Official Description: Bella is a music student who stumbles onto a mystery surrounding an old sonata. How will the mystery presented by a brilliant young composer change her life forever?
Q&A with PurdueLiz:
If you got more than one prompt – why did you choose the prompt you did?
I actually had 4 prompts to choose from and it really was a tough choice. I went back and forth several times before finally deciding on the one that I did and coming up with the angle I wanted to use for it. I also hadn’t really seen anything else like it, so that made it appealing to me. Not to say a similar premise hadn’t been used, just that I hadn’t seen one like it.Was this prompt out of your comfort zone as a writer? How so?
It wasn’t really out of my comfort zone, no. It definitely turned out a bit fluffier than my other stuff. I also chose to write it in 3rd person POV instead of 1st and I really enjoyed the change. It was really fun to take just a small phrase and turn it into a complete story. What was your favorite passage that you wrote in the fic?
In the anonymity and safety of the dark, Bella became braver than she would
have been had she been able to see Edward’s face clearly. “Edward,” she
said tentatively, “would you hold me while I fall asleep?”His heart soared to the heavens before coming back to him and he could almost
swear he could feel it pounding faintly in his chest. “I would love nothing
more, my Bella.”Did you know the person you were writing this for prior to receiving the prompt? If you did know them – did their likes and dislikes influence the plot choices you made? How so? If you did not know them did you just write the fic the way you wanted to or did you make any effort to get to know them?
I did not know who I was writing for. Hers was not a screename I recognized. I took as many clues as I could from her prompts and original sign-up post to figure out what she might like. I knew she liked AU stuff, and though she hadn’t indicated this particular prompt to be an AU story, it was actually when I thought of her love of the vampire stories that inspired me with the prompt. In the end, I just wrote a story that I would enjoy reading myself and hoped that she would like it. (It was very well received by her and I was thrilled!)How long did this take to write? Did you write it at the same time as your other fic(s) or did you put them on hold in order to finish this? Has this influenced your other fics at all?
It took me about 6 weeks to write. I procrastinated until about 10 days before the deadline, like I almost always do, assuming I would write a medium-ish one-shot of around 5-6000 words. The story took over and demanded to be told and it ended up being about 41000. Fortunately Ginny was very gracious and accommodating in allowing me extra time. I did put my other stuff on hold, though I was in the middle of writer’s block with MTAM anyway, so it didn’t really take away from it. So far it hasn’t influenced them, but it did make it a little harder to go back to writing in 1st person POV.Why did you choose the prompts you gave the author who wrote your fic? Were these ideas you had for yourself or just fics you wanted to see written?
Coming up with my own prompt suggestions was actually a bit difficult, it took me quite a bit to come up with ones that I thought were interesting. They were all completely new ideas, just something that I thought would be fun to see done. I was thrilled when my author chose one particular prompt, if she hadn’t, I was going to use it myself. She did choose that one and I adored where she took the story.Would you do it again?
I would absolutely do it again, I had so much fun with this and as I said before the story took over, it was very easy to write, it told itself. And writing it has actually inspired an original story idea for me, that I hope to eventually write into a novel.

Kassiah says: One of my favorite things about this whole Gift Exchange is that we, the readers, get so many amazing completed stories. Some of them are one shots. But some are multi-chaptered, full stories. Sonata no 3 in E is one of the most beautifully written and sweetest fics ever. And it’s all complete, ready for you to dive in.
I loved that this story had such great detail, and though the idea of Bella and Edward and how they meet is different, their characterizations are reminiscent of the canon characters that we love. I don’t want to spoil, but their first kiss is so, so sweet. All of their interactions are believable and make me want to know more about them. The ending is just…perfect.
I haven’t read anything by PurdueLiz before, but after reading this amazing story, I will definitely be checking out more from her.
mozzer0906 says: I had read PurdueLiz’s interview prior to reading Sonata, and once I started reading it, I thought the fact that this fic took over and the words poured out of her shined through her writing. This fic is inspired and you can see the magic that is the creativity pouring out of her in every paragraph.
It took a very interesting premise and worked it into an interesting AU. This was the last fic I read for this special and so I feel that I need to go back and re-read it in order to enjoy every word of it more, it is THAT good to read. Her Bella and Edward have that romance we all crave and the sweet touching moments that drew us into Twilight in the first place.
I agree with Kass when she says that she will be checking out PurdueLiz in the future, because after reading this fic I couldn’t agree more.
