Rec Rewind

Time for another Rec Rewind! Sometimes, when we recommend a story that isn’t complete, we don’t have a clear picture of the entire fic or we might review way before the story’s done. There are also new readers coming into the fandom every day and even though our Fictionary is awesome, classic stories are often forgotten. Hopefully, this will drum up new readers for some of our favorite completed stories. This is a great way to reconnect with the story and remind you (and us) why we loved it in the first place!

You can see all of our Recommendations that we Rewind by Searching for The Review Tag or by clicking on this little icon in the upper left hand corner of any review we have revisited:

Our Rewinds this time has really brought us down memory lane. We are both BATgirls, and speculating and theorizing on the thread with the rest of the gang are some of our favorite times. We remember sitting on the edge of my seats, waiting to see what would happen in CoH, and what can we say about The Submissive and The Dominant? We still use “turpentine” in everyday conversation and just last week were giggling about meeting at the library.

Checking out the first recommendations we posted reminds the two of us how far our site has come and how happy being a part of this group has made us ♥

Our Latest Recommendation Rewinds are:

Breakfast at Tiffany’s by hmonster4 and profmom72

Creature of Habit by EZRocksAngel/Angel4Ever

The Dominant by tara sue me

The Submissive by tara sue me

Thank you very much to our amazing guest reviewers this week: KiyaRaven, legna, OCDindeed, and Robmatized Ded!

Official Description: An age old feud. Lives hang in the balance. All may be fair and love and war, but not when it comes to The Fates. An AUH tale with a sprinkling of mythology from the team that brought you Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Kassiah says: I am a BATgirl at heart, so when I got the alert about a new story from the team that brought us Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I knew it would be something I would love. Throw in a little Legna, and I feel like it is fate :) ProfMom describes it as “One quarter romance. One quarter suspense. One quarter satire. One quarter supernatural. Wholly original.”

The story starts out with a cryptic note and a brief introduction to the Fates before showing us a little bit of Tanya and how much her hand will be “pulling the strings.” We are then introduced to Edward, the silver medal Olympiad hell-bent on going for the gold, and Bella Swan, a state social worker. Finally we are introduced to the third string-puller and ladies, he is hot! I love the set up of this story. I love the players. I love Bella and Edward and their chemistry already. The authors said it best: “Sit back, buckle your seatbelts, and get ready for a ride unlike anything you’ve ever been on.” Indeed.

RedVelvetHeaven says: I came upon this story from the lovely Legna’s other half, ElleCC. It was a random rec, a random link tweeted at just the perfect moment in time for me to see. It was not directly tweeted to me…but I think somehow…someway, it was ;) I think it was fate that meant me to see that tweet. I had had a a crazy RL week and had not logged on to twitter for a few days, but the first post I read when I finally did log on was a link for ‘The Fates’. I clicked it and oh my god I’m so happy I did! Mythology is one of my all time favorite subjects to read about and having it infused into Twilight fanfiction just about had me squeeing before I read a single word! And oh lord what an awesome story unfolding for us it is. Edward, the hot, arrogant Olympic fencing silver medalist has a date with destiny…namely Bella Swan. Bella is a down to earth ‘good girl’ and state social worker. They meet and sparks fly…well, not really sparks, but something definitely flies…Bella’s feet, right out from under neath her. With all the players in place, those that ‘pull the strings’ are ready to make things happen. Cue…Aphrodite! Scorned by the ‘hags of fate’ that have messed with one of her ‘true love’ couples, she seeks revenge for herself and redemption for the son that was forever effected by the denied love. The true love that the fates severed with the string that broke the bond. Lending a hand to the Goddess of Love is the third string puller…Garrett! And he is all kindsa hot! But has an agenda of his own it seems. While the chemistry between Bella and Edward is already intense, I’m looking forward to more. But one has to wonder what happens when the ‘Gods’ are free to play in our modern world. With a regular posting schedule and some very amazing writers weaving this fun story I am fuckall excited to be joining the journey they are taking us on. I really can’t say enough about how awesome this story is! Give it a chance even if it is not your usual kind of story. You won’t be sorry!

I was a BATgirl, so I was excited to see that the fantastic collaboration of hmonster4 and profmom had started a new endeavor. Imagine my glee when I realized it was with a Greek mythology spin – which completely pwns me because a great many of my advanced electives in college were about Greek and Roman mythology. Two of my favorite worlds colliding seemed too good to be true, but these wonderful authors have delivered. I’m like a crack addict waiting for my next Fates hit – in fact I have the update taunting me in my box right now and I’m trying to hurry up and finish this review so I can read it. Why do I like it? I think they have taken the Greek myths of the Fates, Aphrodite, and Ares and fit them in well with the story line (I chose to use their Greek god names although Ares goes by Mars – the Roman god of war – in the fic). I thought using the Volturi triad as the fates was brilliant – I think it fits perfectly with canon because these men are ruthless and controlling. One of the things I have come to see as a signature of this collaboration is how deftly they weave together each character’s story arcs. It never seems to be contrived or cliché and that is what I enjoy most about it. I highly recommend this fic.

MF’er says: I’m just another BATgirl, DD lover… General H/T addict that is loving this fic, and words fail me after the wonderful things Kass, Red and Shannon have had to say. I will mention that I’m excited as hell that Legna has joined the dynamic duo and I can’t wait for more. :)
