mozzer0906 says: The one thing I’ve come to appreciate about hosting or being a judge for a contest is how it exposes me to pairings and authors I may have not otherwise read. Normally I don’t read many, well ANY, Jacob/Nessie pairing fics, but since this one came in for the When Love Was New contest, I had to read it. I was so pleasantly surprised at the way she handled the two glimpses in time between Renesmee and Jacob.

You are treated to a look at their post-Breaking Dawn relationship over two periods in time, the first being when Renesmee is young and Jacob is her constant companion. IndependanceIndividuality does a great job showing the youthful innocent love that she has for Jacob. You also see more of the same loving and protective Jacob as you did in Breaking Dawn. Jacob tells her that he is hers and she finds a constant in that knowledge, until she grows up.

The next look you have is of a Renesmee who is older and who realizes that this constant companion she has in Jacob she wants more from. She doubts that he is hers in the way she wants him to be, fearing that he only feels for her the love of a little girl and not the love of a young woman. IndependanceIndividuality does a great job showing the vulnerability of a young woman in Renesmee, how unsure she is about herself and Jacob’s feelings.

What I liked most about this one shot was the way in which Renesmee showed Jacob her feelings, using her gifts to open herself to him completely. I thought this was a very interesting guide because Renesmee’s power as she grows is something you never really thought about. It would likely be something a teenage girl uses very sparingly because showing someone else your thoughts would only come with great trust in the person you are giving your gift to. It was an endearing way to solidify the bond between the two moving from the early phase of their relationship to the next.
