What We're Reading

Katinki: NEW FIC ALERT! :D i’m going ahead and doing a little dance over this. some months ago i personally talked to the author about this story and she let me take a peek at her outline. this has the potential to be… awesome. there’s so little mystery / crime fic in our fandom, so special agent edward masen has me super excited. the fic is called Carpe Aestatem and it’s by vysed. go ahead and jump on this one early. it’ll be lots of fun as a WIP.

Caren: I also have a NEW FIC ALERT, lol! Last night I caught this being tweeted and was hooked halfway through Chapter one! It’s called My Sweet Variable by LifeintheSnow.

Songster: OMG yes, I love LifeintheSnow’s stuff. Branching Inward may be my favorite fic. It certainly has one of the hottest kisses I’ve ever read… yeah, a kiss, the kind that causes whole body clenches. So her starting a new fic with such an interesting premise. ::fist pump::

Kassiah: Branching Inward is one of my favorite stories. My rob…when he said, “Maybe I’m overconfident,” I’m pretty sure I died.

LJSummers: : Cracked! by nosleep3 updated. This is a perfect fic for folks that keep thinking some issues could have been handled more comprehensively in The Saga. With amusing or ironic twists, this IS Twilight…if Bella’s characterization had been drawn rather differently. If you’re not reading this and you like it AU – you should click the story link right now. Another must-read for AU people is Antiques Roadshow by aerobee82. Edward WANTS Bella forever. Imagine! Additionally, Shawnief updated The Ethnographer…Jacob/Bella fans, this is for YOU! (Clearly, I’ve finished A Clash of Kings by GRRM and have had more moments for fic!) [Suitable interlude music here.] ALSO, Twelve Months by SassyK updated. We are now in October and Edward is wooing Isabella… He is so sweet! Swoon! A Forest Fire, by Bedelia, is also updating. This Jasper/Bella story is quite unique. I encourage folks that want a stable, moving-forward Bella to read this story.

Katinki: Also, on a non-fic note, I just read Angelfall by Susan Ee. It’s a fantastic little book. It has a few issues, but overall highly entertaining and fairly unique in a pretty populated arena. I definitely recommend it. Here’s my review.

Songster: @katinki Holy Moley, the update from Prism by Anna Faze was really, really amazeballs and I think this Charlie is one of the best I’ve read. My inbox was really happy today. Fall to Ruin One Day by sleepyvalentina was a little scary but I have faith. ;)

LJSummers: New Fic Alert! Well, a few days old, anyway. It’s called Wicked by Blood by Eila. An AU Edward who was changed in Dublin in 1869 is in 2010 as we are going into the story. Some really great turns of phrase and an intriguing premise. I urge you to check this one out.

MsKathy: Oooh. I just peeked at My Sweet Variable — looks fascinating! I put it on alert. Katinki, Carpe Aestatem looks interesting, too. I was wondering, do you know if she’s pre-written at all? I noticed she has another WIP and that always makes me nervous.

String Theory ended this week, and I am so sad to see it go. Loved those two, even if I’m behind on reading and reviewing… now I may wait a few more days to savor and let them linger in my head for a bit before closing their book.

Roughing the Passer updated, too (full disclosure – I am her beta), and mmmm, this story just gets better and better. This is (by far!) my favorite chapter of the Riley / Jasper goodness.

Katinki: @songster I KNOW! I just read the Prism update! LOVED. :D I’m dying to see where it’s going from here. I love her writing so much.

@MsK I’m not sure if Carpe Aestatem all pre-written but she just (as in like 5 minutes ago) posted chapter 4. Like 4 chapters in less than a week. I know she’s had the outline for a while. I’m not worried about her not finishing it. I feel really good about that. But dude. It’s a MURDER mystery. Sigh.

Oh and since we’re on a new fic binge this week… BookishQua is posting a new AH that looks rather promising. It’s called Unbecoming. The first chapter is f*cking awesome and delightfully angsty :D . She’s planning to update weekly and I don’t doubt she’ll finish it. I mean, she did finish her monster AU, Cullenary Coupling. Oh and our own lovely LJ is beta’ing :D

LJSummers: @katinki I am, and I will tell you I had all KINDS of stuff to say in GDocs “comments” feature to Books. She’s got way more than twenty chapters written in advance of a hard, angsty story. If gasping and crying are your things, this is your fic.

MJinAspen: I really can’t wait to get started on Prism. I love AnnaFaze :) Her one-shot Going Under is one of the best o/s I’ve ever read–so lush and rich and such a triumph. Also looking at Détruit by Somah this weekend; I know it’s older, but I’ve never gotten to it until now. And now that String Theory is complete, I’ll be diving into that as well!

MsKathy: @katinki: Thanks for the info. :)

Songster: Don’t anybody pass out or anything, but I’m reading something that is a little angsty. I totally surprised myself and didn’t run away. It’s also very hot with a very interesting twist on canon E’s mind-reading. It’s paranormal but no vamps. Stolen Secrets and Shattered Dreams by FoxxyJ. Oh and did I mention the hotness, umm, yeah, sizzling.

Kassiah: Omg MsK, I met stephk this weekend at ALA and nom’d all over her for you! We wish that you had been with us.

Ya’ll know I’ve been on a LyricalKris binge, and this week I read her first fic, Fate’s Recipe. It’s fantasy and has guilds, battles, a giant, and lots of cool stuff in it! I am really glad I read it.

I also read the Exposed update by kdc2239 and hello evil cliffie! I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen. Or maybe I can–I’m scared! Also, Turning Tables is totally pwning me, as well as Under These Lights. I am pretty sure I mentioned UTL a couple of weeks ago, and I still love it. I don’t understand why everyone isn’t reading it! Of course, I’m thoroughly enjoying Going Under, and I’m just really really happy that I got to pre-read–the anticipation would have killed me lol

Thanks to everyone who gives us support, sends in their recs, and just generally makes our lives in the fandom more entertaining. We couldn’t do this without all of you.
See you next week!!
