Faking It by Spanglemaker9

Official Description: Half of Hollywood’s most famous couples are faking it. That’s how Bella Swan’s publicist convinces her to pretend to date troubled Hollywood bad boy Edward Cullen. And she’ll do anything for her band and her music.
Word Count: 152,804

Don’t miss the Outtakes!

In a fandom where we’re constantly asking ‘are they or aren’t they?’ and ‘PR relationship or true love?’, I can’t think of a more relevant storyline than one about two famous people being brought together by their publicists. No, this story isn’t about Ashley Greene and Joe Jonas and their epic romance. It’s also not about the very obvious PR relationship poor Robert and Kristen have been forced to fake over many, many months and several continents. I’m talking about Bella Swan, whose band, Eclipse, has just won “America’s Next Great Band” and Edward Cullen, the bad boy movie star who is now unemployable due to some reckless behavior.

I hate revealing storylines and plots in reviews, so I’ll just talk about how much fun this story is. I read it a long, long time ago, and remember anxiously waiting between updates and pestering people about how angsty they thought it was going to get, what they thought about Edward, how pretty Bella’s dress was, and of course, how insanely hot the sex was. Because the sex here is really, really hot. I mean, there’s arm-chewing in limos and Edward is delicious.

(Although his arm isn’t the one that’s getting chewed)

When Kassiah told me that “Faking It” hasn’t been reviewed on The Fictionators, I was shocked, because this story is a Twific classic. I’m not even sure why I’m writing this right now, because everyone has read it, right? If you haven’t, you really should. The plot is interesting and fun. Spanglemaker9 has developed characters who you’ll root for, and when she describes pretty things, it’s the best! You will absolutely love reading about Bella getting ready for events. No one writes pretty dresses, complex characters, and UST quite like Spanglemaker9. I have no doubt that anyone who reads this story will end up falling in love with her words, and one of the hottest Edwards in Twific.

I was one of those people that littlesecret mentioned that hadn’t read this story until this week. And I fell in love (thanks to cosmogirl7481 and marvar29 for pimping it to me).

spanglemaker9 managed to create two great characters who find themselves stuck in an impossible position. And then they both find the one thing neither of them expected… each other.

While we’ve seen our Edward as an actor a few times in fic, it’s not common that we see Bella as a famous person too. In this case, she’s the face of her band Eclipse, and she’s the good girl to our bad boy… Edward. Edward is in need of a reputation makeover, while miss Bella is trying to get her band in the spotlight.

These two start off their shaky ‘fake’ relationship with a very public date, that turns into something neither expected:

“Hey, Bella,” I murmured, scooting closer to her with a smile, “See that guy at that table over there? Don’t look!” I motioned nearly imperceptibly with my chin. She nodded. “He’s media. Spying on us. I think we should give him a little something to report, don’t you?”
Her eyes widened in alarm. Christ, was being touched by me really such an unpleasant prospect to her? “Relax, it’s just for show. You’re safe.”

And before she could flip out or protest, I angled my body across hers and buried my face in the crook of her neck.

“See? No big deal,” I whispered into her neck. She just about leapt out of her skin.

“You’re tickling me!” she hissed.

“Hold still!”

“But it tickles when you talk!” she was squirming underneath me and trying to stifle a giggle.

“Quit wiggling! Okay, I won’t talk. I’ll just nuzzle.”

She started to squeal, but I slid my right hand up to the base of her neck and angled her head to the side, giving me better access to her neck. I trailed my lips along the length of her neck, just barely touching her. I meant to just goof around, give the guy a show and maybe get a rise out of Bella at the same time. But now that I was here, with my nose buried in her hair, her floral, slightly spicy scent was making me lightheaded. And her hair, what was that scent?

Strawberries. It was such a simple girlish smell. I was used to women smelling like a complex mix of very expensive grooming products. Her silly strawberry shampoo was killing me. And there was this feeling when I touched her like this, like electricity, I could feel it sing along my fingers and down my spine. It was crazy, and intoxicating, and I didn’t want to stop.

That made me a bit flaily… as did several other parts of this story. What follows their arrangement is sweet and adorable and just what I look for when I’m trying to find a good story. I highly recommend checking it out, and it’s complete so you can dig in and consume it all at once!

You’re missing out if you haven’t already read this story!

Oh, Faking It… this is a fic I really miss; it’s an oldie, but a goody. It’s been almost a year now since it ended, but it’s still my favorite Edward as a famous actor fic. In fact, it’s pretty much the only one, as far as I’m concerned because all others pale by comparison. It does switch POVs a little more than I’d normally enjoy, but it doesn’t necessarily detract from the fic.

Why do I like it? Well, for starters, it’s well-written and unique in that Bella is an adult in a famous band. The whole premise is that Edward is kind of a douche who needs an image makeover, and Bella’s a good girl with a good reputation – her agent talks her into fake dating Edward as a way to a] make him seem less of a jackass and b] get more publicity for the band.

“My law school friend, Laurent, happens to be publicist to Edward Cullen. And yesterday, after this tidbit hit the internet, I received a phone call from him. We had lunch, and he has made us a very intriguing proposition.” Aro stopped and leaned back in his chair, flexing his fingertips together, fixing me with his steady, steel blue gaze. “You and Edward Cullen. An arrangement.”

“WHAT?” I shot out of my seat.

Aro quickly held up a hand to calm me. “Please, Bella, let’s just discuss the whole thing in detail before you dismiss it out of hand.”

“You want her to whore herself out to Edward Cullen?” Emmett roared behind me, “I don’t think there’s anything to discuss!”

“No, no, no,” Aro’s patient demeanor never faltered. “There would be no actual intimacy between them. He would never lay a finger on her, if she so chose. Will you at least listen to the situation before you refuse?”

I looked back at the others. Emmett and Jasper looked tense, but controlled. Rose looked calm, willing to listen. I trusted Rose and her instincts above anything else. If Rose wanted to listen, then I would listen.

I took a deep steadying breath and raked my hands through my hair to push it off my face. I slowly lowered myself back into my chair.

“Explain it to me. All of it.”

And so it begins.

If you’re one of the few people in the fandom who hasn’t read this fic, I recommend giving it a try. It’s an interesting look at celebrity and definitely makes you consider what’s real and what’s not in Hollywood.

I don’t know what I can add besides I love this story, and I know you will, too. It’s classic and Spanglemaker is one of the most talented writers out there. It’s one of my favorites, and I hope you’ll read it :)

The Wedding Party by Spanglemaker

Official Description: The perfect person appears at the worst possible moment, and one unforgettable encounter changes everything. AH

So I may have broken a golden rule of WussPerv by reading this story…. Bella is with James, as in living with James, “Jay”, but leaves him behind in their apartment whilst she goes off to be Chief Bridesmaid to her bestiest bestie – Alice. Leaving him behind, happily escaping from her current existence is the first sign that maybe my little wussperv heart will be ok.. .

The premise is thus. Bella and Edward meet for the first time over the weekend of their best friends wedding. There is INSTANT attraction and chemistry. I am talking sizzle to your toes, suddenly you have a sway to your hips type of chemistry. Slight problem? As I mention above. Bella is living, quite unhappily, with Jay. So Bella and Edward begin a dance, circling around one-another. One minute they are both fighting what they feel, the next? They are suddenly closer than they both intended without quite knowing how they got there. Over the extended weekend leading up to the wedding, they repeat this dance – spinning closer to one another until one of them regains their head (minds out the gutter pls folks) and they put the appropriate distance back between themselves. The trouble is – each time they get closer? They get emotionally closer too.

“She met my eyes and smiled in return. I felt my stomach flip in a wholly unfamiliar way and my chest thrummed with some emotion in between elation and sadness. Bella’s smile faded, and I realized mine had as well. And still we sat looking at each other. The impulse was almost overwhelming. Reach out…touch her; her face, her hand, just make contact. But that was impossible, and the same thought seemed to occur to Bella at that moment, because she cut her eyes away to the street again and inhaled sharply through her nose. I clenched my hands into fists underneath the table.”

See?!!
That is why this story is so damn good. Its not just about the nipple hardening, ball tightening, tummy clenching, sexy yumminess of wanting what you can’t have. Of being tempted by a hot-to-trot piece of arse in a hotel that you could spend all weekend just devouring. No. Its about the emotional risk we all take. Of realising that the one you are with, is not the one you should be with. Or realising you have met the girl of your dreams, but she lives far away with another man……

So yes the chemistry is to die for. The lemony scenes are scrummy-ummy. But its the emotional turmoil they go through that makes it all the more potent & intense. Edward doesn’t want to be “that bloke” – the one who goes for the attached bird, he battles with this repeatedly – until something snaps and his control goes. And Bella really doesn’t want to be a cheating harlot, having fun away from her depressed and depressing, clingy partner.. [OMFG I just said the emotional turmoil is what makes this story. Ssssssh - please don't tell Bri, Nina or Kim - they might disown me....]

But seriously. It is those characterisations that make this story worth reading. Both Edward’s and Bella’s turmoil is completely believable. Bella, for example, doesn’t immediately lay on her back with her legs open for Edward… Every interaction between them is agonised over.

But dear fellow WussPerv’s – I must warn you. Where the story is currently residing? The wedding party is over. Here comes the hangover. Its not going to be pretty. I am PRAYING for a HEA – but it is not clear if we will get one. But please do read. You are missing out if you don’t.

It’s not very often that I come across a fic that I just can’t stop reading, but The Wedding Party is without a fucking doubt one of those stories. It didn’t matter that I had laundry to do and dinner to cook, I HAD to read this story and nothing was going to stand in my way.

This was my first dive into the world of spanglemaker9 and I can tell you with absolute certainty it will not be the last. There is only one way to describe her words, beautiful. The imagery and characterization that she brings to the table took me entirely into the story and made me feel like I actually knew her characters and could feel what they were feeling. Let’s be honest who wouldn’t want to feel something like this?

I swear I couldn’t look away for what felt like several endless seconds. Cheekbones and tousled hair and intense eyes and unbelievable lips. The man made my head spin a little bit just from looking at him. He was beautiful and tall and…oh, my God, he was still looking at me like I was a crazy woman because I was standing there with my mouth open and nearly drooling on myself.

Or this…

We were at her door now and she backed away, her eyes drooping slightly, her hair a glorious tumble down over her bare arms where they peeked out of her blouse. I knew what I was about to do was wrong, and crossing the line, but I did it anyway. Hell, she was so drunk that she might not even remember this conversation tomorrow. I took a step forward and she jolted in surprise. She tried to back up but she was against the wall. I reached a hand up to cup her chin, dragging my thumb gently over her bottom lip. Her eyes went wide and her breathing stalled.

“Don’t you think,” I said softly, smiling, “That if you’re going to cheat on your boyfriend, it should be with me?”

Guh. I don’t even have words after that.

So I’ll just say this, if you haven’t already read this fic, don’t waste any more time. The laundry can wait.

I got a late start on The Wedding Party, but once I began reading, this was a story I couldn’t stop. To put it simply, spanglemaker9 has created one of those indulgent, delightful, very fun to read Edward and Bella romances we all crave. Let’s be honest, friends – no matter where our tastes lie these days, 99.9% of us sought out Twilight fan fiction in the first place because we wanted MORE Edward and Bella, MORE romance, MORE fluff…oh, and MORE sexual tension (not to mention the actual sex)! Trust me here, this story delivers!

Of course, what fun would a romance be if there weren’t some challenges and stumbling blocks along the way? Well, there’s a big one in this story, and it goes by the name of Jay.

The night before leaving Seattle to go to Chicago for her best friend Alice’s wedding, Bella has an epiphany about her relationship. She knows it’s not where she wants to be any longer and that she’s fallen out of love, but there is no time to deal with that. Conversely, there are a handful of other factors that make Bella feel obligated to her longterm boyfriend, and she’s extremely torn about what to do. A long weekend away as the Maid of Honor seems to be just what she needs to clear her head.

However, Bella is unable to get her mind off her doomed relationship when she meets the Best Man (Edward, of course) and a volcano of undeniable chemistry erupts.

The POV in this story shifts back and forth between Edward and Bella seamlessly, building the characterizations of these two as well as the supporting cast, and with it comes a clear picture of the escalating attraction they feel. That doesn’t mean things are simple, though. While Bella and Edward can’t seem to stay away from one another, Bella struggles with her obligation toward Jay, and Edward wrestles with his own sense of morality regarding her current status. Will they or won’t they? Will they or won’t they? No matter what, the biggest question remains – even if relationship circumstances were different, Bella is in Seattle and Edward is in New York, so what does that mean for them?

I won’t spoil any more of the story for you, but I promise that you too will find yourself hooked on Edward’s charm and empathizing for Bella’s inner turmoil, especially if you have ever been in a dead end relationship that you didn’t know how to get out of. The Wedding Party is a great WiP, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

I love Spanglemaker (swoonward pwns me), and I *love* this fic. I am not gonna lie, though, the thought of this not having an HEA makes me literally sick. I never even considered that possibility until I read pippapear’s review. OMG. I will die.

This story is great–it’s got one of my favorite Edwards and I don’t even hate Bella *lol* It has one of the hottest lemons I’ve ever read. The characters have amazing depth and I am on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what is going to happen next. I love how much spanglemaker is able to make us feel with just a few short paragraphs.

“Oh, God…” the words tumbled from my lips as I arched away from the wall, willing him to touch me harder. He did, making a low sound in the back of his throat that vibrated all through my body as he kissed his way up my throat to my mouth. This time I met his mouth first, pushing my tongue in hard against his. He slipped his leg forward between my knees until his thigh was pressing against my center. It drove me mad, his soft amazing mouth and tongue assaulting mine, his thigh pressing against me, his hands on my breasts…my body was on fire and I thought he might be able to make me come just like this.

His hand slid down over my hip, pulling on my thigh, raising my leg, hooking it over his hip. Jesus, yes…With the shift in position, I could feel how hard he was, and it was pressed directly against me, right where I was desperate for it. He reached underneath me, cupping my bottom, raising me up, helping me ride against him.

Without warning, he hiked my other leg up. I gasped at my loss of balance, gripping his shoulders with both hands. But within seconds I felt secure, held up by his hands and the wall at my back. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders as he settled in against me. I could feel the whole hard length of him pressed against my panties as my ruined dress rode up to my hips. He rocked his hips into mine and I groaned through my teeth against his lips. I felt one of my shoes slip off my foot, and I kicked the other one away before hooking my calves more securely around him.

I didn’t want to think about my real life right now, and for the most part, I didn’t. But I couldn’t help but realize that no sexual experience I’d had in my life before compared to what was happening with Edward right now, and we still had most of our clothes on. It hadn’t been like this with the few men I’d dated in college, and certainly never with…Don’t even think his name. Not here, not now, with Edward touching me, pinning me to the wall, and making me feel…

*thud* Read this story. You won’t be sorry.
