is carefully paced, and it will leave you craving more and more, despite her substantial chapters.

For the Summer is an absolute must read, so go now, and be sure to leave Camoozle some love. And if you want to fangirl about it, come find me!

What can I say about this fic that you don’t already get from the other lovely reviewers? camoozle is an awesome writer, and shows such depth in every character. We feel everything they feel, from their love-drunk highs to their pits-of-despair heartbreaks. She’s an amazing author and storyteller.

It’s hot:

“Alright, alright,” Edward scoots over until his leg is touching mine. He sticks his thumb between his lips and holds out his pinky. “Bella, I promise you, I will never, ever tell anyone about your ticklish feet.”

I hold Edward’s gaze for what seems like an eternity, his face very close to mine, before I do the same and hook my finger to his.

“Seal it,” I murmur.

Edward leans forward and my heart begins to race. He presses his lips to mine and I sigh against his soft, full mouth. I try to remember what Edward showed me last summer and what I’ve heard Leah and Emily talking about at the store. It’s all forgotten though as soon as Edward licks at my bottom lip with his tongue.

A hundred little explosions go off under my skin and I freeze. Oh crap, he wants to French kiss me. My brain scrambles but before I have time to panic, I feel it again, a soft pull of wet and warm across my lip. Something in my body forces my brain to shut up and my lips to open and then, Edward’s tongue is in my mouth. And he tastes like heaven, like rainbow sherbet, sweet and smooth and melting on my tongue.

and it’s also fucking hilarious:

Holy Days of our Lives! Emily’s pregnant? With Sam’s baby? I thought she was dating Jared. She’s going to be a senior in high school and here she is knocked up by her cousin’s boyfriend. So much for being a free spirit. She’ll be tied to another person now for the rest of her life.

“Be a man? A real man doesn’t stick his dick in his girlfriend’s cousin,” Leah says bitterly.

“I’m so sorry, we never meant for any of this to happen,” Emily sobs and Leah just laughs, a maniacal tremor from her lips.
“Bullshit! What, you tripped and fell on his dick, over and over and over again until he got you fucking pregnant? If you didn’t mean for it to happen, then it wouldn’t have.”

*sigh* I love it so much! This story is so much more than just summer fun. The anticipation of the impending angst is practically killing me, but I am definitely in. Check out For the Summer–you’ll be glad you did.

Official Description: Bella, compulsive sketcher of wolves, has not dreamed in years. Unexpectedly, she begins to dream again the night tragedy takes away her first and greatest love. ExB, sort of.

bsmog says: One of the things I love most about this fandom is that I’m reminded of a great big bookstore. Not a big box bookstore, one of those big, old downtown city bookstores that have everything you could ever want to read. Fic is kind of like that for me…you’ve got your non-fiction (canon), and then there’s all the fiction (non-canon/AU, etc.): history, westerns, humor, romance, mystery, suspense, foreign language, everything. You name it, someone’s probably written it and put it out there for the rest of us to enjoy. But you know that part of the bookstore where you find the rare manuscripts and the high literature? The truly phenomenal books that you just want to go stand next to and touch the spines and breathe the dust around them in the hopes that just a touch of the author’s brilliance will rub off on you? In my fandom bookstore, that room is where you’ll find Feisty Y. Beden’s Sleepers, Awake: Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme. In a glass case with special shiny lighting. And a security guard. Seriously, y’all. It’s that good. This story takes place partly in Bella’s waking world, where she is a Longfellow University grad-turned temp in Boston with a feisty (no pun intended) yet refreshingly supportive Rosalie for a best friend. When a plane crash and a funeral force her to overcome a VERY severe fear of flying, she heads back to Forks, and we meet her past: her family, her friends, and of course, her Edward (although I caution you, that last is not at all in the way that you think!). The other part of the story takes place in Bella’s dreams. Yes, boys and girls, hold on to your brains. Mindfuckery is afoot in its finest form. Dream Bella is on a quest to save what’s most important to her in all the world, and I promise you, you’ll be on the edge of your seat to see if she pulls it off; I know I am! I don’t want to give a single thing away about this story, because almost everything is integral to the plot, but here’s a small sample of the millions of things I love about this story.

  • I hate flying. I really do. I do it fairly frequently, and I know all the statistics and everything else, but I still hate it. So the great attention to detail that is paid to illustrating just how severe Bella’s phobia is grabbed me from the start. I felt like I was right there with her at the airport. I may have panicked a little myself!
  • Charlie, who I love so much I want to invite him to Christmas dinner, just so long as he brings donuts, is incredible. His and Bella’s relationship is simple on the surface, but really so complex and beautiful. Some of their scenes together are so lovely that they’ve brought me to tears. In the absence of her mother, who you will meet and likely want to stab with Bella’s pancake fork, they have developed a bond that transcends the traditional father-daughter relationship. Feisty illustrates their interactions, both in person and on the phone, with such care that you want to call Charlie after you read a chapter just to see how he is. One of my favorite lines in the whole story is one of Bella’s about Charlie in fact: “…he is an indelible mark on my skin, an invisible tattoo.“ (Sleepers, Awake, Chapter 19)
  • Waking Bella, though achingly ordinary despite her brilliance and talents, is quietly strong and brave and loyal behind her fragile exterior. Dream Bella takes all those traits and strips away the fragility. She’s majestic and heroic, even in her fear, and loyal beyond compare. At first I thought the two were meant to be opposites of each other, but as I’ve read (and re-read), the things I like most about Waking Bella are the parts of her that shine through the most in her dream world.
  • I don’t care what team you’re on or how deep-rooted your feelings about Jacob are, this Jacob is one you’ll fall in love with. (Once again, this isn’t what it seems; you’ll have to go read it to believe me though, I’m not giving this one away either.) More tears here, and as if Jacob isn’t enough, you’ll love Seth and even Leah. I know, you don’t believe me. Trust, people, there’s WAY more to this thing than meets the eye. These three have a little something to teach everyone about love, loyalty, and sacrifice. I challenge you not to love them all before it’s over.
  • Two words: Fruit stickers.

The bottom line is this: Sleepers, Awake is a beautiful story, but more importantly, it’s a beautiful story with an amazing amount of substance. It’s smart, genius even; it’s funny in the right moments, heartbreaking in many more, and mesmerizing in its originality, its grace, and its suspense. So get your tissues and your comfort food and get to reading, y’all. This is one wild ride you really don’t want to be missing.

Melissa228 says: Sleepers, Awake is a all-human fic that transports readers into a web of fantasy versus reality. In most cases, the line between what is real and what is not is clear, but in this story, the line is blurred and nothing is certain.

I only recently found this brilliant story after I had an evening out with ScarlettLetters. Miss Scarlett is my own personal Fictionator (sorry Madame Caren…) and I know something is really special when she tells me about it. She enthusiastically recounted the key points of the story all the while stopping to say, “Dude, Mel, you HAVE to read it.” So I did and I’ve never been more glad to start reading a fic than I was with this one.

The story begins and we are immediately wondering if what we are reading is a dream sequence, a hallucination or reality. When Bella is woken up by her phone ringing, we realize that she was in fact dreaming, but what followed after sets the stage for the rest of the story. The phone call that woke her? A friend calling to tell her: Edward Cullen is dead.

Thus ends just the first chapter.

Bella travels back to her hometown of Forks to attend the funeral and the mixture of grief, anxiety and her past proves to be more than overwhelming to her. She is flooded with memories, so much so that her exhausted body and mind frequently lull her into her dreamworld. Not only are her dreams out of the realm of anything explainable, but the fact that she is suddenly dreaming at all after not doing so for years, is just another one of many things you will be wondering about.

What transpires in the future twenty plus chapters is a un
foreseen whirlwind of dreams filled with wolves, past and present collisions and life-altering decisions. Are you confused yet? Good. You should be. In fact, you will be reading chapter after chapter of this brilliant story wondering….What the hell is this going ? If you are asking yourself that…then you are exactly where you should be. The story is so fully layered that as you contemplate it in it’s entirety, you unravel more and more of the mystery of it.

Aside from this completely unique and intoxicating story, the writing is absolutely exquisite. Words are strung together like poetry…every sentence…every paragraph is like a piece of music that plays the most beautiful symphony.

Don’t believe me? Here is just a small excerpt from a gchat conversation between ScarlettLetters and I.

me: okay…seriously..i’ve been trying to write the review/rec for Sleepers for Fictionators for like 3 hours
Leiah: oh yeah?
me: I have no idea what to fucking say or how to explain the mindfucking poetry…
Leiah: yeah
I totes understand
it is beautifully painful
creative
thought provoking
nerve-wracking
me: yessss
Leiah: unpredictable
you don’t even want to guess where it is going to go because you don’t want to ruin the journey
this fic is not about the destination
me: I think I will read the chapter and sleep on it…then try writing again in the morning..
Leiah: yeah, it’s a fic that only leads to more questions
you feel like you find out an answer and then there are 10 more questions
I’m terrified
I’m excited
I don’t know what I want to happen
I seriously want to have a meet up when this fucker is done
I will need to talk about it as I know it will wreck me like no other fic has
me: I’m so…….
fucked up over this story…like nothing else..
Leiah: I am in complete agreement
it is like nothing we have ever read
there will be imitations but they will pale in comparison
she’s an original and it’s ground breaking and it fucks with me all the time
I think about this fic every day
me: AND
when you read it….
it’s so fucked up…so..layered…
Leiah: my god
yes
there is a visceral feeling when I read this
I physically react
Exactly. That is exactly what this story is all about. Read it and drown in the possibilities of it all. If you don’t, you are truly missing out on one of the most smart and beautifully written fics out in the fandom today.

MF’er says: So, Melissa sends me an e-mail and asks if I’ve read this yet… and of course, I tell her no because I barely have time for anything… So she tells me that it’s one of her and Leiah’s favorite fics, probably the best she’s ever read… and of course, I listen. ;) (Yeah, I’ll forgive you for cheating on me and Fictionating with someone else, Mel…)

So earlier this week, I started and man, I think Fiesty probably thinks I’m a nutter because I’m pretty sure every review I left for her probably went something like this:

OMG I AM SO CONFUSED RIGHT NOW, WTF IS GOING ON?

or…

OMG YOU MADE ME CRY!!

Every time I tweeted my confusion and frustration, the girls said: JUST. KEEP. READING.

So I did…

And… HOLY HELL, I am so glad I kept with it because now, NOW… Jesus, now – there is so much hanging in the balance and I hate begging for updates, but I’m totally not opposed to offering bribery in order to get the next chapter like, as soon as possible…

When (see, I said WHEN, not IF) you go and check this fic out, give it a chance… open your mind, and DON’T STOP READING – Trust me. It’s worth it in the end… and then, send me an e-mail and tell me if you know what’s going on because I certainly haven’t figured it out yet, but I’d love to hear your theories. ;)

Kassiah says: I did not read this fic when it was on our list because I was working on our upcoming special. But now that I have seen what everyone else has to say about this, I feel like a tool. I wish I had read it, but if it makes any difference, I think Feisty Y. Beden is a fucking genius, and I love her, even if she usurped my position with Algie. Read this. please.
