Official Description: A teenage boy stumbles onto Edward’s eradication of Victoria, witnessing more than a human should know. Jane forces Edward to kill the boy, and in doing so, his desire for human blood is awakened and becomes nearly impossible to control on his own.

Bratty-Vamp says:

“Before either Ethan or I could realize it, my teeth sank deep into the side of his throat. He didn’t even scream. My jaw clenched tightly as his hot blood washed over my tongue. By now my venom was working its way through his body, but it could never serve its purpose. Ethan had to die. I relaxed my jaw slightly and pulled my face away from his. His body went limp in my arms and I dropped to my knees with him still in my grasp.

I felt sick as his blood gurgled in his throat as he attempted to catch his last breath. The life was seeping out of him too slowly. Ethan blinked and his eyes glistened as they met mine. Despite my intentions, he was suffering. I heard Jane giggle shamelessly.

“I’m so sorry,” I whispered to him, and with a quick motion, I turned his head sharply, snapping his spine. The sickening crack wasn’t a sound I would soon forget.

Pushing Ethan’s dead body off me and onto the ground, I stood up with my back to Jane and wiped my bloodstained lips with the back of my hand. I refused to look at her. I did what I had to. Now I just hoped that she would leave.

It was silent for a few moments, save for that snap that echoed relentlessly. The metallic taste of human blood saturated my mouth, securing my place in hell.”

And with that… right there in chapter one… I was completely hooked on Bloodlust.

Kalejay has taken a trip beyond chapter 25 of Eclipse… creating an angsty story that is wonderfully descriptive and darkly engaging. Edward makes a choice to save Bella’s life. But his choice just might be to her detriment in the end. Killing an innocent boy awakens a bloodlust that Edward struggles to control, and leaves Bella in a more precarious position than ever before. Edward might have saved her from the Volturi. But can he now save her from the unleashed monster inside himself?

The struggles of the people around Bella and Edward are not ignored. Kalejay spends time exploring the extremes that family goes through, when trying to support a loved one during a time of personal crisis. She takes her time writing, to make sure that each word helps paint a vivid picture in the reader’s mind. And some of the images stay with you, because of it.

Bloodlust is dark and gritty and beautifully intense. My heart hurts for the characters in the very best of ways. I am excited to see this story play out to the end.

RedVelvetHeaven says: Bloodlust for me is a much deeper exploration of Edward’s internal struggle against the monster inside himself and the struggle of those around him to help him keep control in order to have Bella in his life. Now you may think you have heard this one before, but I assure you, you have not. Kalejay has taken the story you thought you knew and intensified it to the Nth degree. She also switches POV’s which gives you the opportunity to truly delve into Edward and Bella’s minds as well as those around them. Jasper’s POV is definitely one of my favorites.

Edward’s struggle to overcome this newly intensified desire for human blood as well as dealing with the intense guilt of taking an innocent life, coupled with the fact that he has solemnly vowed to protect Bella and….never leave her again are all combined to create an angst filled, beautifully told story. Unlike so many parts of Twilight and New Moon where Edward just wants to leave, to go away from Bella to protect her….this is about his desire to stay….

“I knew that the only thing that would absolutely guarantee her safety would be my absence, but I made the mistake of leaving her once and I wouldn’t doom myself to repeat it. I had learned my lesson. Leaving her was not an option — not unless she cast me away. I had made that promise to her and I would never break it.

So, I had to stay strong… for her.”

Bloodlust is an undiscovered gem! Truly a beautifully written story rich in images and details. I sincerely hope you will give this story your well deserved time and attention.
